December 13 2019 KEEPING ON THE MOUNTAIN At the beginning of this week s parsha Yaakov Avinu informs Eisav I have dwelt with Lavan and delayed my return to Eretz Yisrael until now Rashi quoting Chazal states Yaakov was implying that although he lived in the house of Lavan for so many years the corrupt environment didn t influence him He maintained his commitment to all of Taryag Mitzvos and did not absorb any of Lavan s bad behaviors Rav Ruderman ztz l the Rosh Yeshiva of Ner Yisrael notes that the Rashi appears to be redundant If Yaakov kept all Taryag Mitzvos he most certainly didn t adopt Lavan s behaviors Lavan s lifestyle was a direct violation of the Torah Clearly explained the Rosh Yeshiva it is possible for a person to be meticulous in his Mitzvah observance yet still emulate the lifestyle of a Lavan One can be a while adopting the corrupted value system of society When that happens mitzvah observance although performed 3 54 PM devolves into mechanical and meaningless activities One of the prominent Roshei Yeshiva of this generation defines this struggle with the possuk in Tehillim who will ascend the mountain of Hashem and who will stand in His holy place Years ago he explained the challenge was convincing Yidden to ascend the mountain So many Jews fell prey to assimilation and desired nothing more than to become part of American society Today B H Orthodoxy has grown and our battle is keeping our children on the mountain retaining a commitment of depth to authentic Torah living Yaakov was informing Eisav that he had overcome the challenge Not only had he ascended the mount remained meticulous in his mitzvah performance he was still on the mountain His value system and attitudes were unaffected and untainted by any outer influence Motzei Shabbos Dec 21 Torah Academy Gala Auction Dec 23 24 25 4pm dismissal grades 4 8B no aftercare Dec 26 12 00 noon dismissal for Chanukah break Dec 27 30 Chanukah break no school The bulletin is sponsored in honor of our mechanchim and educators by Rabbi Ochs Chanukah excitement is in the air Preschool classes are gearing up for Chanukah shows next week All the students are learning about the yom tov and its history Songs are ringing in the air The boys and girls in the elementary school are preparing for Chanukah mesibos and talent shows Today the Hamilton Building was alive with excitement for the first grade girls Mesibas Chumash The girls performed songs that included stories of the who were supported and were dedicated to the of our The girls costumes enhanced the production Rabbi Ochs gave a charge to the girls and then presented each girl with her first Thank to Morah Linda Nussbaum for going above and beyond preparing the music Thank you Mrs Youshei and her assistant Mrs Goldman for this special presentation and for preparing the girls to learn the Heiligge Torah Thank you to Mr Adam Grossman friend of Torah Academy presenting during the 6th Grade Club Hour about Compound Interest Reminder Preschool registration is now open for 2019 2020 An application is included in the bulletin
