Gaming For Honor Game Review The gameplay itself when it worked was actually smooth and the game overall was very polished but the problem lies with the servers and matchmaking Since the release of the game player numbers declined rapidly due to connection issues Ubisoft made a huge mistake when implementing peer to peer networking in this game because that was for many people the main if not sole reason to quit playing In my personal experience when I have initially tried out the game when I attempted to play multiplayer I would be kicked from the current session due to a connection error around 3 out of 4 games joined within 3 minutes and those that lasted till the end couldn t be enjoyed to the fullest because I was on edge with every bit of lag that occurred throughout the game wary of the possibility that I could end my current session at any time The servers have improved quite a bit since release but not enough to bring players back because first impressions matter F or Honor is an online medieval style fighting game developed by Ubisoft where players choose between different warrior characters from different factions to battle against other players from around the world For Honor has simple game modes including Dominion where you win by capturing and holding points on a map 1v1s and 2v2s and some other similar modes only varying in team sizes and little changes to gameplay such as buffs The simple concept of a fighting game set in the medieval When the game ran smoothly however the gameplay was enjoyable to say the least In fact it was addictive Every kill was incredibly satisfying and the game kept you tense as both teams struggle for the win and winning was always both happy and a relief You level each character separately by playing them and the more you play a character the more gear you can unlock for them like new weapons or armor all varying in both aesthetics and stats like revive speed or just attack If the game ran smoothly all the time it would definitely have a much larger player base because the core game is actually good Its just a letdown that the network issues are so prominent that the game at times becomes unplayable For Honor has a great potential but too many issues to reach it to the fullest The game could be an 8 5 10 but considering its flaws it just cant get anything higher than a 7 times in which you could pick either a samurai Viking or knight definitely sparked many people attention especially knowing the game has been in development for 5 years beforehand Rating 7 10 Ar cle by Kacper Dawidowicz 17 03

TECH Apple Homepod At the beginning of this week Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled competition for Google s successful google home with built in Alexa This has got Apple customers excited for the new release of the Homepod later this year This new speaker from Apple is said to bring down the house as it consists of seven tweeters arranged in a circular package for three hundred and sixty degree sound along with a high excursion woofer for lower frequency sounds Tim Cook also proudly announced that he has implicated its iPhone six A8 chip into its design This is in order to achieve maximum sound quality and to control its seven precision beam forming tweeters individually in order to make the most of the space the speaker has around it This allows the speaker to become spatially aware and know its surroundings and also be able to work in sync with another Homepod in the room musicologist for the Homepod The Homepod is said to have the Hey Siri function built in and is rumoured to be able to hear you even when the music is on full blast This is of course thanks to the Homepod s A8 chip and six beam forming microphones that know wherever you are in the room Siri has also had an impressive update that uses machine learning to allow his voice to sound more realistic and to understand the user s preferences Tim Cook also mentioned that Siri also has other features to wow the customers of Apple Inc Although Apple as usual have set the price quite high for the Homepod coming in later this year at 350 Once again Apple and their design team have raised the bar giving their opponents more competition Ar cle by Ethan Keen 15 But what about Alexa Apple has concentrated its thought towards making the Homepod have smart features in order to produce the highest quality sound but what about its competitors primary feature Alexa Apple has indeed thought about this problem and has integrated Apple s trademark voice assistant Siri He has been seamlessly connected to Apple music in order for Siri to be transformed into the ideal 06

