HISTORY OF THE LANDAqua Fria was originally known as El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, which meant “royal road” or “king’s highway.” This was at one time the longest road in North America constructed from a network of indigenous footpaths and trade corridors. The roadway descended the Rio Grande Valley from north of Santa Fe, dropped through the natural doorway to El Paso and traveled its way via the provinces of the Viceroyalty of New Spain to Mexico City some twelve hundred miles to the south. El Camino Real represents over 300 years of Spanish history and the traditional entryway to Santa Fe.Well before El Camino Real, Ancestral Puebloan Villages occupied the Santa Fe River Valley. A nearby excavation in 1933-1934 revealed the architectural and spatial complexities of a village with a two-century-long history between the middle 1200s and early 1400s. This land was home to the creative Tewa people, one of the largest known black-on-white pottery pueblos in the greater Santa Fe area, who continue to live in the area today.

PET POLICY & CHARGES A Resident may have a maximum of two pets per household in accordance with the following guidelines:• First Pet Fee (nonrefundable): $300. Second Pet Fee (non-refundable): $200; combined total: $500 for 2 pets.• Monthly Pet Rent: $45.00 per pet.• All dogs will be required to participate in the community’s DNA Collection Program within 5 business days of move-in.• All dogs must be socially adjusted and positively respond to voice requests from their pet guardian.• Resident will be required to execute a Pet Addendum that includes always keeping dogs on a leash while outside on the premises.• Breed Restrictions: Wolf-hybrids and Presa Canario.
