Walt Disney

By: Manay Divatia

I chose Walt Disney because he is very inspiring and one of the best and well known animators of all time. He was just a normal boy like everyone else but he grew up to be someone amazing. He fought through all his problems and struggles to achieve his goals and dreams. He brings all his characters to life and most situations realistic and relatable. That is why I chose Walt Disney.

Walt Disney is an animation pioneer because he was one of first people who really stuck out from others and became the best he could have been. He is also an animation pioneer because even after Walt died his legacy still stood and Disney the company is striving for new possibilities no one has ever seen. That is why Walt Disney is an animation pioneer.

Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Hermosa, Chicago, Illinois. His father was Elias Disney and his mother was Flora Call.  He has a total of 4 brothers and sister named Herbert Arthur Disney, Roy O. Disney, Raymond Arnold Disney, and Ruth Flora Disney. At the age of 4, Walt moved to Marceline, Missouri. He went to McKinley High school and the Chicago Institute of Art. At the age of 16,  Walt tried out for the army but couldn't get in due to underage. He moved to France for a year where he worked as an ambulance driver.

He moved back to America and got a job at Pesmen- Rubi Commercial Art Studio and went to work at different places too. There he met Ubbe Eert Iwwerks (Ub Iwerks) and became friends. He started his own company with Laugh-O-grams and Alice in Cartoonland but in 1923, had to declare bankruptcy due to large amounts of debt. Walt moved to Hollywood and started Alice cartoons which were contracted at $1,500. From there his company shot up like in 1929 where he won his first oscar for Snow White and the 7 Dwarves. His company is now known worldwide and continuous to grow.