TECH What is Wanna Cry W hen I was in school on a Friday of 14th of May my programming teacher showed me something interesting he showed me that the NHS has been hacked by some activist group with their so called new virus called the Wanna Cry A full month has passed and I think that now is the time to break the virus down and talk about it a certain time limit to pay up and unlock your decrypted files when the timer expires the price demanded doubles The starting price was from 300 to 600 dollars via bitcoin What makes the situation even harder is that the value of bitcoin goes up every day and at the end of every day you must pay more than in the beginning The attack itself left hospitals in the mud as workers couldn t access the data of their patients This meant that they needed to start everything from scratch Even some hospitals started writing down the details of their patients by hand on papers Of course this wasn t the best solution of all but it was working How can you remove it Not by paying the ransom that s for sure Security experts point out that some antivirus software can catch the Wanna Decryptor virus This particular ransomware is correctly identified and blocked by 30 of the AV vendors using current virus definitions It is correctly handled by both Kaspersky and Bitdefender said Phil Richards the CISCO at Ivanti Why was the NHS attacked How does it work The Wanna Cry virus or known as the decryptor or cry in general has been a huge issue throughout the whole world but one of the biggest cyberattacks that stand out is the attack on NHS This cyberattack targeted computers running with Microsoft Windows operating systems by encrypting data and demanding ransom payment in the Bitcoin cryptocurrency The malware is delivered as a Trojan through a loaded hyperlink that can be accidentally opened by the victim through an email advert on a webpage or a Dropbox link Once it has been activated the program spreads through the computer and locks all the files with the same encryption used for instant messages Once the files have been encrypted it deletes the originals and delivers a ransom note in the form of a readme file It also changes the victim s wallpaper to a message demanding payment to return the files The virus gives you Early reports suggest this was a speculative attack rather than a targeted one The attackers reportedly asking for 300 to free up the system files which seems to be on the low side An internal investigation is currently taking place but the source of the intrusion could simply be an accidental phishing attack that hit its mark To end this article my advice would be to all computer users is that to always check for regular updates As annoying as they sound and are we shouldn t underestimate what a single Microsoft Windows update can do to prevent attacks on your personal computers Get yourself a good antivirus software which would can defend and identifying Wanna Cry ransomware I would highly recommend MacAfee TotalAV Avast Ar cle by Domantas Stankevi ious 17 07

HISTORY Thetford Priory History of the Priory T hetford Priory is a monastic house in Norfolk England It was founded in 1103 by Roger Bigod 1st Earl of Norfolk In the 13th Century the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared in a vision to the locals of Thetford requesting the addition to the site of a Lady Chapel It housed the tombs of the Howard dynasty and its ruins can still be seen today The Priory of Our Lady of Thetford was one of the largest and most important monasteries in East Anglia For 400 years it was the burial place of Earls and Dukes of Norfolk and enjoyed their powerful protection It was because of this that Thetford was one of the last monasteries to be suppressed when it surrendered Henry VIIIs commissioners in 1540 The extensive surviving remains include the lower walls of the church and cloister together with the impressive shell of the priors lodging and an almost complete 14th Century gatehouse Thetford Priory from the air nowadays walked through the area A few moments later a monk who was said to be wearing sandals and a chain belt ran past them The teenagers screamed and ran back to town Origins The essential plan of the monastery was established by the founder Roger Bigod who was a close associate of William the Conqueror Work on the church began in 1107 and the east end was complete around 1114 However the nave was not completed for another 60 years In 1114 work was sufficiently advanced for the community of monks to enter their new home The Priory before the suppression From the mid 13th Century the Priory Church was home to a miracle working statue of the Virgin which became popular object of pilgrimage The cult brought considerable financial reward to the Priory and before the end of the Century the whole east end of the Church was rebuilt on a more elaborate scale An impressive new gatehouse was built in the 14th Century The suppression and after Aerial reconstruction drawing of Thetford Priory from the north west showing how it may have looked in 1540 When in 1536 the priory was threatened with suppression the 3rd Duke of Norfolk petitioned Henry VIII to convert it into a college of secular canons The priory continued to be a house for another 200 years However by around the 1820s Thetford Priory was a roofless ruin It is a wonderful part of our pretty town of Thetford Is the Priory haunted Thetford Priory is said to be haunted its mostly haunted by monks who visited the Priory The monks could be heard singing in Latin in the ruins of the Priory In 1992 a group of nine teenagers walking through the grounds heard the sound of jangling of chains or keys as they Ar cle by Jack Jenkins 15 09

