, & . . The central tenets guiding our process — Authenticity , Heritage, and Innovation — mean that every sculptural element in our collection has been carefully selected, designed and hand-crafted to reflect the origins of the materials we use. This essential approach applies to everything we curate; from the unique characteristics of our French oak, the natural beauty of our limestone, the fluid designs of our pewter countertops, to the age-old process of Scagliola stone. Together, let’s realize the possibilities of your design environment.Twy - ve Yrs e Mg RETURN TO WEBSITE >
25TH ANNIVERSARY LOOKBOOK 3p /97 p /07 p /27 p /53p /61Exquisite materials and absolute function are born of the battle between design and the material assignment. With our premium Oak hardwoods, Limestone, Terra Cotta, Scagliola, and Metals; the unique essence of each piece, the material itself, is as important as yielding beauty in form —whether as an embellishment or reductive feature. 25TH ANNIVERSARY LOOKBOOK 3 RETURN TO WEBSITE >
25TH ANNIVERSARY LOOKBOOK PRELUDE 5As a child, I remember walking for hours captivated by the timeworn facades built from the stone, clay, and wood surrounding me. Wandering the streets of Paris, Rome, Venice, Pompeii, and Florence, I often found myself humbled by gazing up above my head or gazing down below at the centuries-old stone paths leading me through these beautiful historic cities. I wanted to learn more about those who once cut and carved these stones, forming the very foundation of the roads and structures of the villages—like the ones in front of Santa Restituta Church in my village of Calenzana, Corsica. I questioned where the marble had originated and how the paving stones were created and laid without mortar, positioned perfectly to prevail against centuries of wear. I reected over the intricate ironworks—how long had they been here? How old were these woods and how were they seasoned and milled? The irregular shapes of the roof tiles glistening in the sun and the colors of the glazes, how did the artisans create such beauty? Not one of these wonderments went unchallenged: I examined with my senses — studying the method and use of the materials, the authenticity, and patina, smelling their antiquated history, trying to unlock the secrets of the ancient techniques that had formed them and their structures so long ago. My appreciation for this extraordinary artistry has inspired me to respect and appreciate so many forgotten techniques and has fueled my life-long appreciation for art, beauty and craftmanship. One of them I have particularly cherished is the Italian technique of Scagliola Stone —the art of creating unique and colorful stone architectural elements and surfaces. François and Company’s Architectural and Surfaces collections are founded upon these early childhood memories, as we pay homage to the artisans whom came before us, and to those who carry on the techniques today. With our latest offerings, I am proud to honor the things that have so captivated me as we painstakingly create new products which complement today’s lifestyle. , 18 , — ’ . RETURN TO WEBSITE >

25TH ANNIVERSARY LOOKBOOK HARDWOODS 9e n g i n ee r e d h a r d w o o ds o l i d h a r d w o o dSome of the world’s finest oak is sourced from sustainable forests in the French heartland. A third of the land encompasses lush forests, yielding premium grade solid oak. Considered one of the most valuable species of oak, this tighter grained hardwood is also used to make wine barrels. The earthy coloring of our French oak is not a result of the shallow application of stains, but a far deeper process. The distinct light to dark brown tones are enhanced naturally through a thermal pres-sure treatment, undergoing a pH-modied water bath that triggers a natural reaction between the iron and wood tannins, just like that found in real bogs. This process increases durability, while preventing our wood from fading—even when exposed to UV light over time.: -VERSAILLESHERRINGBONECHEVRON PLANKS

98 FRANÇOISANDCO.COM HiliFor many centuries, Scagliola (pronounced sca-lee-oh-la) was the highest form of ornamental stone art. During the Renaissance, Italians decorated their churches and luxurious residences with this time-honored artisanal technique. Scagliola stone is made from natural stone chips, marble dust, mineral pigments and bonding agents. Once the medium is mixed, it is carefully layered by hand into a mold. The stone piece is then removed from the form and carefully polished by hand. Multiple polishings, using increasingly ner and ner grades of stone and water produce a dense, yet silky smooth surface with a texture of amazing clarity.
