COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT Dear Members This month s Lefe Life has so much good news in it that I hate to start on a sad note We will say goodbye to our first international team this month With Dan and Leah s guidance Tina Christa Joanne and Kayla have become part of our family You know they have made an impact when a dinner in their honor last month sold out in only ten minutes We appreciate all they brought to Waterlefe and wish them much success in their future endeavors All but Tina who plans to return to Mexico will move on to other properties throughout the US during the summer As we consider our team for next fall you can rest assured they will be high on our list Thanks to you they all have asked to be considered for next year We have received the first draft of our new public website Lindsey and I will be working on the copy and photos and hope to have the public face completed over the next few months We are in the midst of Spring Break and we love seeing your families at the River Club Please remind youngsters that mischievous use of the amenities from the locker rooms or dining rest rooms cost everyone and we d hate to have to stop providing them Thursday afternoon April 20 in the ladies locker room all of the body wash shampoo and conditioner were emptied into the shower and the shower was left running to the point that the floor in the hallway flooded then the container for the cotton swabs was emptied into a toilet filled with water and thrown on the walls along with soiled paper towels Sanitary supplies have been opened and found in the bushes and shaving cream from the men s locker room has been smeared on the outside walls Unfortunately I could go on but I think you get the idea Your fellow Members and the River Club maintenance team appreciates your consideration Remember children under 16 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult We are gearing up for our River Club modifications that will begin on June 5 You will notice new items around the Tiki as it will be our Bar during renovations beginning in June The roof contract has been signed and we hope based on tile delivery to coordinate the installation during our renovations Speaking of renovations the designer s concept and materials were approved by the River Club Committee and the Board You will see a copy of their design in a few weeks in the lobby We will be replacing all the chairs tabletops and some bases bar stools bistro chairs chandeliers and most art If you are interested in any pieces please let me know so I can notify you when release them The upstairs dining room bistro and bar will be closed May 31 until June 7 to empty the bar and get staged for the beginning of construction The bar and bistro will remain closed until late August The Tiki will begin service on June 7 and continue until August 1 The dining room will reopen June 7 and remain open until August 1 All the upstairs facilities will be closed the month of August If you have any questions or just want to visit my door is almost always open See you soon Susan Greene MPOA General Manager COO WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 PAGE 3

MPOA UPDATES Finance Report Greetings Waterlefe members The good news from the financial department is that as of March 31 2023 the MPOA Year to Date surplus is 90 012 before depreciation We have been approved for a construction loan for the upcoming Clubhouse renovations Prelimiary exenses for the renovation project have been and continue to be processed I want to make everyone aware that if you are paying your assessments and River Club charges by check you can combine both amounts on one check We have noticed many Members send in two checks from the same bank account I understand if that is how you record your personal expenses but I just want to let you know one check is acceptable in case it would make it easier for you Are you also aware that there is a drop off box outside the Administration offices located on the left side of the Clubhouse by the MPOA Office entrance Please feel free to deposit your payments there or any other important communications after office hours as necessary The third quarter MPOA assessment will be billed on June 1st but is not due until July 1st of this year All River Club charges continue to be due by the 10th of the month following the month of the charges I also want to remind everyone about the Food Beverage Minimums again As shown on the below graph all Members whose last name starts with E through K have a 250 00 minimum to meet by June 30 You can find your F B minimum balance on the member website under Statements I sincerely hope that the two prior articles on Assessment amounts and due dates and the statement information on the Waterlefe Members website were useful for everyone If you have any suggestions on a topic you would like more information on please feel free to contact me at Comptroller waterlefefl com To those who are heading out to their summer residences and vacations I wish you safe journeys I look forward to seeing you back in the fall Valerie Funk Comptroller WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 PAGE 15
MPOA UPDATES CAM Report Waterlefe has INANIMATE LANDSCAPE D COR GUIDELINES you will need to follow Now that spring is here we will be doing our landscape review Below are guidelines for inanimate landscape d cor in Waterlefe Don t forget to put in an application to the Design Review Board BEFORE you do any landscaping changes INANIMATE LANDSCAPE D COR Flower pots or planters collectively known as pots A maximum of 3 pots in each of the following 4 locations Front garden beds Rear garden beds The 2 side garden beds A maximum of 3 pots are permitted in these areas without Design Review Board DRB approval Any amount over 3 pots in the front rear or sides requires an application to be filled out to get approval BEFORE youmake any changes Pots shall be placed within existing landscape beds Pots shall not be placed on driveways or walkways but one pot may be placed between garage doors as long as the pot is not wider than the space between the garage doors Pots may be made of clay concrete slow corroding metals such as brass or some iron and decorative plastic Pot colors should blend in with the color and style of the home Landscaper grower pots are not permitted Pots shall be in proportion to home and landscape bed PAGE 16 LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB

RIVER CLUB UPDATES Club Management May Dining Events This will be our final month of excitement before the Summer Season slow down and before renovations begin We are going to miss our Seasonal Members and Staff dearly Lots of fun is planned this month so be sure to check out the Events Calendar available anytime online also featured in the GM s section to see what s coming up or continue flipping through this edition to see a summary of the many things we have in store River Club Renovations Dining Closures More The time is fast approaching to prepare for the construction efforts to update the River Club s interior We are thrilled to be getting a fresh new look and can t wait to share it with everyone Many of you are likely wondering what the plan is for dining in the coming months For now Members should expect MAY 30TH JUNE 6TH The River Club will be closed to prepare for the Bar Bistro portion of the renovation During this time we will be moving furniture relocating offices etc The MPOA offices downstairs fitness center pool etc will remain open and staff will be available as usual throughout the renovation DURING THE MONTHS OF JUNE JULY Dining will be available in the Main Dining Room only During daytime business hours 9am 3 4pm there will be construction noise present so visitors should be prepared aware BEGINNING IN AUGUST AND THROUGH COMPLETION EST MID SEPTEMBER The River Club upstairs will be closed and unavailable We will continue to keep Members apprised as new schedules and details emerge Closures and updates will be visible on the website Events Calendar and weekly emails as usual Celebrating the Dream Team This season our team enjoyed time with each other discovering Florida hot spots during their time away from work From girls weekends in Orlando at Universal Studios to day trips at Busch Gardens a trip to the County Fair and a Christmas Hibachi dinner to name a few our crew truly connected at and outside of work Dan Adkins River Club Manager PAGE 22 LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB

