Don t let anyone look down on you because you are young but set an example for the believers in speech in conduct in love in faith and in purity 1Timothy 4 12 APRIL MAY 2018 IN THIS ISSUE Congratulations Class of 2018 Don t let anyone look down on you because you are young but set an example for the believers in speech in conduct in love in faith and in purity 1Timothy 4 12 As I walk the empty halls of Calvary Academy reflecting on God s faithfulness throughout this past school year I am reminded of the events that took place this last month of school From the 8th grade musical to Olympic Day to the 8th grade chapel and then graduation one theme that runs thru each of these happenings is the student s determination to finish strong And not just strong but we encouraged our student to finish what they started with the same enthusiasm and energy as they began That challenge was a lesson in itself The teachers at Calvary did an excellent job creating and exploring different ways to challenge and motivate the students with different projects and learning concepts The students got involved and participated in different events at the school Parents supported their children and cheered them on every step of the way So as the month of May arrived our students didn t sit back and coast through They persevered and finished strong If we are obedient to God s will for our lives and daily strive to walk in holiness we will finish well in His eyes And that is what is most important in this life to please God We remind our students daily that God has a purpose and plan for their lives and if they strive to please Him and live according to His Word nothing will be impossible God has given us many examples in the Bible of people who have finished strong Joseph David and Moses were just a few The best finishers such as Jesus and Paul were productive to the end They knew their purpose and stayed true to it May each of us in whatever God has for us to do stay true to Him never get tired in doing what is good and finish strong For God s blessing will surely be upon us A Remarkable Performance The 6th 8th Grade Drama Club did an amazing job during their performance of Haphazardly Ever After The Musical Continued page 2 8th Grade Stories We celebrate our graduating class of 2018 with a tribute to them and a testimony of their time at Calvary Academy Continued pg 3

APRIL MAY 2018 Issue 16 2 Nothing Haphazardly About the Spring Musical by Ms Barbara Whitlock The 6th 8th Grade Drama Club students performed their hearts out during the Spring Musical on April 27th The name of the musical was Haphazardly Ever After a comedy about a king and a queen who decide to create a do it yourself fairy tale and chaos ensues Nothing goes as planned as musical comical and royal mayhem develops Despite the king and queen s DIY failure the princes and princesses were changed for the better Performing in front of an audience close to 300 people the Calvary Drama Club has the wonderful opportunity of using Spirit of God Fellowship s facility which is equipped with a state of the art lighting system a fully dressed stage and a collection of numerous costumes and props We are also blessed by Restoration Ministries Thrift Store with the use of furniture costumes and any other props that may be needed for the play From the moment the overture played to the last note was sung the audience enjoyed a remarkable performance by the students who put in much time and energy into making sure this production was the best it could be When the evening was over parents and family members were blessed by the talents of these students Among the cast of 23 students seventeen of them were 8th graders I would like to acknowledge them and thank them for their faithfulness to the play and for being such a joy to work with These students are Kayla Booker Chaylan Palmer Camille Williams Olympic Day Fun Friday May 25th Calvary Academy held its annual Olympic Day Olympic day is a school wide event filled with fun games and food Teams of students across all grades compete in a variety of games from relay races to water balloon tosses Snacks candy pop and pizza fuel the participants Olympic day is a tremendous day of fun games and fellowship Parents and alumni join together to work games run concessions and assist team leaders Older students become big brothers or sisters to younger grade students while interacting in the day s activities Every year Olympic day is a student and staff highlight the culmination of a successful school year This year 8th Grader Logan Driver beautifully sang the National Anthem and Mrs Krediet and Mrs Lindquist were chosen to be torch runners for the opening ceremony Mrs Lindquist will be retiring after 35 years of teaching at Calvary Academy Thank you for all you have done for Calvary Academy The day culminates with a tug of war contest between teams followed by a tug ofwar between the two eighth grade homerooms The top scoring teams were announced at the end of the day A special thank you to all the parents grandparents and alumni who came out to help with this wonderful event We could not have done this without you Sydnie Clark James Cox Nyah Moustakas Logan Driver Jalen Kent Michelle Johnson Kyle Scott Jordan Walker Erin Wortham Skylar Hamilton Charlie Brown Kennedy Pennington Trinity Harper and Danneli Campbell Thank you for all your hard work You will be missed

APRIL MAY 2018 Issue 16 10 Blessed by the Best Calvary Band Concert Calvary Academy held its final chapel for the school year on Friday May 18th The chapel was dedicated to the graduating eighth graders whose moto was Blessed by the Best The chapel included each grade providing a tribute or piece of advice for the graduates On Tuesday May 15th Calvary Band students took the stage for their last Band Concert of the year Led by Band Director Mrs Susan Russell the students performed some wonderful pieces including a jazz rendition of Michael Jackson s Thriller Calvary currently has four bands 5th Grade Band 6th Grade Band Junior High Band and Mrs Russell s latest addition the Calvary Jazz Band Academic scholars were named for every subject including the arts and P E Each scholar was awarded an academic medal to wear at graduation Before the evening was over eighth grader Danneli Campbell was awarded the Director s award for outstanding eighth grade band member Congratulations Chapel ended with a beautiful time of prayer with the 8th grade parents and relatives coming to the front and gathering around the graduates to pray a blessing over them We are so very proud of our 8th Grade Students and know they will go on to accomplish many great things Upcoming Events JUNE JULY AUGUST June 15th Last day to place school supply order through EPI Go to www educationalproducats com shoppacks Enter school ID CAL188 to complete your order July 1st Book Fees Due August 1st Registration Fee Increases First Tuition Payment Due July 23rd July 26th 1st through 4th Grade Soccer and Basketball Camps July 23rd July 27th 5th through 9th Co Ed Basketball Camp August 23rd 24th Soccer Tryouts 1 30 3 30 p m Volleyball Tryouts 5th Grade 4 00 5 30 p m 6th 7th 8th 1 30 3 30 p m August 22nd First Day of School Students entering Kindergarten 2nd and 6th grade must have all necessary medical dental forms completed by the first day of school which is Wednesday August 22nd
