LEARN WHERE YOU LIVE WHAT IS UNIV 100 UNIV 100 is a required 3 credit hour course designed to ensure that first time freshmen succeed in making the transition from high school to college are fully prepared to succeed in their academic courses and are aware of the multitude of resources available on campus UNIV 100 has two important segments Cajun Connection an extended introduction to UL Lafayette university life and academic work and the first day of the semester for all freshmen First Year Seminar a course that engages students and helps develop core skills like critical thinking information literacy and communication Students will choose a section of UNIV 100 based on a theme that interests them Course themes and descriptions are available on the OFYE website firstyear louisiana edu Living Learning Communities LLCs are residential communities for freshmen with a special emphasis on an academic major or area of interest Freshmen who participate have the unique experience of learning where they live while meeting friends with similar majors and interests They also enjoy special events specifically designed for their LLC transforming their residential setting into an active supportive and exciting place to live and learn Participation in an LLC is an academic year commitment Each LLC can have specific entrance requirements and spaces are limited in each community If an applicant meets the LLC requirements they will be accepted first come first serve based on the housing application date Students apply for an LLC when applying for housing COMMUNITIES Darwin biology Engineering Gateway to the Arts Honors Lifetime Recreation Nursing Service and Leadership Taste of Business Travel Language and Culture firstyear louisiana edu llc PEER MENTORS ARE HERE TO HELP WITH SUCCESS Coming to a new place can be difficult but Peer Mentors are here to make the transition to UL Lafayette easier than you can imagine The Peer Mentor program assigns an upperclassman to each First Year Seminar section Freshmen will meet their Peer Mentor on the first day of UNIV 100 Peer Mentors love what they do Their job is to help freshmen with any challenges in their first semester like finding the best way to classes choosing the best place to study figuring out how to get involved at UL and much more Peer Mentors also help the UNIV 100 instructor by being a class facilitator leading class discussions and contributing personal experiences to the class
