AALA/TEAMSTERS LOCAL 2010NEWSLETTER2 3JULY 28, 2025JULY 28, 2025WE STAND AND DELIVER! STAND BY US LAUSD!Welcome back B-Basis colleagues! We are now all onboard and ready to have a smooth 2025 opening. I hope you have had some time to rest, recharge, and reboot for the year ahead. I enthusiastically echo the Superintendent’s sentiments shared at the 2025-2026 Opening of Schools Address. The academic gains surpassing expectations is a true testament to our collective efforts to do right by our students. Thank you to each and every AALA/Teamsters Local 2010 member. Your commitment and dedication contributed to this success. You are witnesses to the aftermath of the tragic fires, destroyed schools, and homes lost. We are still with you as we rise from the ashes together. We have stood together ready to help bring back some normalcy into their lives. You have also stood by so many families torn apart or forced into hiding as a result of the ICE raids. These incidents will have a long lasting and scarring effect on us all. We will be there to uplift and encourage those impacted. We will remind them through hard work and determination anything is possible. It goes without saying you are always willing to support students and families with additional programs to enhance the school experience. Many of you sacrificed summer vacations to supervise a summer school program. I sent out a survey last week (insert link here). Below are some key highlights: • Actual in-seat enrollment was lower than the actual projected enrollment• 60% of survey respondents indicated the District provided sufficient support prior to the start of the summer school assignment• Overwhelmingly, 66% of respondents stated they had issues with MISIS• Campus aide support was the highest form of additional staff provided• 70% of survey respondents reported staying between 1-2 hours after the summer session day ended• Over 80% of survey respondents reported that region staff were readily available when contacted• Almost 70% of respondents agreed their summer school assignment was joyful and full of wellness• 48% of respondents stated they would apply to work the following summerThe overall experience for most was positive. I challenge the district to pay our members for every minute worked and not to nickel and dime our members next year. I also urge the district to keep the promises they make: If you offer to have an extra administrator to manage an additional program, then do so! I thank summer school service for responding to the survey. While I mirror much of the Superintendent’s sentiments, and admire your relentless work ethic to do the right thing, we must continue to raise our voices for our own well being. This year has shown me when we agitate change happens. I urge us to reject budget cuts and denounce any attempt at attacking our health benefits.DELIVER – PAGE 3DELIVERFROM PAGE 2Superintendent Carvalho so eloquently shared all the wonderful programs for our students: video production, culinary programs, partnerships with the port and airport, a swim ready program, more dual language programs, I Matter campaign to name a few. No one will argue they are all valuable and inspiring and will bring tremendous benefits to students. In advance, I want to thank all those administrators and managers having a hand in making sure these programs are successfully implemented. This will require additional work. I sincerely hope the same commitment the Superintendent has extended to our students and families is extended to the movers and shakers that make these programs happen. All we ask is if extra work hours are required, then pay us our earned EDP and grant flexible time. The money is there. We cannot continue to do more with less. I remain steadfast in my commitment to improving our untenable working conditions. Superintendent Carvalho “We Are Not Backing Down” either. We will meet you at every turn with an unfair labor practice. We continue challenging you to do what is right for our members. You so fervently asked us to “Stand with the District.” I dare say we have been doing this all along. Can all the successes you lauded be accomplished without us standing by your side? The pillars are crushing us despite having the unprecedented academic gains. Yes, Superintendent Carvalho we will CONTINUE to stand by the strategic plan and continue to serve with heart. We will continue to inspire the greatness you so passionately referenced and continue to further advocate for fair and just working conditions. Show us you will stand more with us. Listen to us. Work with us side-by-side. May this year be filled with much hope, dignity and respect. May the work each and everyone of you do improve our gains and strengthen our efforts for a brighter and better future. In solidarity,Maria
