Page 4Hey Everybody! What an incredible 92nd Season we had at Ogunquit Playhouse! My 19th season was a truly momentous year with some of our favorite artists. Whether human or an extra-terrestrial plant, the line-up of extraordinary performers was beyond brilliant. We had the perfect blend of Broadway of today, a reinterpreted classic, and a world premiere. We began 2024 with the Broadway hit musical Waitress. Abbey O’Brien, from the original Broadway creative team, directed our production alongside TikTok dance sensations, Cost n’ Mayor, who made their musical theatre choreography debut. The cast included Tony-Award-Winner Cleavant Derricks as Old Joe and social media powerhouse Desi Oakley as Jenna, along with the Broadway talents Ben Jacoby, Gizel Jimenez, Maiesha McQueen, Jimmy Ray Bennett, Matt DeAngelis, and Kennedy Kanagawa. Special to Ogunquit productions, we had our orchestra of six musicians in full view, tucked into a corner of the restaurant, which critics said was a stroke of genius. We followed the beautiful storytelling of Waitress with the high-energy tap-dancing Broadway Gershwin musical, Crazy For You. Ogunquit favorites Max Clayton as Bobby Childs, Taylor Aronson as Polly Baker, and the incredibly talented Angie Schworer as Irene (17 years after originally playing the role here at the Playhouse!), returned. AND, Sally Struthers returned for her 24th show at The Playhouse! Featuring Susan Stroman’s thunderous choreography, Angelique Ilo from the original team on Crazy For You, directed our production, and award-winning scenic designer Adam Koch came back to design a new set. And who could forget the original William Ivey Long Costumes! Then, magically, we spent ‘A Weekend in the Country’ with 2-time Golden Globe Winner, Academy Award, Grammy, and 2-time Tony Award Nominee, Kathleen Turner. Kathleen graced the Ogunquit Playhouse stage in A Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim. Wicked’s Julia Murney played her daughter, Desirée. Nik Walker returned to OP as Carl Magnus, and Gianna Yaelli from Mystic Pizza returned as Petra. This production was highly praised and critics and fans came from NYC and around the country to see it. Led by Broadway actors Etai Benson as Seymour, Talia Suskauer as Audrey, Adam Heller as Mr. Mushnik, and Ed Watts as Orin, we traveled to skid row in Little Shop of Horrors. Hunter Foster, who originated the role of Seymour on Broadway, returned to direct his 2nd show of the season (the first being A Little Night Music). We were THRILLED when Ru Paul’s Drag Race alum, Latrice Royale, said she would join us as we transformed Audrey II into a live human onstage for our production. Dustin Cross and Bryce Turgeon designed costumes that we had only imagined in our minds, and Latrice literally blew up the stage on the original Broadway set with additions designed by Nate Bertone.GREETINGS FROM OP
Page 5We closed the 2024 season with a World Premiere, My Best Friend’s Wedding. Our New Works Program supported and underwrote this in association with global, West End and Broadway producers, Crossroads Live. 3-time Tony Winner and 15-time Broadway director Kathleen Marshall returned to The Playhouse to direct this production. Tony Winner Matt Doyle as Michael, was joined by Broadway actors, Krystal Joy Brown as Julianne, Lianah Sta.Ana as Kimmy, and Telly Leung as George. Burt Bacharach’s writing partner, Hal David’s widow, Eunice David, flew from LA to see the show and meet the cast. My Best Friend’s Wedding sold out and was standing-room only, the first time in my 20-year history at The Playhouse! We are excited to see where this show goes next. As with the past ten years, we ended the season at The Music Hall in Portsmouth–this time with Disney’s Frozen. We introduced our audiences to Cate Hayman as Elsa and Marilyn Caserta as Anna and welcomed back F. Michael Haney who had been our Quasimodo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Angie Schworer made her choreography debut, and Angelique Ilo was brought back to direct. Children from our own Arts Academy starred in the show as Young Elsa and Young Anna, and Jeffrey Campos, Music Director, hit 25 shows with The Playhouse.Through all of this, our New Works Program continues to work on readings both in New York City and in Ogunquit of projects in development, while launching the commissioning of revivals of classic Broadway titles, working alongside up-and-coming creators and well-known authors from the Golden Age of Broadway. For the first time in 92 years, we were thrilled to offer year-round employment and benefits to the exceptionally talented artists who bring the magic of Ogunquit Playhouse to life on stage. Through investments in our shop and technical artisans, we were able to offer health and vacation benefits to departments that were once limited to seasonal work. These advancements elevated not only the quality of the performances we shared on stage but also the work environment for our incredible staff and production teams.Inspiring generations of audiences and artists and celebrating the great American theatrical tradition is what we do best here at Ogunquit Playhouse. I am so excited to share our many accomplishments with you in these pages and have you back with us in 2025 for my 20th Season. We are so grateful for your support!Best, Bradford T. KenneyExecutive Artistic DirectorGREETINGS FROM OP
Page 6Dear Friends,As we reflect on 2024, we are filled with immense pride and gratitude for what we have accomplished together. This year was a testament to the strength, resilience, and vision of the Ogunquit Playhouse. Thanks to the dedication of our staff, artists, Board, and supporters, we have navigated challenges, seized opportunities, and made meaningful strides toward securing our future. This past year, we saw continued growth in revenue, donor engagement, and national recognition. We welcomed new leadership, expanded our fundraising efforts, and made key strategic decisions that will serve us well for years to come. Our 2024 season was our most well received in our history. We featured a recent Broadway musical (Waitress), a Stephen Sondheim classic (A Little Night Music), a tap dance extravaganza (Crazy For You), and a beloved contemporary classic (Little Shop of Horrors). Our reputation as a home for new work remains strong, as we premiered a new musical – My Best Friend’s Wedding – which was the highest grossing show ever produced on our stage. While we celebrate these achievements, we must also acknowledge the ongoing challenges facing the theater industry. Rising costs—from materials to labor to artist housing—have placed financial pressure on theaters across the country. At Ogunquit Playhouse, while we have been fortunate to see audiences return to pre-pandemic levels, expenses have surged by more than 40%. The financial gap between revenue and expenses remains a pressing concern, requiring innovative solutions to ensure sustainability without sacrificing accessibility. As we move into 2025, we are committed to rising to the challenges. We remain steadfast in our belief that theater is not a luxury—it is a necessity. It brings people together, sparks conversations, and creates lasting memories. But for it to thrive, we need passionate advocates like you.Thank you for your unwavering support and belief in our mission. Here’s to a future as bright as the footlights on our stage. With gratitude,GREETINGS FROM OPBen AugerBoard PresidentDeborah WarrenManaging Director

MIDSUMMER CELEBRATIONOn July 28th, over 200 guests gathered to honor long-time Ogunquit Playhouse supporter and Board Member Ann Ramsay-Jenkins at our Midsummer Celebration. Guests watched a performance of A Little Night Music and convened to the front lawn for a special event honoring Ann. The evening was filled with fabulous company, beautiful views of the coast, cocktails, and a fabulous performance by Nat Zegree who played Jerry Lee Lewis in Ogunquit Playhouse’s production of Million Dollar Quartet.
