A Year of Connection At a time when many in our community have felt isolated JBBBS worked hard to create connection Despite the pandemic hundreds of JBBBS relationships flourished Matches and Friends connected virtually and safely came together outside for meaningful get togethers Jeff s consistency was a huge bright spot in a scary dreary horrific time for my grandson He called regularly Facetimed Zoomed played games online sent dinners gift cards and Amazon surprises Cindy Little s grandmother and guardian

Hendly had never been hiking before we matched and it has been great to share one of my favorite hobbies While the pandemic has had many negatives we have enjoyed the excuse to get outside even more than we did before Big Brother Steven

OUR IMPACT IN NUMBERS Over the course of the year JBBBS has transformed the lives of hundreds of individuals through the power of one to one relationships Here are some numbers that help to quantify our impact 3 200individual social worker contacts with volunteers guardians and children to ensure that campers attended 59 70 755 camp with the help of scholarships matches and family needs are supported 26 in camp 368 Bigs and Littles currently in the second year of the groundbreaking current matches in the Children s and Friend 2 Friend programs LGBTQ initiative 87 towns served in the Greater Boston area

Safely keeping people connected with virtual events For the first half of the year JBBBS hosted nearly 20 virtual events to help keep connections strong Celebrating Chanukah JBBBS hosted two different events to mark Chanukah Close to 100 Friend 2 Friend participants got their groove on for the Bamel Family Zumba dance party and dozens of Children s Program participants submitted videos and attended the Silk Family JBBBS Got Talent talent show Both programs included an opportunity to light the Chanukah candles as a group Chocolate SedeR TeleMagic Extravaganza In November JBBBS hosted a TeleMagic Extravaganza Magician event More than 40 Bigs Littles and Friends gathered on Zoom to watch magic and learn tricks with materials they had around the house JBBBS celebrated Passover this year with a Chocolate Seder More than 240 chocolate boxes were distributed to the JBBBS community The packages also included a link to a video of an online Seder led by JBBBS staff Many matches came together to watch the video and to participate in the Seder over Facetime together Monthly MAGIC groups also celebrated together by watching the Seder in smaller groups

Key Milestones This year was filled with many accomplishments Here are just a few we are particularly proud to share JBBBS Recognized with Gold Standard Award JBBBS was proud to be recognized as a 2020 Big Brothers Big Sisters of America BBBSA Gold Standard Award Winner Every year the BBBSA Nationwide Leadership Council made up of local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency leaders and board members select agencies for excellence Despite the challenges of the past year JBBBS is thrilled to be selected as just one of two of the 236 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across the country to receive this top honor

JBBBS Hosted First In Person Outdoor Event in More than a Year More than 170 participants attended JBBBS Seligman Family Food Truck event in May over two sessions one for Friend 2 Friend and one for the Children s Program Delicious grilled cheese sandwiches and ice cream sandwiches were served up while participants also enjoyed a photo booth lawn games and sidewalk chalk Everyone had a great time safely catching up with friends and staff JBBBS Awarded Prestigious Cummings Grant JBBBS was one of 140 local nonprofits to receive a grant through the prestigious Cummings Foundation s 25 Million Grant Program Chosen from a total of 590 applicants during a competitive review process JBBBS will receive 100 000 over 3 years to launch a new college mentoring program geared toward the agency s Littles who are nearing the end of high school and need additional guidance to be successful in college JBBBS is thrilled to launch this program that will support and encourage Littles throughout their college years and give participants an even greater chance at graduating

Celebrating Yom Sport s 25th Anniversary Roughly 150 athletes and volunteers participated in Yom Sport s 25th Anniversary in September Yom Sport an annual event created by JBBBS provides athletes with disabilities an opportunity to come together and take part in a variety of sporting and team building events Athletes competed in golf putting football throw bocce and relay races
