JP S JOURNAL BY JONATHAN CEO Caring For Life GETTING THE HEART OF THIS MINISTRY Just the other day someone said to me Every day is a school day Those words are so true aren t they Don t we learn something new every day If we have ears to hear and eyes to see we will learn something new from the Lord every day I can t help being amazed at the Lord when I read or ponder over a passage from the Bible and maybe it s a passage I know really well but during those moments I see something new something that I never saw before The psalmist s words Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path are words we could say Amen to And of course the most fantastic thing about the scriptures is the fact that they reveal to us and introduce us to the wonderful love of God displayed through His Son Jesus Christ I would just like to remind you all and if you are new to Caring For Life introduce you to this truth that it is the love of Jesus that inspires us to do what we do at Caring For Life This is actually our greatest hope and prayer that the love and compassion shown here through the different ministries would draw people s gaze heavenward That is one of the unique ways God speaks to us through His precious scriptures Spurgeon said this about the Bible Nobody ever outgrows scripture the book widens and deepens with our years I have seen godly men and women testify to this Those pages may have been read over year after year and cried over many times but the words coming back from the pages and the love flowing from them are as fresh and new as the first time they were read In fact the words are more alive and real than the first time they were read 1 It is Jesus who shows us the way it is Jesus whom we follow and it is from Him that we learn new things more than anyone else It is knowing Him and seeing Him it is meeting Him not only through the written word but experiencing Him as a living Word that s what compels us to go into the world with the message of His Gospel the Gospel that saves and transforms lives

Jesus means everything to us here because everything that goes on here is about Him and it is done for His glory To some people He may be an outdated man from the past or a good moral leader or to others a name to use as a curse but to us He is our Saviour our majesty our Lord and incredibly our friend We praise God every day and we should because we rub shoulders and live life with men and women who have come to love and follow Jesus through being here at Caring For Life This is actually our greatest hope and prayer that the love and compassion shown here through the different ministries would draw people s gaze heavenward We pray that eyes would be lifted above their pain and suffering above the abuse and rejection of this world to see the kind loving smile of Jesus looking back If you love Jesus then you will testify that He is your greatest love your first love your dearest love and our heart s desire is for others to know that for themselves too Just a week or two ago I visited Holland with John our nurseries manager We visited a number of greenhouses and plant suppliers but whilst we were there we spent a bit of time with some dear friends from the USA That day one of them that had visited the home of Corrie Ten Boom the brave lady who saved so many Jewish people by hiding them from the Nazis and in the process putting herself and her family at great risk She really was a remarkable person and we thank the Lord for her but she also left us with many powerful statements One is this You can never learn that Christ is all you need until Christ is all you have Until Jesus is the air you breathe and the only life you live then you are always looking for hope in hopeless places and you are always trying to find satisfaction in the world s empty promises For so many in our care the world s promises have left them vulnerable isolated and in desperate need But here is the power of the Gospel there is no situation too bad and 2

JP S JOURNAL CONTINUED there is no person too far away from God that His Grace can t overcome and the person be won and welcomed back into the fold Corrie again said this There is no pit so deep that God s love is not deeper still I know this and I am sure you do too but tragically there are so many people who think they are too bad too far gone to be rescued by anyone let alone by God One young lady in our care said this to one of the Being There team members at our latest Bassenfell residential holiday after listening to a talk on God s grace She said that this is good but it s not for someone like me She meant that the love of God was not for someone as messed up and bad as her Doesn t that break your heart to think that she thinks so little of herself But here is the thing the love of God is exactly for someone like her just as much as it is for someone like you and someone like me You know all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God that s true But all have been offered the hand of salvation and through His sacrifice His blood makes the foulest clean Hallelujah what a Saviour If you get what I am saying in this article then you are getting the heart of this ministry It s a message about a love bigger than ours a security more safe than ours a hope beyond anything we can promise It s about a risen King whose name is love He is mighty to save and He is very much at work here through this gospel mission If you want to see this for yourselves and maybe meet some of the beautiful souls we are so privileged to share the love of Jesus with then please come and visit us on 13th of July which is our Supporters Day Please come and rejoice with us and maybe come and learn something new about Jesus and His all su cient grace May the Lord bless and keep you all Love in Jesus name Now may the God of peace who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus that great Shepherd of the sheep equip you with everything good for doing his will and may he work in us what is pleasing to him through Jesus Christ to whom be glory for ever and ever Amen HEBREWS 13 20 21 3

