Lawrence Sharp, Jr. Since joining the Rotary in 1993, Lawrence has served the club at all levels. In 1996, Lawrence was elected President for the first time. He would go on to serve as president on four separate occasions across both the South DeKalb Chapter and Emory Druid Hills Chapter. Under his prior leadership, the South Dekalb chapter started with 17 members and grew to 40. While serving back-to-back terms as president of the South DeKalb Chapter, Lawrence led an event to distribute over 20,000 masks to schools during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In October 2022, Lawrence transferred his leadership to the Rotary Club of Decatur, where he actively recruits members. In Spring 2023, Lawrence won a membership contest by recruiting the most new members. He has recruited 20 new members within the last 3 years alone. He is a consistent innovator always providing club leadership with ideas on how to recruit and retain members. Lawrence’s Rotary involvement also includes participating on the STAR Student Award luncheon committee for the thirty students in DeKalb County who earned the highest SAT scores and volunteering for the MLK Jr. Service Project to repair and update a home in Decatur, Georgia two years in a row. In addition, Lawrence is a skilled fundraiser, raising money for the Rotary Foundation’s key initiatives. After serving as a Vice Chairman of the DeKalb Rotary Council (2022 - 2023), Lawrence is currently serving as Chairman of the DeKalb Rotary Council (2023 - 2024). Lawrence is the Broker/Owner of Lawrence Sharp Realtors LLC and has over 40 years of real estate experience, both residential and commercial, serving the metro Atlanta area. He brings his skills in relationship building, leadership, and marketing to any endeavor he is involved with. He serves on the Jacksonville State University Foundation Board and formerly served as chairman of the South DeKalb Academy YMCA for 7 years as well as previously being a board member of East Lake YMCA (in charge of membership). Lawrence is a member and Board Member of the Atlanta Business League (Co-Chair of Membership), the Atlanta Board of Realtors, Atlanta Commercial Realtors, Dekalb Association of Realtors, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Life Member), and St. Phillip AME Church. Lawrence enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Rhoda K. Sharp, daughter, Riane N. Sharp, Esq., and his grand-dogson, Bolt. He also enjoys reading, running, walking, and going to golf and tennis tournaments.
