13Dear Conference Attendees,Welcome to the 2024 ANAC annual conference here in Indianapolis. I am grateful to spend the next four days with you, my ANAC family, eager to meet first-time attendees and to hear from our speakers- we have a great line-up this year.It has been a rough time leading up to the conference. I am shook and there’s no way not to acknowledge that. For many of us, the last few days has been a time to reflect on where we stand and how to stay grounded in our work and beliefs and move forward in these troubled times. I hold onto the words from another… “We must stay true to the belief that the honorable side of America will prevail as it has in the past. Grieve now and then lets begin the job of resistance. You are not alone.”Our content reflects the beliefs that we share, consistent and planned before the election. We open with reflections on the power of individual nurses to impact a patient and their family and their community. This is our super power. Next, health policy experts from the President’s Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) will highlight what’s been achieved in the past year and grapple with what the future may hold. The important role of the CDC and investing in public health infrastructure, teamed with the critical role of the NIH and investing in science and research to continue the progress in HIV prevention and treatment are the focus of Friday plenaries. Saturday morning, we focus on the role of PEPFAR in global health and we close with a session on the impact of climate change on health and healthcare. Throughout the conference there are important and thought-provoking sessions on health disparities, stigma, and clinical updates so that you can best serve your patients, clients and communities. We invite you to stop into any of our committee meetings that interest you and consider getting more involved in 2025. Grieve now, then remember our superpower! We have many registered from the local Indianapolis community, nurses, other providers, activists and community members. Join me in welcoming them into ANAC. We are hosting the Awards Dinner on Thursday night and closing the conference with the Gala on Saturday night. I am always boosted by the joy at the Awards Dinner- recognizing our colleagues is a good thing! This year’s Gala (aka gay-la) promises to be special - a Drag Race disco- hosted by the famous Indy Bag Ladies- iconic Drag Queens in all their splendor! The cost of these events is included in the registration and all are welcome. Last but certainly not least, I want to thank our sponsors and supporters who make the conference possible, the conference committee for their guidance, and a BIG shout out to the ANAC sta who have worked so hard on pulling this together. My hope is we will all leave conference a little more grounded and determined in going forward with kindness and commitment to addressing the social determinants of health and achieving health equity for all. Sincerely,Carole Treston, RN, MPH, ACRN, FAAN ANAC Executive Director
