This edition is all aboutsharing things - passions, knowledge, experience, joys, and so much more. It’s alsorewarding to sharehouseplants…fun, too! Notmuch goes into sharing yourfavorite plant with yourneighbor, but when you decideto make a bigger hobby or jobout of sharing houseplants, itcan get a little confusing andtedious. But I’m here to easeyour concerns! I recently had the pleasure oftalking with another avid planthobbyist, Brittney Spence. Sheshared with me how she gotinto her love for plants and herprocess of selling and growing. Brittney said she has alwaysloved growing her ownvegetable garden but realizedhouseplants were somethingshe could do year round. “Itdoesn’t matter if it’s rain, shine, warm or freezing, you can tendto houseplants whenever youfeel the itch,” she said. Havingthe right equipment in yourhome can really help to grow many different types of plantsyear-round. Many “extremehobbyists” purchase things likegrow lights, heat mats, plantcabinets (like an indoorgreenhouse), and humidifiers.Brittney informed me of what sheuses while growing her indoorplants; Barrina T5 or T8 growlights, Monios grow lights, IKEAMislbo Cabinet, Trapfit Sticky GnatTraps, and the Levoit humidifier. There are so many differentoptions out there, just make sureto read lots of reviews to see ifthey are right for you! It’s so easy to find a communityof plant people. From brownthumbs to golden thumbs, thereis a group for you. Brittney is apart of multiple Facebook groupsdedicated to plant trading andsharing tips. “I honestly acquiredhalf of the plants I have todayfrom making trades within thegroup,” she told me. To find oneof these groups, search for themwithin the Facebook site or app! If you want to be a part of an in-person community, look for localseed libraries, plant swap events,

and farmer’s markets. In fact, the farmer’s market ishow I share my plants. I startedout with a few propagations inmy apartment and listed themon Facebook Marketplace. Iwanted to expand the amountof plants I shared andpropagated and realized Ineeded a bigger market toshare to. The DowntownHattiesburg Farmer’s Marketwas the perfect size! Now, I canstart as many propagations as Iwant and don’t have to worryabout cluttering theapartment. Come see me, Lilyth Hansen,at the farmer’s market inDowntown Hattiesburg everyThursday from 3-6! I’m sure Ihave a plant just for you. You can find Brittney Spence ather Facebook page, @BrittneySpence or her Instagram,@the_sippie_hippie I also get to meet so manyamazing people within thecommunity and gain thehappiness of knowing my plantsget to live on in someone else’shome.Lilyth with her booth at the farmer's market

Sharing the Henington House Garden Cottage AirbnbWritten By Lilyth Hansen | Henington House

Page 35

Taking a vacation or a stay-cation is one of the best things you can do to unwind and relax from your responsibilities and hectic lifestyle. Here at the Henington House, we value becoming in tune with yourself, those around you, and the beautiful nature surrounding us. We are here to help you find these things. Behind the main Henington House rests a Gardener’s Cottage, built around 1912. It is nestled in the lush gardens and tall Mississippi trees, hiding in plain site. When you step into the cottage, it is as if you are transported back in time to tea parties, garden gatherings, and days laid in the sun. Historically, the downstairs was known to the Henington’s as their Carriage House. This space stored carriages used by the family. In the 1950’s, the Carriage House was transformed into an living space - a kitchen, gathering room, two bedrooms, and a bathroom. Traveling upstairs, you will find the Gardener’s Cottage. In this living area there is a kitchen, three bedrooms, and a bathroom all in the old Edwardian style of the past that brings relaxation and ease to a vacation. The cottage isn’t all old, however. There is modern electricity and internet. We would love to share with you and your family our beautiful Gardener’s Cottage and gardens, located in the Historic Neighborhood of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. When you stay in the cottage, you are walking distance from our active downtown city, parks, and restaurants. To reserve a date, please click the link on the next page and feel free to reach out with any questions or comments regarding the Henington House Gardener’s Cottage.

In need of a light fixture for one of the HHbathrooms that we're currently working on, we tookanother trip to the attic. We found an old fixture thatonce hung in the hall and added globes from a fixturethat years ago hung in the Master bedroom. However,we still needed something to serve as a medallion atthe ceiling, but nothing new was going to work so wetook an old plate charger, drilled a hole and BOOM!DONE!

Upcycle With Whatcha Got By: Lilyth Hansen | Henington House

Page 45

In the last edition, we talked about upcycling with Leisa Farris. Upcycling, in a nutshell, is to create or recycle an object to where it holds a higher value when the project is completed. Leisa showed us some of the items she upcycled through the years, including a really cool vinyl record bowl. There are so many ways to recycle what you have to make them useful. Over the past week, I realized I had too many old T-shirts I didn’t wear anymore. Naturally, I bagged them up to take to Goodwill when I remembered the article I had just written about upcycling. I thought, “What can I do with these shirts so they don’t end up in a landfill?” Lately, I’ve been making a lot of yarn plant hangers that I sell at the Downtown Hattiesburg Farmer’s Market. I remembered an instructional I saw on Pinterest many years ago about turning T-shirts into yarn. And presto! I looked up the tutorial again and got to work making plant hangers out of T-shirt yarn. Take a look at the picture! Next time you are about to throw something out, think about how you can use at least one more time.
