served as an Eagle Scout all throughout high school so I firmly believe in giving back because it s the right thing to do But when you re a part of the community and have their support you re more passionate about giving back so you can help others the way that community helped you Grad Year 2024 Major Minor Undeclared Hometown Temperance MI Noah Bock is one of those students impacted by donor support like yours and this is his story how he s giving back to his community in honor of the support he s received U M has exposed me to all kinds of opportunities to try new things while doing some really important work within and on behalf of the Michigan community Noah admits that he was a Michigan State basketball and football fan growing up but when it came to his dreams for college he always wanted to attend the University of Michigan he just knew it was the right fit for him and the path he wanted to pursue But considering his financial situation he wasn t sure it would ever happen until he received his scholarship from the U M Club of Greater Detroit I joined the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity and participated in a build day to give back I am also really involved at the St Mary Student Parish Last year I went on an alternative summer break service trip where we spent a week in rural Kentucky with a local family fixing their house and learning about their life experiences I would not be a Michigan Wolverine had it not been for this scholarship Thanks to your support it was possible to attend the school that best suited my needs which has helped me take the next steps towards my professional goals and given me more opportunities to pursue my other passions The second I received this scholarship I was welcomed into the community by becoming a member of the Detroit Club Scholar s Society at the University of Michigan I ve had the chance to interact with other students who received the scholarship and members of the Alumni Association through social events scavenger hunts game nights and other community building events I ve also been 18 Coming to U M was my dream and I would not have been able to follow that dream without your support paired with an alumni mentor who has provided valuable advice and support in striving to reach my personal and professional goals Not having to worry as much about the financial costs of attending school allows me to participate in other activities that I might not have had time to pursue otherwise meaningful things like public service Professionally I am working towards attending law school and hope to work on Capitol Hill before graduating in 2024 I was accepted into the Public Service Intern Program PSIP a support network that helps students apply for internships in Washington D C and in 2022 I will begin my first public service internship This is all possible because of you Coming to U M was my dream and I would not have been able to follow that dream without your support This scholarship has opened up opportunities that are helping me take the next step on my journey towards what I want to do in life It doesn t feel like enough just to say thank you but sometimes those words have power So thank you Giving back with Wolverines for Wolverines Alumni Volunteer offered 256 volunteer opportunities through 21 participating units across all 3 campuses resulting in 839 volunteer connections