HEALTH WELLBEING Teen Mental Health Crisis F or this month s issue we have decided to raise awareness about youth mental health On the contrary to popular belief young people s quality of life has been improving All the campaigns and ads to reduce the drinking smoking and drug taking are effectively reducing the substance misuse all over the nation and although we should continue to press for these campaigns to continue these are no longer the most pressing concerns Not even teen pregnancies and all the concerns that it raises are at the top of the list anymore Now this cannot be an excuse to cut any slack on the matters mentioned before but teen mental health is taking the lead this time Perhaps it was so easily allowed to mental health problems among young people It is obvious that whilst in the past before items such as mobile phones computers game consoles and internet became an everyday necessity information was much limited to society and young people were less pressed to keep up to date information and whilst before peer pressure was something that you would counteract with personal interaction today young people are bombarded by information by the second to their mobile phones and various devices available So peer and society demands are constantly keeping young people under pressure I m not saying that there is such a thing as too much information but like everything in our lives we learn slowly how to build up tolerance to both positive or negative things Young people are equipped for success more than ever The evidence is on the leap of technology of the last decades and the capacity of the younger generation to respond to it Depression anxiety anorexia self harm diabulimia bulimia body dysmorphia binge eating disorders are all a part of the Mental Health issue spectrum that derives directly from the lack of willingness to deal with very important matters Young people are the future of our society The issues mentioned above have a great impact on the productivity of our economy as well as the physical health implications it creates on those that are directly or indirectly affected We must be more supportive of each other as well as implementing a set of actions to slow down this disease Ar cle by Ana Margarida 15 reach epidemic proportions because it is very easily confused with the troubles of growing into adulthood The rates of depression anxiety eating disorders among teenagers have increased by over 70 per cent in the past two decades This should be compared to the lifestyle changes that our societies have made over the last two to three decades and perhaps support young people through these changes I would suggest further and compare the various ways of life around the globe and learn from good practice from those nations with lower rate of 21

INTERVIEWS A I can take inspiration from anything most of the time you hear a lot of songs nowadays where it will be kind of RnB and it doesn t have meaning there s no depth to it whatsoever which I don t like I kind of always thought that a song should have a meaning behind it or at least a bit of meaning and depth to it So a lot of the time it s about love Gentleman was written about a relationship which I was in and it didn t go well and that kind of in turn led me to it was my first proper one I guess you could say where I was like distinctly feeling that heartache and then I just remember trying to find a way to get the emotion out and I wrote Gentleman which then went on to be a good song I guess you could say Q What s your best moment as a performer in your career A Dressing up as Batman and busking for children with cancer that has to be by far my most favourite thing purely because I made a complete idiot out of myself but it was just so spontaneous and kind of out there I did it with a few people and Alton Wahlberg one of them and we were going into town and they had a spare Batman costume and I was just like Yes it s meant to be So I dressed up as Batman and busked in town and that was the first time I ve ever busked and I guess it was a way to get rid of my nerves completely because I was like if I can dress up as Batman and just randomly sing in front of people I can do anything it s fine Q What about your worst moment A My worst moment so far has been well I have a strap on my guitar just like any other guitar but the bottom part of it is really loose and is now temporarily kind of held in but it was it kept slipping out during whenever I d be writing a song or practicing and I used to always think to myself god it would be awful if it happened in a gig and lord and behold I was playing one of my songs called Trigger which is different to every other one of mine because it s a very hard kind of heavy acoustic almost a bit like Rock y type music just without the rock More like Acoustic Rock there we go and the chorus is just hitting down on every string I was halfway through the song in a pub and it s one of those pubs where people were drinking there and they just like you know when they re like listening but not really paying attention So I was like cool I ll just keep going and my strap just completely dropped guitar slammed on the ground Everybody who didn t care went completely silent and just stared at me and it was that moment for me where I was like Open up and eat me world just take me and ironically what happened after that is I knew someone who was there and I was like Can I borrow your guitar please and then I started again That was the most crushing moment and whenever I mess up on a chord because it does happen but it s just about not making a big deal out of it and If you do you start crying It was just crushing especially when everyone s looking at you and it s like what am I meant to do in this situation The guitar is sprawled across and because it was plugged into an amp it made the worst sound known to man it was just like a dying cat and I was like Oh god please just open up and eat me but they liked it afterwards and everybody liked my music which is always a good sign it tends to help B en Wheatley is an upcoming musician locally based in Thetford that has recently attracted attention of the public for his growing talent The Youth Gossip team caught up with him to get a little insight into some of the facts that the public doesn t know about Ben yet We are lucky enough to have Ben as our colleague volunteer at Inspire Focus so in many ways we are very fortunate to enjoy Ben s fantastic enthusiasm as well as his amazing composing and singing skills Q So onto the first question how did you get interested in music A Well I ve always listened to music I think everybody does as a kid and growing up but really it started when I was 14 and I picked up the guitar and then that was about it really I was just like that would be cool to learn and so I did and basically just went from there and self taught it because who needs lessons when you can just learn off YouTube Q Alright so how long have you been singing for A Oh well singing I ve been singing for a year and a half because I ve self taught for six months I want to say around that time but I mean after that I just started to write my first song which was awful that s another thing it s that I love it when people are like its fine you know you can just do that because you just write songs That is not how it works at all like the first song I wrote was called Painkiller and I can distinctly remember it and that actually was the first song I posted which was called I m Sorry and it was just the most cringeworthy thing ever but I started to sing through that and I developed my own style and vocal range you could say Q So as you said you write your own songs where do you think your inspiration comes from 22

