I was happy to take on the challenge – it was to be the first time that I would see an XJ220 and the first time I would meet Jim Randle, Keith Helfet, Win Percy, Norman Dewis and a host of other Jaguar people besides! Jaguar Heritage were keen to accept my invitation and agreed to bring the XJ220 Concept Car to Weston Park, and as it arrived the day before the event I was able to get a picture of Brucie parked next to it before the other XJ220’s arrived!Don Law agreed to bring the Martini racing XJ220 and the Ford Transit, which was fitted with the same V6 engine as the production cars, however, I had to raise £500 sponsorship in order to get these delivered to the Letitia recommends you save the date for a special Gaydon celebration (2nd September, as you’re asking)…XC LUS IVELY LETITIAIevent. This sponsorship was very kindly provided by All Transports and Zytek.At this time, XJ220 was still an open wound for Jaguar Cars and they didn’t want to talk about it, much less be involved in supporting it, so I relied on the generosity of XJ220 enthusiasts to sponsor the event! By 2017, this had all changed, and Jaguar themselves, via newly established Jaguar Classic, sponsored an XJ220 reunion at Silverstone Race Circuit, celebrating the 25th anniversary. This was a very up-market event, with a reception by invitation only and a parade of over 40 XJ220’s on the racetrack, and I was very fortunate to be in one of them! This proved to be such a popular event by those who attended, that they were keen to do it again this year. As it would be unfair to expect Nigel Webb to host this event on an annual basis, we feel that Gaydon will make an excellent venue – especially as it will be 50 years since the model’s announcement. n28 |     
