April 21, 2023ג״פשת ןסינ ’ל ערוצמ-עירזת תשרפ ONLY A SYMPTOM 7:14 PMDear Parents,The pasuk in this week’s Parsha reads: אוה אמט ׳וכו וניע תא עגנה ךפה אל הנהו עגנה תא ןהכה הארוThe Kohen shall see, after the עגנ has been washed, that should the color of the עגנ remain unchanged, it is אמטChazal tell us that one of the primary causes of tzara’as is speaking Lashon Hara. If the afflicted individual does not address the issue of Lashon Hara which caused his tzara’as, he will remain tamei and the tzara’as will not disappear.A person’s words express what he feels, and what he feels is generally based on how he sees. Speaking Lashon Hara is not just a problem in it of itself. It reflects a deeper issue. A person who speaks negatively about others is viewing others negatively. Shmiras HaLashon thus does not begin with the tongue. Rather it begins with changing one’s perception of people and the world around him. This is then the deeper meaning of the pasuk. If the tzara’as one contracted is persisting, it is a sign that וניע תא עגנה ךפה אל הנה – the person’s vision and worldview has remained unchanged.Based on this, Rav Shlomo Kluger explains the incident of the Meraglim. Because Bnei Yisrael listened to the Meraglim’s Lashon Hara, they were punished with forty years of wandering in the desert – corresponding to the forty days the spies had spent in Eretz Yisrael. The cheit however, was believing (and speaking) the Lashon Hara. Why were the Yidden punished according to the duration of time the spies spent in the land, and not according to how long the Lashon Hara was said and believed? With our new understanding of the underlying symptom of Lashon Hara, this is easily understood. The problem with the spies only culminated with their Lashon Hara about Eretz Yisrael. The issue began with the negative lens they used. Hence, the punishment was based on the forty days which was the root of their crime.Maintaining a positive home atmosphere and helping our children develop a positive worldview is a critical part of Chinuch.תבש טוג!Rabbi Ochs●● Fri, May 12 - Grandparents’ Day● Sun, May 14 - Hakhel

The transition back to learning and structure was very smooth. We are looking forward to a successful and enjoyable remainder of the school year. ● 6B has been twisting our weekly Writer's Workshop into a Writers, or at least Reader's Nightmare. Rather than striving for top scores or 6's for voice, organization, sentence fluency, word choice, and ideas they are aiming for 2's across the board (save format.) 6B is both having a blast making it clear they are writing badly and finding it hard to drop their writing down to the two's. Which of course is part of the reasoning behind the weirdness- seeing just how far their writing has progressed, and having fun with it, of course.● Torah Academy girls are accumulating IN THE KNOW points and are looking forward to their double point day this coming Monday. They are looking forward to sharing all their accumulated knowledge.● Over 35 girls participated in the bain hazmanim learning program on the Mitzvah of Challah and have handed in their completed packets. Thank you to the Mermelstein family for sponsoring the program l’zecher Nishmas Rabbi Mermelstein’s father.● Third grade participated in the Disability Awareness program facilitate by Mrs. Reena Slovin and Gateways. The students learned about the Blindness disability and had the opportunity to hear from Mr. Avner Fink, a lawyer with a vision impairment. The students were very engaged and learned to appreciate what a person with a vision disability uses to do daily activities. ● Welcome back Morah Sternfield! Grade 4 girls decorated their board with colorful messages expressing their excitement in having her back.● Grade 4 girls were treated to a special ice cream party sponsored by Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation as participants in the Shomrei Haloshon program.● Nurse Miri shared a healthy drinks presentation with the 6th grade boys. The boys learned the importance of reading the ingredients on beverages, how to read a nutrition label on beverages and how to calculate the amount of sugar that is in our drinks. The presentation concluded with the boys blending a chocolate strawberry smoothie and pineapple banana smoothie.● As an enrichment for 4B’s science unit, Mr. Tarlin did a special lesson on splitting of uranium atoms. The lesson included reviewing the periodic table and learning about atomic bombs.● 2B has almost completed all of their Chumash cards and are soon starting Tanach cards! As the boys are learning more Torah, they are excitedly collecting more and more cards! ● Thank you, Torah Academy for sponsoring special Rosh Chodesh refreshments for the staff in both Hamilton and Williston and thanks as well for sponsoring all our pre-Pesach car washes.Uniform Gemach AnnouncementThe make-up (and final) girls' Aerobics & Movement afterschool class will take place this Monday, April 24th Mazel Tov!