PETER S PARTY With Peter our Co Founder having recently retired it was important for the occasion to be marked but in the traditional Caring For Life way we took the opportunity to have lots of fun The Centre had been decorated with balloons and a banner along with lots of photos of Peter taken over the 32 years of Caring For Life s ministry and the place erupted with cheers and applause when Peter and Judith arrived Peter was presented with a photo album and leather bound journal into which people had written a personal message thanking Peter and Bill Bygroves our Chair of the Trustees got everyone on their feet for a lively singing session A large cake was cut and devoured and a very happy occasion drew to a close Shortly after the celebration Peter pointed to the sign above the Granary entrance door Non nobis Domine non nobis sed nomini tuo da gloriam Not to us Lord not to us but to You alone be the glory That says it all the place erupted with cheers and applause when Peter and Judith arrived 4

ALL CHANGE BY CATH Being There Team Manager The week had been wet and windy not the best time to be having the first of our planned summer day trips We had packed up a picnic the night before and were hopeful for a break in the rain because our plan was to take a group of those we support to Yorkshire Wildlife Park The day arrived and no change wet windy and really cold As four of our party had mobility issues we felt we had to think on our feet and change all arrangements We met as a team and threw around a few ideas Cancelling completely wasn t an option as for some it would have taken great effort to be up early and to get ready for our 9am pick up It was decided that due to the deluge of rain which was forecast driving too far was not wise so we organised a local trip to Tropical World in Leeds instead We were concerned 7 about phoning everyone as we knew they were really looking forward to Yorkshire Wildlife Park we needn t have worried as everyone was just so glad to be still going on a trip We had such a lovely day For some their life experience is so limited that seeing the aquarium butterflies monkeys and meerkats was thrilling for them I certainly enjoyed it so much more seeing everything through their eyes We finished the day with our picnic in an outdoor shelter huddled together for warmth with lots of chatter and laughter It taught us a valuable lesson that it was less about the place we visited and more about just going somewhere as a group and enjoying each other s company having said that we did find ourselves promising that we would all still go to Yorkshire Wildlife Park when summer finally arrives For some their life experience is so limited that seeing the aquarium butter ies monkeys and meerkats was thrilling for them I certainly enjoyed it so much more seeing everything through their eyes

Chris s Story N O LO N G E R A LO N E Chris lives an isolated and lonely life spending most of his time alone in his flat made more despairing by his age at just 19 He has some signi cant physical health issues and hasn t been getting the medical help he needs He also seems to have an undiagnosed learning dif culty or cognitive impairment Our rst visit with Chris took place in his at a dirty and chaotic environment with rubbish strewn all over and an old mattress for his bed in the corner of the lounge Chris is unable to seek work and relies on a very low bene t of just over 120 per fortnight I was able to take Chris to a local shop to buy some essentials and then I delivered a food parcel the following day It s our aim to improve his bene ts income help him get the medication and medical help he needs help him learn life skills such as personal care and looking after his home budgeting etc and maybe getting Chris onto a project at the farm which could be really bene cial When we visited Chris he d run out of food and gas and only had 3 left on his electric account and nearly a week left until his next payment He had resorted to using an electric blanket to keep warm instead of having any heating on and was able to tell us with some pride that he d worked out it only cost him 1p an hour much less than putting the heating on It s my prayer that Chris will experience God s love through our help and ultimately come to know Jesus for himself 8

MUSIC REPORT BY HARRIET Music Project Leader We recently put on a concert showcasing the hard work and musical gifts of those on the project It was so encouraging to see our friends performing so confidently skilfully and joyfully and to see the impact that this had on how each performer views themselves One particularly lovely moment after the concert was when a lady who had been very anxious beforehand but who sang passionately and musically described her performance as a u turn moment I could see it was just family It has been a joy to see her growing in her faith over the past few months as she starts to accept that God really does love her no matter what and as she starts to see herself as a part of His family For one gentleman it was his first concert at the farm and the other beneficiaries were so warm and welcoming as he joined us on the day For another gentleman the concert seemed to be just what he needed As he tries to cope with the recent loss of his partner he said about his singing It gives me a pat on the 9 back confidence you ve achieved Other lovely quotes include I surprised myself a lot and made myself proud I love my singing singing s my hobby and At first I was nervous but I know God and it s changed me I know God was standing with me encouraging me Over the past few months I have seen a lot of folks going through tough times and yet their eyes are shining brightly with hope What a privilege it is to walk alongside them and to see them realising their God given beauty and worth At rst I was nervous but I know God and it s changed me I know God was standing with me encouraging me 6
