Algoma University respectfully acknowledges that its three campuses are located on the inherent and treaty lands of First Nations and within traditional lands of Indigenous peoples. For thousands of years, Indigenous peoples inhabited and cared for this land, and continue to do so today. The Sault Ste. Marie campus is located in an area known as Baawaating on sacred lands set aside for education as envisioned by Chief Shingwauk for our children and for those as yet unborn. The student residence will be designed to be a decolonized and Indigenized space in keeping with Algoma University’s Special Mission, which fosters cross-cultural education between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. 9

International ExperiencesSHORT-TERM INTERNATIONAL LEARNING Algoma University offers innovative, short-term international experiences in which students travel as a group to international destinations for 1-3 weeks to complete an academic course. Students have traveled to Italy, Belgium, Spain, Guatemala, Colombia, Belize, and India to engage in hands-on experiential learning related to their academic discipline. Experiences in the past have included an Indigenous cultural exchange focused on Mayan and Garifuna Architecture, Ethnomedicine, and Astronomy and a course on the global rise of democracy in India where students visited numerous NGOs and officials with the World Bank, Canadian High Commission, and the TATA Group. QUEEN ELIZABETH SCHOLARS (QES) PROGRAM Queen Elizabeth Scholars engage with community, learn about culture, and work on projects and actions with a global impact. Queen Elizabeth Scholars become part of a global network of scholars who share knowledge, exchange ideas, and collaborate on meaningful initiatives. Algoma University’s QES project is focused on community-based experiences to advance decolonization and cross-cultural education. Queen Elizabeth Scholars from Algoma University will engage in study, research, or an internship abroad for a minimum of two months, as well as engage in community work locally and internationally. 19

MARIE OR BRAMPTON CAMPUSES Students who already hold a degree or diploma in a discipline other than computer science may be able to earn a Bachelor of Computer Science (General) or a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (General) in as little as 12 months, depending upon their previous credentials. Additional Information: Students who complete the accelerated program can continue on to the fourth year of the program and earn a four-year honours degree. GraduatePrograms New to our Programming! Algoma University now offers Graduate degree programs at the Master’s level in Computer Science, Biology and Social Work. MASTER OF COMPUTER SCIENCE A one-year (three-semester) course-based Master’s Program designed for Bachelor degree graduates in computer science, information technology and related areas. This program is being offered both in Sault Ste. Marie and Brampton in two yearly intakes, fall and winter. Congdon earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with Honours from Algoma University in 2013, where she was on the Dean’s Honour List each year. She went on to complete her Master’s and Ph.D. in Psychology, specializing in Comparative Cognition & Behaviour, and conducted research internationally on songbird communication and desert ant navigation. Now an Assistant Professor at Concordia University of Edmonton, she leads the C.L.A.W. Laboratory in collaboration with the Edmonton Valley Zoo, with 26 publications and a passion for igniting interest in psychology among her students. “ I wholeheartedly recommend attending Algoma University. My undergraduate degree provided the knowledge and skills, professional experiences, and personal advice that directly ensured the success of my career.
