Message The Original Woodnorth School Photo Courtesy of Manitoba ArchivesApril 2025 The school closed in 1968 and the district wasdissolved in 1970. A commemorativemonument was erected in 1995 beside theformer school building, which was stripped ofits brick veneer in 1990.The Woodnorth School District wasestablished formally in April 1910, with aone-room frame schoolhouse constructedin Woodnorth. In May 1918, it becameWoodnorth Consolidated School No.1533 when it consolidated with DaybreakSchool No. 376 and Retloc School No.1908.As student enrollment rose, the originalclassroom was supplemented by twomore so, by the time the school was in itsheyday, it comprised three classrooms. Rockets Launch Pad On February 15th, Reston Minor Ball was proud to open the Rockets Launch Pad in thecurling ice at the Reston RecPlex. The Launch Pad is an indoor baseball training facilityequipped with a batting cage, pitching tunnel, as well as a dry pad area to train on. This willallow our Minor Ball players to get a head start and prepare for the upcoming baseballseason. Once the baseball season begins, the indoor batting cage will move to the balldiamonds and give Reston Minor Ball a second batting cage in the Southwest corner of thediamonds.The Rockets Launch Pad is offering seasonalmemberships from February 15th to May 15th.Individual memberships are available for $75 andfamily memberships for $125. Thursday, May 1 is the deadline to sponsor a 2025 Reston & Area Veteran MemorialBanner. To participate, please submit a photo, short biography, sponsor form, and $250.There’s been strong interest again this year, and we look forward to honouring new veteransin the Memorial Parks of Reston and Pipestone. Banners will now hang annually from July 1to Remembrance Day, with the Reston banners proudly displayed in Memorial Park.Preparations for pole installation will begin this spring, in consultation with the MemorialPark Committee. This venue change adds costs, and donations to help are welcome — taxreceipts available. Veteran Banner Sponsorship Deadline - May 1 2025Stick It To Cancer Fundraiser Raises Over $4,000.00 Sunrise Credit Union Limited, Reston Branch, hosted its 9th Annual Stick it to Cancerfundraiser on March 18th at the Reston Rec Plex, bringing the community together insupport of cancer research and care. Thanks to the generous support of attendees, donors,volunteers, and those who contributed raffle items, the event raised over $4,000 for theCanadian Cancer Society. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make thisevent a success,” said organizers. “It’s heartwarming to see our community come together forsuch an important cause.” A special thank-you goes out to the RMHS Renegades andWestman Fusion for their enthusiastic participation, helping make the event possible andenjoyable for all.

Countdown to Pipestone Homecoming 2025 Less than 100 days to Pipestone Homecoming 2025! Pre sales for supper and social tickets arenow available. Tickets for the 50/50 are selling well, only 3000 tickets at $10 available for a prizeof $15,000 so be sure to get your name on one. Draw will be made at the social Saturday, July 12at 11 pm. You don’t have to be present to win. Weekend registration will take place startingFriday afternoon until Saturday at 3pm, there is no registration fee but get your name in on themany wonderful raffle prizes that will be drawn following Saturday supper. Friday the fun beginswith the BBQ supper & live entertainment uptown by Travis Barre. Finish off the evening withfireworks on the Rec Grounds.Food will also be available all weekend at the canteen on the Rec Grounds where the annualPipestone Fun Days Slow Pitch tournament will be taking place as well. Saturday morning learna little about Pipestone pioneers with a Cemetery Walk or check out the memorabilia at theDrop In. Then get your exercise walking around town to discover the history of the lots. A minischool reunion will be held Saturday afternoon and then a delicious roast beef supper followedby the social, music by Armadillo. Tickets are sold separately for the supper and social. Sunday morning there will be a pancake breakfast and parade at noon. After the parade join usfor the opening of the new park followed by the celebration of the Pipestone Lions Club 45thanniversary. There are many things planned for the little ones as well, a bouncy castle andPAREC activities will be onsite Saturday and Sunday as well. More detailed weekend itineraryto come. We look forward to you not only ‘coming home’ but participating in the activitiesplanned, get your team ready for slow pitch , your float ready for the parade, any contributionfor the memorabilia displays or just getting your dancing shoes on! To help with fundraising ifyou wish to make a donation with a prize for the raffle table that would be appreciated. OR ifyou just want to help by taking a shift at the raffle table or in the Drop In greeting visitors thatwould be great as well.
