CURRICULUM Aughnacloy College follows the Revised Curriculum of Northern Ireland The school prides itself in the excellent academic outcomes of the pupils and the extensive curriculum on offer at Key Stage 4 Level The curriculum incorporates a wide variety of both academic and vocational courses A broad range of subjects are offered at Key Stage 3 Level All pupils follow common areas of study The cross curricular skills of using mathematics using ICT and communication are developed and assessed across a range of subjects At Key Stage 4 a large range of courses are offered by Aughnacloy College in accordance with the Northern Ireland Entitlement Framework Most pupils take up GCSE courses where choice is more flexible than at Key Stage 3 Level General subjects can also be combined with vocational subjects A range of interactive and engaging teaching methods in conjunction with related educational trips workshops and practical activities are implemented throughout all years of study to create an enjoyable and inspiring teaching and learning environment at Aughnacloy College Those pupils opting to take up Occupational Studies at Key Stage 4 Level travel to SWC Dungannon campus one day per week to study courses which include catering beauty hairdressing brickwork digital video engineering or joinery Subjects offered at Key Stage 3 Art and Design Careers English French Geography History Home Economics ICT Digital Technology Learning for Life and Work Mathematics Music Physical Education Religious Education Science Technology and Design Aughnacloy College Prospectus 02 Subjects offered at Key Stage 4 include Agriculture Art and Design Business Studies Child Development Digital Technology Computer Programming English English Literature French Geography History Home Economics Learning for Life and Work Mathematics Motor Vehicle and Road User Studies Music Occupational Studies OCN ICT Personal Development and Employability Prince s Trust Physical Education Religious Education Science Single and Double Award Technology and Design To be confirmed Building The Future Together

CEIAG PASTORAL CARE C E I A G Careers Education Information and Guidance CEIAG classes in both Year 8 and 9 are taught within the Learning for Life and Work curriculum Employability is one of the core elements of this curriculum This allows pupils to undertake some self assessment career planning decision making and research into the world of work From Year 10 onwards CEAIG is a discreet subject on pupil timetables Preparation commences for life after Aughnacloy College in earnest with consideration given to local national and international job markets Throughout Key Stage 4 CEIAG lessons pupils become familiar with completing application forms and building a CV Interviews skills are developed and pupils in Year 12 have an interview with a dedicated Careers Service representative Guest speakers from industry schools offering A Levels further education colleges and organisations such as Sentinus NI are invited into school to inform pupils further on opportunities for the future Key Stage 4 pupils have the opportunity to follow a vocational pathway with our highly successful link with South West College as detailed within the curriculum information In the most recent ETI inspection the quality of the provision for careers education information advice and guidance was very good Pastoral Care At Aughnacloy College there is a great emphasis on the personal development of each child This begins with strong links to our Partner Primary Schools and is further developed through our Pastoral Care Programme Each year group has an associated Form Teacher and dedicated Senior Teacher responsible for Pastoral Care Positive attendance and behaviour is promoted and celebrated through an annual programme of rewards and incentives Form classes have allocated pastoral time with their Form Teachers where the Pastoral Care Programme is implemented Pupils are encouraged to integrate fully into their form class and school as a whole The Form Teacher is the first point of contact for any pupils and their parents who have any concerns Pupils are taught confidence building study and life skills Each pupil is allocated to a House in Year 8 and remains a member of that House during their time at school Pupils compete for the House Cup which is presented at Prize Night All pupils can earn points for their House by taking part in a range of competitions and events held throughout the school year Points are also awarded based on positive behaviour and attendance The House System promotes teamwork competition responsibility and allows pupils from different year groups to get to know and work alongside each other In the most recent ETI inspection the quality of the pastoral care was Outstanding The report stated the following The pupils spoke with enthusiasm about the individual care and support provided by their teachers The responses of parents who completed the confidential questionnaire indicated high levels of satisfaction with the work of the school The report stated the following The lessons are well planned are relevant to the pupils interests and aspirations are effective in enabling them to identify and explore a range of suitable career options and related progression pathways Aughnacloy College Prospectus 05 Building The Future Together

SEND SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND DISABILITIES ASSESSMENT REPORTING SEND Special Educational Needs and Disabilities At Aughnacloy College we are committed to encouraging all our pupils to make the most of their individual potential We recognise that many pupils will have additional learning needs in their school life which may create barriers to learning In addition to the core teaching staff classroom assistants help support our pupils in all areas of the curriculum In the last few years there has been a significant investment in assistive technologies to support students with additional learning needs Assessment and Reporting Incorporated into the learning process pupils are assessed throughout the school year with homework class assessments and project or practical work monitored Examinations and mock examinations at Key Stage 4 form an integral part of the assessment process Key Stage 3 pupils are examined in December and June with reports issued after examinations to show outcomes Parent meetings take place once a year for all year groups where parents can meet with teachers to discuss progress Aside from parent meetings parents are free to contact the school at any stage to arrange an appointment with a member of staff in order to address particular concerns Aughnacloy College Prospectus 06 Building The Future Together

FACILITIES AND EXTRA CURRICULAR T hree ICT suites with a wide range of technologies used to aid teaching and learning H igh speed WiFi with numerous WAP s providing access throughout the entire school building 7 5 4K ActivPanel Interactive Displays in every classroom A state of the art Technology and Design suite which includes a large practical workshop with a wide range of tools and machinery alongside a dedicated classroom area with a large number of networked computers A modern Home Economics suite with practical area and equipment T wo Science Laboratories A n Art Room with adjoining GCSE annex A modern Music Room with recording suite E nglish Department incorporating a Library Drama Area and several dedicated classrooms D isabled access facilities throughout the school W elcoming visitor reception area Extra Curricular The school provides a wide range of extra curricular activities Pupils are encouraged to actively participate in the wide range of extra curricular activities on offer at the College The majority of extra curricular activities are detailed overleaf within the sport section however many activities are available aside from sport Year 11 pupils regularly compete in the ABP Angus Youth Challenge competition Successful finalists are challenged to research farming and food production methods that can meet the changing needs of the marketplace with minimal impact on the environment In 2024 our team consisting of Jack and Alexander focused on sustainable farming and passing it on to future generations They were crowned overall winners and with that won some amazing prizes gained invaluable experience and banked 1000 for their school Extra curricular activities include Choir Computer Club Duke of Edinburgh Award Educational Trips Games Club Gardening Club Homework Club Language Trips Music Tuition via EA Scripture Union Aughnacloy College Prospectus 09 Building The Future Together
