I invite you to join me aswe spend two weeks exploring this exceptionalcity, embracing Viennese culture and movingthrough its history by examining some of theworld’s most well-known artworks first hand. Considered an artistic and intellectual hub atthe turn of the 20th century, Vienna has been acrossroads of many cultures for thousands ofyears. This richly vibrant city thrives oncoffeehouse culture and is jam packed withmuseums devoted to art ranging from the firstsigns of civilization to the present day, making itan ideal place for our Art Appreciation class. An extraordinary number of masterpieces callVienna home, as did Gustav Klimt and EgonSchiele, and the largest collections of their workstill reside here. We will visit museums, palaces, churches, memorials, galleries, and publicspaces where we’ll explore art’s remarkablecapacity to educate, persuade, commemorate, reinforce, and communicate in society. You’ll experience a thriving street art scene, towering Gothic cathedrals, historic operahouses and concert halls, impressive ArtNouveau architecture, and an excellent publictransportation system connecting it all.Straddling the Danube River, the city issurrounded by lush vineyards and dotted withgorgeous parks and gardens, and it nestles upto the Vienna Woods, a UNESCO BiosphereReserve, making it one of the greenest cities inthe world. When we’re there, it’s easy to see whyit’s consistently recognized as one of the world’sbest places to live. I love this beautiful city, and I’m passionateabout sharing it with you.
