2022 THE FUTURE IS NOW ALA PATRIOTS FOOTBALL MEET OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR JEFF OLIVERSON Patriot Football welcomes Jeff Oliverson to ALA Queen Creek for his first full football season as our Athletic Director We are excited to have Mr Oliverson s leadership as a loyal true and through red and blue ALA QC Patriot The rich ALA traditions and values brought Mr Oliverson and his family from St George Utah in 2017 to Arizona and it quickly became home thanks to the ALA community In late Fall of 2021 he happily joined the Patriots family as our Athletic Director Athletics and exceptional coaches played a crucial role in Jeff s character development and educational opportunities in his formative years so he understands that strong coaching plays a pivotal role in a student athlete s life and that great coaching can significantly impact an individual and a team Jeff has worked in various positions in Secondary Education for 15 years and his favorite aspect of the job is interacting with the students and being a part of their growth Jeff was a three sport athlete in high school football baseball basketball where he was named State MVP in baseball He also was the starting third baseman for the JUCO National Championship team at Dixie State College He has coached multiple state championship teams throughout his coaching career Jeff married his wife Kristina almost 18 years ago and they have 4 beautiful children in Kindergarten through 9th Grade If you can catch him standing still you ll recognize Coach O by his easy smile size and ability to leave every person and situation better than how he found them 19

2022 T HE FUT URE IS NOW ALA PATRIOTS FOOTBALL Varsity Football Coaches Head Coach Ty Detmer Ty Detmer was born in San Marcos Texas Ty attended Southwest High School where he earned Texas player of the Year Ty then went on to attend Brigham Young University where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1990 while playing quarterback at Brigham Young University He went on to play professionally in the National Football League for 14 seasons for 6 different teams Following his NFL career Detmer coached Texas high school football at St Andrews Episcopal School which is near Austin Texas He was the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at BYU from 2016 to 2017 Ty now is the Executive Director of Athletics for Charter One and oversees the athletic programs at the 3 American Leadership Academies in the east valley here in Arizona This will be his second season coaching at ALA Queen Creek Ty is married to Kim and together they have 4 daughters 2 sons in law and 2 grandchildren Defensive Coordinator James Verenski Coach Verenski known in some parts as the Angry South Pole Elf was born in Chatham Illinois and attended high school at Desert Vista where he played sniffer and outside linebacker for the Thunder He then went on to play at the collegiate level as a standout fullback at Black Hills State in South Dakota This will be Coach Verenski s 11th year as the defensive coordinator at American Leadership Academy where during his tenure he also has served as the Strength and Conditioning coach for the Physical Education Department and led the Wrestling Program as its head coach For over a decade Coach Verenski has focused relentlessly on improving the lives of the young men he coaches on the field and teaches and mentors off the field With his supportive wife Joleen Coach Verenski has four wonderful children Butch Rocky Duke and Danica Butch is a sophomore at ALA Queen Creek and a current player on the Patriot s varsity roster The Verenski s also have two English Bulldogs Lanta and Wyatt Off the field Coach Verenski can be seen working at the V35 ranch He also loves a good romantic comedy pina colada and getting caught in the rain More recently he has taken up scrapbooking documenting his many accomplishments with a touch of flair so he can pass them along to generations to come 20

2022 T HE FUT URE IS NOW ALA PATRIOTS FOOTBALL Varsity Football Coaches Offensive Coordinator Max Hall Max Hall grew up in Mesa Arizona where he attended Mountain View High School During his career as the quarterback for the Toros Max threw for 4 789 passing yards and 62 touchdowns His 5 257 all purpose yards a school record helped him earn first team all state honors named the All Arizona quarterback by The Arizona Republic East Valley Tribune state Offensive Player of the Year in 5A Mesa City Player of the Year and a finalist for the Ed Doherty Award presented annually to the state s top player Max led his team to a 27 1 record and a state championship in 2003 After Redshirting at ASU in 2004 Max served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Des Moines Iowa After returning home from his mission Max transferred to BYU and play for the Cougars At BYU he threw for 11 365 yards and 96 TD passes helping the Cougars win a Mountain West Conference Championship and 3 Bowl game appearances He ranks second all time at BYU in yards and TD passes only behind Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer Among other things Max was a five time MWC Offensive Player of the Week in 2009 and a top 15 finalist his junior year for the Heisman Trophy But Max is best known for being the winningest QB in BYU history with 32 career wins including a 2 1 record over Utah and a signature win over 3 Oklahoma A feat nearly as prolific as that of his brother in law and winningest tight end in BYU history Dennis Pitta who had 37 career wins at BYU In 2010 Hall signed as a free agent with the Arizona Cardinals On October 10 of that season Hall was named the starting quarterback for the Cardinals and won the first NFL game he started against the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints After this performance Hall was named the Pepsi Rookie of the Week for Week 5 Max would go on to start in 5 more games before injuries ended his career Off the field Max is passionate about helping as many people as possible who battle mental health and addiction To that end he started a weekly podcast Agents of Recovery No longer Victims of Addiction and more recently opened Victory an addiction Recovery center His goal is to create a team to support those that struggle along with their families and loved ones For more information or to help his cause go to victoryrecoveryaz org He is married to his wife McKinzi and has 2 children Rex and Hayden He and his wife co own Power Core Plus a Pilates studio in Gilbert and Mesa This will be Max s 8th year as the Offensive Coordinator at American Leadership Academy in Queen Creek 21