Page 23

INTERVIEWS Q Okay what are your aspirations for the future A Not to be homeless Nah my aspirations for the future I d love to just continue with music and at the end of the day it s one of those things where you never really expect anything to come out if it When I started music I never went to myself like I know I m going to become this or that I m going to go on radio or play here or do that but it s kind of just different events which helped me keep going and keep pursuing and it s something that I love I don t do it to get famous or get this or get that it s more just for my own personal sake like when I have a breakup or something like that really just helps me get everything out and in turn the reason why I post that is because most of my songs are written about love and because it s such a wide topic I think that when I write the song and think Wow this has probably happened to other people posting it then it turn can help them think Yeah he doesn t treat her like a gentleman or something like that Regarding aspirations I d love to maybe one day be signed or just to play a massive venue play somewhere big and keep doing what I m doing My main aspiration in life is just to be happy though it s a good idea Q Who do you compare your musical style to A Oh god musical style wise so regarding writing songs I draw a lot of inspiration from Frank Sinatra era type going back to making it kind of have a meaning have a depth to it Sure you can say Ed Sheeran Shawn Mendes and all of that but they re kind of your go to ones Nathan Grisdale is one person who I listen to and just his voice and his kind of songs are amazing I ve listened to some of them and then went on to write my own songs like wow you know inspiration came from him but just all over really I guess If I had to compare it would be close to that acoustic side of things but more soulful when it comes to the writing style Q Speaking of which who is your favourite artist A Who is my favourite artist See that s a hard one Nathan Grisdale I love him Ed Sheeran Shawn Mendes they re kind of go to people I already know I love them Regarding my music s I ve got such a range Frank Sinatra like I said is one of my favourite artists His voice and the conviction of which he sings with is just amazing So yeah Frank Sinatra would be one of my favourite artists Q When and where are your next performances A Okay so depending on when this goes up My next performance while recording this is this coming Sunday where I am performing in the middle of Thetford for a market and then I m playing for a pub later I m playing Slam on the 1st of June in Norwich at the garage and then on the 2nd of June I have an acoustic night here at the Charles Burrell Centre so yeah come along if you want to see me and say Hi Turn the page for more 23

INTERVIEWS The Manchester attacks are truly tragic and my condolences go out to all the fans and anybody who was injured or lost in the attacks My main thing would be to stay strong and stand together because if we do that then we ll be fine That s some good words we wish you loads of success and a great career Keep your eyes on Ben we are pretty sure that he will go far Q Do you have any rituals before performing on stage A None whatsoever I have no idea why some people do Like if you ve seen Wolf of Wall Street where they just hit their chest and hum none whatsoever I ll drink some water and have a sound check practice the song and then I ll just go for it I guess if I ever had a ritual If I m ever nervous I m like you re going to be fine and just count down from 5 and start playing which I guess you could call it a ritual but it s one of them kind of things that s like if I count down from 5 and just do it it doesn t give your mind time to think about what will happen because you tend to overthink it especially if you just stare at a bunch of people and they just look at you like what s the weirdo doing on stage yeah Q Tell us something about yourself that your fans do not know yet A I could say I m a clich but that s already firmly implemented I do a lot of fitness I really enjoy doing fitness and stuff around that depending If you can edit this post and throw a photo up that would be great I do a lot of fitness and I m a lifeguard so there are two things that you don t know about me I don t know unless you are a stalker in which case Hey So In light of the latest Manchester events as an upcoming musician is there anything you would like to say to the young fans 24

