Dear Parents, When discussing the laws of תערצ on clothing, the possuk states: ןהכה הארו תא עגנה ךפה אל הנהו עגנה תא סבכה ירחאונפרשת שאב אוה אמט השפ אל עגנהו וניע. If a garment made of wool, linen, or leather develops a green or red stain, the Kohen quarantines the item for seven days. After seven days, he examines the דגב, and if the עגנ has not spread, but stays the same, the owner locks away the item for another seven days. If the עגנ persists unchanged after the second set of seven days, the item of clothing is burned. The Chidushei HaRim writes that during the time that the דגב is quarantined, the owner should be focused on doing Teshuva for the הריבע that caused the תערצ on the דגב. The Gemara in ט ןיכרע‘ז lists seven sins that are punished with תערצ. Among them is ןיע תורצ, a negative and judgmental perspective. The Teshuva for this sin is to relate to others with an הבוט ןיע, a positive viewpoint and generous spirit. Based on this Gemara, the Chidushei HaRim explains the words of the possuk: עגנה ךפה אל הנהו ...וכו ןהכה הארווניע תא. The words ‘the עגנ didn’t change its color’ can also be understood to allude to a person with ןיע תורצ who did not take advantage of the seven days to develop an הבוט ןיע. In the same vein, Rav Leib Lopian points out that the words עגנ and גנע have the same letters. The only difference is the location of the ןיע. The Possuk in Koheles reads: ויניע םכחהושארב. This possuk is literally understood as referring to a wise man’s foresight. A homiletic interpretation explains that a wise man has ויניע, his ןיע, at the head. By placing his ןיע at the beginning, he enjoys a life of גנע instead of a life where the ןיע is at the end of the word, עגנ. The Parsha of תערצ opens with the possuk ןהכה לא אבוהו ׳וכו ׳יהי יכ םדא. A person with תערצ is brought to the ןהכ. The רהוז writes that the word םדאconnotes a respected individual. The question is obvious. This person has been ostensibly and deservedly stricken with תערצ. Why is he spoken of as an םדא? Rav Nissim Alpert ל״צז explains that the value of an individual isn’t measured by how many and how few mistakes he makes. Rather, his value is determined by the extent he learns from his errors. A person whose ambition is to constantly grow and better himself and therefore comes to the Kohen to diagnose his error is considered by the Torah to be worthy of the term םדא. !תבש טוג Rabbi Ochs

In the Williston building, all grades gathered together in memory of Maran HaGaon Rav Chaim Kanievsky, ztz"l. Rabbi Ochs spoke to the boys and Rabbi Sebbag shared some stories about the Gadol Hador. The student body, as a whole, took upon themselves three initiatives that emulate the ways of Rav Chaim, ztz”l: - To learn for 15 mins during class with absolutely no interruptions. - To focus only on positive interactions during the first 3 mins of recess. - To make a personal kabbalah and keep it at least until the Pesach break. The boys also watched a video about Rav Kanievsky’s remarkable life. Thank you Rabbi Sebbag for arranging the assembly! The girls in grades 1-8 joined together in memory of Maran HaGaon Rav Chaim Kanievsky, ztz”l. Mrs. Moskovitz spoke to the girls about his unbelievable yiras shamayim, ahavas hatorah and ahavas Yisroel. Mrs. Moskovitz shared personal stories about the Gadol Hador, some that impacted her own life. She emphasized that there are so many things we can learn from the way he lived and so many ways in which we can improve ourselves. Girls 5-8 also watched a video depicting many episodes from his life. Mrs. Nechama Reifman shared with grades 5-8 a poignant video, narrated and set to song, describing the accomplishments of the Gadol Hador. The front hall of the Williston building has a new I-CARE bulletin board designed by Mrs. Tova Kahn. It includes completed I-CARE cards which are examples of acts of Integrity, Community, Appreciation, Respect, and Effort. PreK1 celebrated Dr. Seuss Day in honor of his birthday. Mrs. Kagan read one of his books to the kinderlach and explained rhyming words. For V week in K2, the students acted out being a veterinarian. As part of their new unit on reflection and shadow, the students of PreK2 did many activities learning about reflections, such as drawing self-portraits of themselves leaving Mitzrayim, making a woodland and playing in it. Mazel Tov to 2G on completing parshas Vayera. As part of their siyum, the girls were divided into three groups. Each group prepared and preformed a skit that demonstrated a part of what occurred in the parsha. Thank you Mrs. Fontek. Students in 4G investigated the relationship between potential and kinetic energy, and how gravitational height can affect the kinetic energy of an object. 5B revisited a design challenge with their greater knowledge of geometry and 3D shapes. The challenge: In 40 minutes, build the tallest tower possible that defines a 3D shape. Along the way, dowels and smiles soared. Mazel Tov to 5G on completing parshas Mishpatim.
