Celebration Day Our adventure begins with Thomas rushing out of the Ever Tree Hurry up Beamer he shouts We re going to be late Thomas races down the path toward Droz Castle His feet on the hard packed dirt as Beamer comes flying down from the branches above Why are we in such a hurry Beamer calls after his friend Because it s Celebration Day Thomas shouts

Okay I m hurrying I m hurrying Beamer replies with his wings a buzzing As they race toward the castle Thomas darts around a creaky old wagon that s in the middle of the road He leaps over a puddle Then he nearly bumps into a family that is also on their way to the castle Oops Excuse me Pardon me Sorry Thomas says to each and every one he nearly bumps into Beamer buzzes along behind Thomas He zips around the creaky old wagon and shoots up over the family As they get nearer and nearer the castle there are more wagons for Thomas to dart around More people for him to almost bump into Beamer avoids it all by following from above But he shouts down to everyone Excuse us We re running late again he says sometimes and other times Don t mind Thomas He s a bit clumsy Up ahead the castle walls rise up before them and the castle towers rise even higher into the sky In the tallest of the towers King Droz the ruler of Foreverland will be watching over today s festivities Thomas skids to a halt in front of the castle gates He stops so suddenly that Beamer actually does into him Now who s the clumsy one Thomas says with a laugh Sorry Beamer grins Thomas reaches into his pack and digs out two masks made of plant leaves He hands one to Beamer Thomas and Beamer have a long journey ahead Can you guide them to Castle Droz while avoiding the caravans in their way Start Finish

Before we go in put this on he says strapping on his mask But why Beamer asks So nobody will know who we are Thomas whispers But everybody can see us putting on the masks Beamer says motioning to the crowd of people lining up in front of the gates Thomas rolls his eyes Beamer please But a mask won t hide my wings Beamer says and then pointing to Thomas s shoulder he adds or your Childsheart Pendant Nobody has wings like me Beamer continues And only Princess Zor Just Put It On Thomas The Childsheart Pendant says I told King Droz we was a gift from King Droz would help entertain for It allows me to conjure up Celebration Day and the magic of Foreverland all the buskers wear Just wait until you see masks what it can do Me entertain Beamer asks as he straps on his mask I can t sing or dance You won t have to Thomas says as he pulls out three daggers from his pack We re going to juggle Those Beamer exclaims Thomas says with a wink Don t worry They aren t very sharp Beamer Thomas turns and heads through the castle gates If you poke a wing you ll be carrying me home Beamer yells as he buzzes after his friend Inside a large courtyard opens up before them and straight ahead is the castle keep Thomas sees the king on a balcony high up in the tallest tower Even from so far away he is an impressive figure standing tall and looking kingly in his royal robes Droz holds a gnarled staff with a gleaming black orb on top The Orb Staff and its magic gives him the power to rule over Foreverland Thomas waves and to his surprise the king waves back Well it s not really surprise that Thomas feels but rather a sense of awe The king is blind but the mysterious Orb Staff also gives Droz the ability to sense what is happening in the world around him Look at all the food Beamer says Thomas turns to see snack vendors lined up along one side of the courtyard His stomach grumbles as mouthwatering aromas waft over them I smell grilled fruit kabobs Thomas says licking his lips And they have fresh bread cheese Beamer says drooling On the other side of the courtyard is a row of vendors selling toys and trinkets Thomas sees kids playing with orb whistles which are small black balls attached to strings As they are whirled around and around overhead they give off a high pitched whistle Other children have flower tubes When a string is pulled at one end a large paper flower pops out the other end The courtyard is all abuzz for Celebration Day Some people eat their snacks and play with their toys Yet others watch the buskers Among the entertainers are magicians performing magic tricks and sword swallowers swallowing well what else swords In the middle of it all stands the 100 year Flower It is tall about half as tall as one of the castle towers

It could bloom at any moment Thomas tells Beamer Any moment that is exactly 100 years from the last moment it bloomed Beamer explains Thomas was not in Foreverland during the last Celebration Day But he had read in the Library of Knowledge that when the flower blooms its petals glow a brilliant orange and red somewhat like the flames of a fire Just then a little girl tugs on Thomas s shirt and asks Are you performers Thomas looks down at her and smiles telling her Yes yes we are What do you do the girl s slightly older sister asks We juggle Thomas says We do Beamer mumbles We do Thomas shouts We juggle these He holds up the daggers so that they glint in the sun Ooh the girls exclaim We want to see you juggle Thomas tosses one dagger spinning into the air then another and another They whirl up over his head As each one arcs down he grabs it by the hilt and flips it spinning into the air again Your turn Thomas shouts to Beamer The next dagger he flicks toward Beamer But instead of catching it Beamer buzzes to the side The dagger goes into the ground Oops missed Beamer says with a grin You didn t even try Thomas says continuing to juggle the other knives Beamer turns to the crowd that has gathered around them He just has bad aim Beamer says pretending to reach for the dagger See it s far too far away for me to catch Everyone in the crowd chuckles Okay Beamer Thomas says Maybe you can t sing or dance Or juggle Beamer interrupts Or juggle Thomas says But at least you can make people laugh Beamer bows and as he does he the ground He flips it to Thomas the dagger out of Everyone around them cheers as Thomas grabs the spinning dagger out of the air and continues to juggle Then he catches the knives one by one and finishes with a bow Thomas and Beamer receive a burst of applause As they are bowing and people are clapping the ground begins to shake Beamer looks over to Thomas and says Now that s some applause It s not applause Thomas says standing up He motions toward the center of the courtyard It s the 100 year Flower It s time Wow Look It s about to bloom From all corners of the courtyard come gasps of excitement The giant flower is quivering and shaking so hard that the ground is also starting to quiver and shake Thomas and Beamer watch as fiery red and orange petals burst from the top of the flower But what happens next is not at all what anyone in the courtyard would have expected Not Thomas nor Beamer Not King Droz high up in his tower And I bet not even you dear reader could have guessed what would happen