INTERVIEWS Mayor of Thetford services such as activities and events for the youth in Thetford A Right my first opinion is we don t have enough for our youth to do Thetford Town Council has a 40 000 fund for youth work and we re not utilising it properly so we need to really work harder to get out and do it This organisation is very inspiring it s a very good title because you work with all the youth of Thetford and we need to push this idea out for the rest and also to push things like we have a tennis academy in the grounds of King s House gardens which we don t publish enough about and that works with the youth so it s a matter of I think the council should be working to get the knowledge of all the youth organisations around to all the people of Thetford so that we know because one of the biggest complaints we have is there is nothing for the youth to do in Thetford and that s not quite right is it It s just we haven t pushed it out as far as we need to On May of this year Mr Denis Crawford took over the tough job of Mayor of Thetford for the year of 2017 18 We were fortunate enough to get a bit out of his busy schedule He visited The Inspire Focus and Youth Gossip facilities and was kind enough to allow us an interview The crew was full of enthusiasm to listen what the newly elected Mayor Denis Crawford had to say Q Speaking of which our project is aimed at getting young people better prospects and getting skills through volunteering what do you think about what our youth organisation does and do you think that there is a need for more services such as ours A Yes there is a need for more and also for you to help you to grow in the confidence From what I learned here today I am very proud that this organisation exists but we need to get it out there so the youth of Thetford know about it Through the things you are doing it s going to help your careers in the future but it s also going to give you something to work for in your community and I think it s fantastic the things you are doing for your community Q So tell us a bit about yourself A I was originally born in America Baltimore but I ve spent almost all my life in Britain and I came up from London with the London overspill in 1972 and I work here now I worked for the American government originally and then I decided that if I m going to live here then I might as well come and work for the local economy Q Mr Denis Crawford the Inspire Focus team is going to consult with the local community about creating a full media hub with a community radio music and recording studio This is to provide young people opportunities and even adults with training in the digital industry Ultimately do you think this is something needed in Thetford and as a Mayor what do you think about it Q How did you get into politics and what inspired you to do it A Ah now politics is an interesting thing I got inspired into politics because mostly because of the European Union and the fear that they were getting a little bit too political for me Originally I was a big supporter of the European Union when it was a trade organisation and a cultural one but I didn t like the way it was going so I did get into politics mostly the European Union and also to see If I could add something back to my community A Yes it is needed I am a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to working on the internet and everything I do Facebook I m sadly lacking in skills in this level and I think when you get a 5 year old coming in and doing your work for you on the computer because you don t know what s going on it s sad So I do think we do need to keep spreading the word and we also need to work with the older people sometimes and maybe you people could give us a hand on it too Q How does being a Mayor differ from your usual duties A The Mayor in Thetford has very little extra power it is a civic event and I spend most of my time going around telling good things about Thetford and we ve got an organisation unofficially called The Chain Gang and that s all the Mayors and Deputy Mayors from all the towns because they wear chains we just call them The Chain Gang so it s a bit of an interesting thing I m more of an ambassador for Thetford than anything else It was a great pleasure to have our newly appointed Mayor He proved to be open to work with everybody without exceptions and it will be a pleasure to work with him especially during this next year where he will be the mayor of our great town This town has more than the eye can see and it s uplifting to know we re being led by someone with the same interests as ours and is willing to work with everybody Q What are your biggest hopes for the following year as a Mayor A My biggest hopes are that the diverse communities can all come together and try to get everybody working together we all need to keep our identities but we all need to work together so that s it I m mostly concerned about the diverse communities we have and we don t seem to work together as close as we can Ar cle by Jair Ribeiro 17 Q As a youth local organisation we would like to hear your opinion on young people and the provision of Kevin Barreto 17 25

