Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal living word of God 1 Peter 1 23 APRIL 2017 IN THIS ISSUE From A Tiny Seed by Ms Barbara Whitlock A farmer went out to plant his seed As he scattered it across his field some seed fell on a footpath where it was stepped on and the birds ate it Other seed fell among rocks It began to grow but the plant soon wilted and died for lack of moisture Other seed fell among thorns that grew up with it and choked out the tender plants Still other seed fell on fertile soil This seed grew and produced a crop that was a hundred times as much as had been planted This is the meaning of the parable The seed is God s word Luke 8 5 8 11 The first time I heard this parable was at a performance of the musical Godspell There wasn t anything special about their rendition they kept true to the story However it impacted me in this way If we don t have hearts that are teachable the seed that is planted in each one of us could fall victim to the rock the weeds and thorns God s Word is available to all of us Thanks to the media the gospel can be heard or read through numerous sites So knowing this what keeps a person from responding to God s calling The answer to that is what this scripture passage is all about I once read that this parable in Luke depicts different stages of a Christian The seed that fell on rocky ground represents a convenient Christian only believing and living the Word when it doesn t interfere with their life When a convenient Christian is tested they fall away The seed that fell among thorns represents the immature Christian Worry money and pleasures have stunted their growth in God s grace The seed that fell among the path is the almost Christian they hear the truth but a hard heart keeps them from receiving it And finally the seed that fell on good soil represents the growing Christian They are the ones that receive the word and don t depart from it when trouble comes As a matter of fact the more suffering there is the tighter they cling to His Word One thing we pray for at Calvary Academy is for each one of our students to have teachable spirits With a teachable heart there is nothing they can t do in Christ With a hardened heart they can t see that every aspect of their education is part of the path God has them on Their focus can become more on what they think is not fair instead of facing their struggles in God s grace knowing He is using them to grow them up in their faith The Word of God never grows old only richer From a tiny seed grows a crop of character Let our hearts and our children s hearts remain teachable so the seed of truth can establish deep roots Student Art Show Our student s art work was on display during this year s Annual Art Show Continued page 2 The Wiz Jr th The 8 Grade class is getting ready to Ease On Down the Road in this production of The Wiz Continued pg 4
