Page 3 of 35 Executive Summary The Satellite Programme for UPSC Coaching at Madras Christian College, conducted by the Institute for Administrative Services Coaching (IASC) in collaboration with the MCC IAS Academy, has continued to grow in outreach and effectiveness since its inception in 2022–2023. This year, the programme enrolled 36 students, providing high-quality coaching to civil service aspirants on campus. Through structured classes, expert lectures, student engagement, and scholarship initiatives, the programme has become a vital platform for nurturing future civil servants. Activities were conducted in alignment with the college calendar to ensure integration with the students' academic responsibilities. Inauguration The classes for this academic year was inaugurated on July 24, 2024. Dr. Manohar, Director of the Academy and Dr. Ilango, former Coordinator, IASC addressed the gathering, highlighting the demanding path to civil services and stressing the non-commercial, service-oriented nature of the coaching. Designed to offer accessible, quality education, the programme marks a promising step in the academic journey of students and commitment to public service aspirations. CSAT training introduces students to reasoning and quantitative aptitude, crucial for Prelims. Subjects like Science and Technology, Ethics, Disaster Management, Internal Security, and International Relations address contemporary issues relevant to Mains. Page 5 of 35 Class Schedule & Delivery A hallmark of the Satellite Programme is its student-centric scheduling, thoughtfully crafted to accommodate the academic calendar of the College. Classes were held thrice a week—on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. To enrich the learning experience and encourage engagement, one Saturday session each month was conducted at the Chetpet campus, providing students with an alternative academic setting. The regular classes were conducted in the Research Scholars’ Chamber within the Miller Memorial Library, offering a quiet and focused environment for learning. What sets this initiative apart is its flexible and adaptive academic calendar. The timetable is not fixed rigidly for the year but is periodically reviewed and redesigned based on student feedback, evolving academic workloads, and key events in the college calendar. Careful consideration is given to avoid scheduling sessions during Continuous Assessment (CA) tests, End Semester Examinations (ESE), and unforeseen holidays such as those due to inclement weather. This proactive approach ensures that students are not overburdened and can strike a healthy balance between their regular coursework and civil services preparation. Another unique and commendable feature of the programme is the consistent coordination with the Hall wardens and the College Librarian. They are kept well-informed about the class schedule to ensure that Hall residents receive timely support, including access to reading spaces, meal timings, and rest hours. This measure underscores the programme’s broader commitment to fostering a supportive and well-coordinated academic ecosystem. The Satellite Programme demonstrates a deep sensitivity to student needs, making it a model of academic flexibility and thoughtful administration. Figure 2 Sample Time table
Page 6 of 35 Faculty & Facilities The Satellite Programme has greatly benefited from the strong support and visionary approach of our Principal, who has played a pivotal role in ensuring the success and smooth functioning of the initiative. A key aspect of this support lies in the optimal utilization of existing college infrastructure, combined with targeted enhancements tailored to the needs of civil services aspirants. Advanced teaching aids such as interactive whiteboards and access to curated digital resources have significantly enriched the teaching-learning process, allowing for a more engaging and interactive classroom experience. Classes are held in an air-conditioned environment, ensuring that students can focus on their preparation in a diginifed and professional ambience. Further, 40 new chairs were added to the classroom, enhancing the physical comfort and seating capacity of the learning space. In addition, the management extended library access to include a wide range of resources relevant to civil services preparation, such as newspapers, current affairs magazines, and reference materials. This has created a more holistic academic environment that supports both classroom learning and self-study. These initiatives reflect not only the management's commitment to academic excellence but also their proactive efforts in leveraging college resources efficiently. By aligning institutional assets with the specific needs of the programme, the college has created a supportive ecosystem for aspirants. We express our sincere gratitude to the college management for their unwavering support, thoughtful planning, and continued investment in student development through the Satellite Programme. Their involvement has been instrumental in fostering an environment of serious learning and aspirational growth. Test & Evaluation of Performance Tests Conducted As part of the Satellite Programme’s academic strategy, regular MCQ-based tests were conducted to reinforce classroom learning and provide students with a realistic measure of their preparation levels. These tests focused on core areas of the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination, including
Page 7 of 35 History, Polity, Economy, Environment, and CSAT. By aligning test content with the subjects covered in class, students were given an immediate opportunity to assess their understanding and retention. Observations The tests served not only as a revision tool but also as a diagnostic instrument, helping participants identify their strengths and areas needing improvement. This will enable students to take timely and focused follow-up action in their study plans. Additionally, the tests offered a valuable benchmark against which future performance could be measured, allowing students to track progress over time. This structured approach to evaluation underscores the programme’s commitment to serious and sustained preparation, equipping students with the tools necessary for continuous improvement. Attendance Overview Metric Details Average Attendance 53% Monitoring Mechanism Close tracking of attendance, counselling for absenteeism Support Measures Students submitted leave letters; Hall students tracked through wardens OD Support On-Duty provided by the college for official coaching sessions on working Saturdays

These sessions were designed not only to motivate aspirants but also to provide practical perspectives on the challenges and responsibilities that come with civil services roles. A unique strength of the “Meet the Leader” series was its interactive nature. Students were encouraged to engage directly with the speakers, ask questions, and gain clarity on preparation strategies and career choices. These sessions also served as a platform for peer networking, allowing aspirants from different departments and academic streams to connect and share experiences.
Page 9 of 35 Participation was open to students across various halls and departments, ensuring a wide and inclusive reach. As a student-friendly gesture, On Duty (OD) permission was granted to attendees, allowing them to attend without academic penalty. This concession, supported by the college management, demonstrated their commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment and prioritizing student development. Overall, the “Meet the Leader” lecture series played a vital role in creating awareness about public service, inspiring students, and strengthening the academic culture around civil services preparation. Page 10 of 35 Scholarships – Empowering Aspirants Scholarship Support Initiative – In Collaboration with Sugam Hospitals A significant milestone in the Satellite Programme was the successful launch of a scholarship initiative made possible through the generous support of Sugam Hospitals. Aimed at identifying and supporting deserving students based on merit and financial need, this initiative benefitted 15 students, enabling them to pursue high-quality civil services coaching without financial burden. The proposal for this scholarship programme was developed and professionally posted on the Alumni Development Office’s website, seeking support from the alumni network. This outreach reflected the vision of the college to mobilize support through institutional partnerships and alumni engagement. Notably, the efforts of Principal Dr. P. Wilson were instrumental in shaping the proposal, coordinating with stakeholders, and guiding it through every stage of development. His leadership ensured that the proposal met the highest standards of transparency and professionalism. A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the college and Sugam Hospitals. The process involved several rounds of deliberation and careful drafting to meet legal and institutional requirements. This was a time-intensive but essential step that reflected the commitment of both parties to a long-term, meaningful collaboration in the interest of student development. The selection process for the scholarships was rigorous and executed in five well-defined stages: Application Submission – Students were asked to submit their applications along with supporting documents verifying their academic and financial background. MCQ Subject Test – Held on 31 July 2024, this test evaluated candidates on key civil services subjects to ensure baseline readiness.