CULTURE Films explained during the introduction of The Mummy about the background of the characters and where they originated from one negative point is that it is all over the place and it gets confusing at times One of the best aspects of the movie is that there is a perfect balance between still and action scenes so that the viewer doesn t get bored too easily but also doesn t get bombarded with explosions or tense scenes constantly An example of this can be seen near the middle of the film where Nick is faced with many challenges whilst running from Ahmanet but after there is a gap of time where Henry The lead scientist for the Prodigium program drops in more information on the past and how to defeat the antagonist This is a reoccurring theme and is amongst other elements that saved this film from being classed as a rubbish reboot When it comes to the visual effects I believe that the studio did a brilliant job on both creating the old Egyptian setting and handling the largely CGI d scenes decently Rating 7 10 T he Mummy is an action adventure reboot of the 1999 movie The Mummy released on 22 May 2017 and directed by Alex Kurtzman The plot follows Nick Morton a soldier in modern Iraq that searches for antiques and relics with his companion Chris Vail When the pair happens to come across the tomb of Ahmanet joined by the archeologist ex Jenny Halsey and accidentally release the ancient princess Nick is cursed and is set to stop Ahmanet as she rages through London looking to finish her sacrifice to summon the god of death The rebooted franchise has returned with a 174 million gross from a 124 million budget film that is filled with intense action scenes throughout the duration of the two hours The plot is briefly 28

Films CULTURE Johnson s charisma and personality on screen Overall the film wasn t a completely unsuccessful yet there was room for improvement and the budget given was a bit over the top Other than the technical review it was very enjoyable and entertaining For this reason I am personally rating Baywatch a below average score rating B aywatch is a Drama Action movie directed by Seth Gordon It was produced by Paramount Pictures and released 29th of May 2017 When former Olympian Matt Brody tries to join the elite team of lifeguards led by Mitch Buchannon Brody believes he has a free pass into the group but Mitch seems to disagree When drugs and murder are brought into the bay they have to work together to prevent crime from affecting their beach Rating 6 10 Being one of two reboots in the May June box office Baywatch faced tough competition with other hits in the theatres like Wonder Woman or the leftover excitement of the successful Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 The action packed comedy is based on two factors Bodies and Over 18 jokes Showing abs muscles and skin tight swimsuits is a reoccurring theme when it comes to Baywatch Usually action comedies do not go over the margin of 30 million for the production budget otherwise they d be entering dangerous waters Other than special effects and action scenes the rest of the Baywatch movie is the production value of a sit com The CGI in the series reboot is clearly viewable by the audience in water and in really cinematic shots There was an exaggeration of immature jokes that were both sexual and unpleasant at some points such as the vomit joke that was over emphasized for Matt s character The plot of the story was too basic and simple a build up of the tense story a sad and un motivating moment for one of the main characters a climax where the villain dies and a happy ending It was too much of a clich which dragged the film down a little Other than that the visuals were very pleasing and there were some moments to laugh at although it is most likely to be because of Dwayne opening weekend and a series of positive critic reviews This was easily predicted because of the pre release advertising and trailers From my perspective I believe that the sequel has concentrated more on the team s character development like Drax s personality instead of his hunger for avenging or Gamora s unspoken and confusing relationship with the star lord Peter Quill This gives more insight into what brings the Guardians together and what relations they have between them The story is the weakest aspect of the film but although while not being the best feature it still has a stable plot and consists of a good plot twist Even though it is foreseen in the previous movie about Peter s bizarre ancestry the writers do a good job of keeping the viewers at the edge of their feet Whilst not being a film that keeps you constantly tensed up for what happens next it does do a good job of entertaining the audience with the visual and charismatic side of the Marvel volume G uardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is an American Marvel superhero film directed by James Gunn and released on the 19th of April 2017 After they realize Rocket steals important batteries from the Sovereign after being hired to defend them they dispatch an army to try and stop the team Whilst the crew attempt to escape Peter Quill unravels his own heritage The second successful installment of the open ended franchise returned with a massive 146 million haul on the Continues next page 29

CULTURE Films Few sources have said negative things to the excessive amount of special effects used saying that it is too bubbly rainbow and colorful for a Marvel Universe film I would disagree with these statements as I personally think that the balance of colorful visual and dark setting effects was fine and if anything was possibly the best part about it In summary my experience with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 was extremely positive and with Quill s smooth jokes 30 and Drax s contagious laugh it was a movie that I enjoyed thoroughly and will want to watch again That means that for GotG I will be giving a high rating Rating 8 5 10 Ar cles by Kevin Barreto 17
