We can all accept that we won’t hit shots like Scottie Scheffler(even if our finishes look similar sometimes). What we can do islearn to think like the pros. Target selection is critical in golf, and there are ways to improve your average score by selectingoptimal targets. Yes, you can improve your score right nowwithout hitting better shots. We will focus specifically on teeshots and how picking the correct target will lower your scores. First, you must understand shot dispersion. Each shot you hitcan travel left or right of your intended target, and the distancebetween your farthest left miss and farthest right miss is yourdispersion. A professional golfer’s dispersion with his driver isabout 70 yards, so his shots usually finish within 35 yards rightor left of his intended target. When you think of the target as anarea rather than just a single point, we can make betterstrategic decisions. The 16th hole at La Cumbre is a perfect example for choosingan optimal target off the tee. There is out of bounds to the leftand trees to the right, but out of bounds and trees are not equalin the severity of penalty. If you hit your tee shot out of boundsto the left, you are penalized one stroke and must hit the teeshot again, which is effectively a two-shot penalty. If you hityour tee shot into the trees, then your worst-case scenario islikely to be chipping sideways back into the fairway, which iseffectively a one-shot penalty. Therefore, if you had to errortowards one side, then missing to the right is clearly a betteroption.GOLF PROformanceTHINK LIKE THE PROSTHINK LIKE THE PROSFROM TRAVIS BREGMAN, PGAFIRST ASSISTANT GOLF PROFESSIONALBACK TO CONTENTS
Most amateurs’ dispersions with driver are only slightly largerthan professionals’ because amateurs’ drives travel a shorterdistance, so the ball does not have the ability to travel as faroffline. To ensure that you very rarely hit a ball out of bounds tothe left of the 16th hole, you should aim at least 40 yards right ofthe out of bounds. This would place the center of your dispersion,or your target, near the right edge of the fairway. Yes, you mayhit a few more drives into the trees, but you’ll almost eliminateyour out of bounds penalties, which will result in lower scoresover time. Limiting penalties is the fastest way to lower yourscores and does not require exceptional shots. The optimal targetis rarely the center of a fairway, so upgrade your strategy andpick the optimal target like the pros.Click to View the Uphill Chip Shot VideoWatch VideoSchedule fittingGOLF PROformanceBACK TO CONTENTSApril, 20th | 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Having missed our Super Bowl 9 & Dine due to inclement weather, theNiners were rarin' to go for our March St. Paddy's Day tournament, which enjoyed picture-perfect weather. Everyone donned their bestIrish Green and gathered in front of the pro shop to hear instructionsfor the "Irish Scramble," which featured little green balls that had tobe used for the first drive. Players on each team took a turn on eachhole making that first drive - which had to be used - and if the greenball was lost, the team was penalized two strokes. The normalscramble format was followed on the second shot. Of course, Evan'sdrink of the day featuring vodka and creme de menthe definitelyhelped the players keep their Irish spirit alive, and memories of baddrives and missed putts were quickly forgotten. While awaiting dessert service,Evan and Jilly Winchester moderated a game of "Irish Slang," guessingthe meaning of Irish words and phrases, which was pretty tricky! Aspart of the festivities, Evan was awarded a beautiful engraveddecanter from the Niners, acknowledging his 43 years of dedication atLCCC. Karen Carey presented the decanter and delivered a movingtribute to Evan for his remarkable tenure and commitment to LCCCand The Niners. With the launch of the new app at the club, I figured it would befitting to talk about adapting to change in our lives. Each one ofus will handle change differently, but here are three strategiesthat can help us navigate uncertainty in our lives. Having a Growth MindsetAt some point in our lives, we will all experience change.Sometimes, this change is welcomed and wanted; other times,it’s anything but. Regardless of the type of change weencounter, it's important to approach it with a level head andan open mind. This type of thinking is also known as a growthmindset approach. A growth mindset allows us to see thesechanges as stepping stones towards self-development ratherthan barriers to our current lifestyle. Any strategy thatempowers us as individuals and diminishes the perceivedpower of “the change” is a strategy that we want to implement. Self-Reflection If you don’t know how you are handling or responding tochange, asking yourself a very pointed question can help guideyou into better decision-making. I love to ask myself, “Am Ibeing adaptable, am I open to new ideas, am I being flexible inmy approach, and am I developing problem-solving skills?”. Ifthe answer is no to any of these, then I know I am limiting mypotential for growth during this time of uncertainty. Next timeyou experience change, take a step back, have a moment ofself-reflection, and ask yourself one of these questions. Answeropenly and honestly and see if it provides you with some claritymoving forward.Adapting to ChangeWords of Wellness with jarratT rouseTHE DIVOT | FITNESSBACK TO CONTENTS