2022 THE FUTURE IS NOW ALA PATRIOTS FOOTBALL How To Cheer Like A PATRIOT On Kickoffs Make an insane amount of noise that builds as the team starts its advance to kick the ball The yell is a steady and growing oooooooOOOOOAAAHHHH when the ball is kicked On Offense Limit the noise BEFORE each play and let our boys hear the signal calls NO COW BELL during the huddle and before the snap After a big play though cheer loudly until the boys go back into the huddle On Defense Be loud Make tons of noise jump up and down ring those cow bells ruin those vocal chords Follow our spirit line as they lead us in chants of DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE Big Third and Fourth Downs on Defense Get Loud as soon as the opposing team huddles get the rest of the stadium to stand up and yell LOUD and together in a steady AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH past the snap of the ball After Each First Down The PA announcer calls out That s anoootherrrrrrr Patrioooooot and together the Bunker and the crowd yell FIRST DOWN at the top of their lungs while making the first down hand signal After a Touchdown First of all everyone goes crazy so don t hold back As soon as the extra point is made the band plays our Go Mighty Patriots fight song and our Spirit Line leads the crowd in singing the fight song At the end of the fight song we chant in unison GO RED GO BLUE A L A PATRIOTS PATRIOTS ALL THE WAY With fists pumping in the air Then the cheerleaders hold up the push up board while one brave cheerleader does push ups for every point scored Sometimes they will form a kick line and do a kick for each point Please join our spirit line in singing the fight song and cheering them on as they commemorate EVERY POINT scored by the Patriots 58

2022 THE FUTURE IS NOW ALA PATRIOTS FOOTBALL PATRIOT FAN SPORTSMANSHIP As our fight song declares here at ALA we encourage our players to play with COURAGE STRENGTH and DIGNITY As Patriot parents families and fans let s all do our part to cheer with COURAGE STRENGTH and DIGNITY too To help us do that here are a few suggested DO s and DON Ts during games Let s Go Patriots A FEW DO S DO participate in cheers and game traditions with our Spirit Line and the Bunker including dressing out for THEME nights It makes the experience so much better for all and shows unwavering support for our players and coaches on the field The 12th Man is a real thing DO make NOISE when our team is on defense or briefly after big plays on offense Remember you are at a football game not a formal meeting or church social It s OK to let loose and BE LOUD at the right times DO show respect for opposing players coaches spectators and support groups Welcome them to P Town and treat them as our guests Congratulate them on their strengths and good play DO stand at attention during our National Anthem remove any hats face the flag place hand over heart and remain quiet or sing the lyrics with respect and energy while the anthem is played DO display graciousness in victory and sportsmanship in defeat DO use cheers that are positive and supportive of our players DO show concern and respect for any player injuries Remain attentive and supportive while the training staff attends to the injured player DO accept the final calls made by the officials Allow our coaches to argue any questionable calls A FEW DON TS DON T be a back seat coach Never yell criticisms at individual players or coaches on the field or right after the game And remember the 24 HOUR RULE wait at least 24 hours after the game before giving any constructive criticism to players or coaches DON T ring cowbells or make excessive noise when our offense is in huddle or lining up to snap the ball DON T use profanity or display fits of anger that draw attention away from the game or potentially distract our players and coaches DON T criticize officials or display temper with their calls DON T blame any losses on officials coaches or team staff DON T engage in yells that deliberately antagonize an opponent or target an opposing player 59