CDD GOLF UPDATES Committee News LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE The current spring mix annuals have been doing well and are bringing a nice pop of color for the season The Landscape Committee has chosen a similar style of annuals called the summer mix This will include crossandras geraniums zinnias vincas and angelonias Work was also completed in April at the front entrance Discovery Terrace berm and roundabout to include replenishing plants that have died or been removed over time Enhancements for the Winding Stream Berm between Rainbow Court and the back gate have also been approved This work will include the removal of flax lilies additions of more arbicola and pops of color throughout See below for initial mock ups of the completed project WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 PAGE 29
CDD GOLF UPDATES Committee News Continued SAFETY COMMITTEE The Safety Committee has analyzed data from the radar sign on Portside Terrace and is now working to get it moved to a new location on Foggy Morn Once the sign is moved the committee will monitor initial data and then compare it to data from after the sign has been up for a couple months to see if there are any improvements in traffic behaviors As data is compiled the committee will send out updates similar to the ones for Portside Terrace The safety committee is also beginning to review the rules for residents with golf carts that want gate passes At this time they must be registered and insured as a slowmoving vehicle with Manatee County before being able to purchase a pass GOLF COMMITTEE The major greens renovations have begun on the course Initial stripping of the greens and tee complexes on almost all 18 holes has been completed The construction is currently on schedule and the re opening of the golf course is still scheduled for October The Golf Committee is now beginning to look at membership and dues as staff prepare to begin budgeting in the summer for the following fiscal year Membership is at an alltime high with 293 members Of those 293 members 164 are residents of the community CAPITAL PROJECT COMMITTEE The Capital Project Committee has continued to work with Staff as we prepare for the renovations to start The committee is currently working on the role of the owner s representative and an acoustics analysis Staff continues to work on the construction permit which is expected by the end of April and the CDD board should have the financing finalized at roughly the same time The expected start date is still expected to be in May and will last approximately 10 months Lastly staff is working on plans to add bathrooms for golfers making the turn that will be located on the cart barn The goal is to have this completed prior to re opening for play PAGE 30 LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB
CDD GOLF UPDATES Safety Committee Tip of the Month NON RESIDENT FISHING PROTOCOL Waterlefe has always been a great community centered around wildlife Many residents enjoy the nature trail walks boating and especially fishing Residents are allowed to fish on common grounds in the community however non residents are not Staff tries their best to stop non resident fishers from entering but what happens when a non resident is on property Waterlefe has steps to take when you suspect a non resident fisher Below is a flyer detailing how to reach out to Waterlefe staff to address non resident fishers If you witness anyone potential non residents fishing or anyone suspicious please follow the below guidelines If someone is on your property If an emergency call 911 otherwise use the Sheriff s Office nonemergency line of 941 747 3011 Do not engage with the individual s or attempt to confront them As the homeowner you have the ability to trespass the individual s without the assistance of the CDD If you suspect a non resident is fishing on CDD common grounds or the Golf Course During the hours of 7am to 6pm o Report individual s to the Golf Shop at 941 744 9771 During the hours of 6pm to 7am o If an emergency call 911 otherwise use the Sheriff s Office non emergency line of 941 747 3011 o Report the incident to the Gate House at 941 708 6866 so we have a record of it and can follow up with the Sheriff s Office if needed The Sheriff s Office has provided assurance more than once that a resident can call in for the CDD property and an officer should respond If this does not happen please notify Steve Dietz at sdietz waterlefefl com or 941 718 4842 so it can be addressed with the Sheriff s Office WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 PAGE 31

AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD In the Spotlight Featuring Your Neighbors Barbara Dave Sands Barbara was born and raised in Cheltenham PA a northeastern suburb of Philadelphia and Dave was born and raised in Brooklyn New York Barbara and Dave spent their early adult lives attending college starting families and building careers Dave also was in the US Air Force stationed mainly in Plattsburg New York training as a canine officer Life just had a plan they say They were working for many years at the same company in Princeton New Jersey and didn t know it was fate until a mutual friend set up a blind date They met danced talked and that was it everything clicked They have been together since that very evening and have been married for 34 years Their blended families have been their life and joy with three children and seven grandchildren soon to be eight in June ranging in ages from 20 years down to 2 years old Life has been so sweet seeing everyone s family grow The extended families all live and work in the NJ NY area While it is long distance traveling to and from on special occasions and holidays or just for Florida fun is a must Dave and Barbara moved permanently to Waterlefe in June 2012 Dave left the corporate scene and started his own business 30 years ago as president of his own promotional marketing firm he has successfully managed the business independently with major clients primarily in the New York area Barbara continued to pursue corporate HR Benefits and Compensation positions until moving to Florida where she has been in client account management positions for an International Benefits Consulting firm PAGE 34 LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB
AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD In the Spotlight Barbara Dave Sands Continued As for their spare time they enjoy biking boating and exercising They always had time to add a few beautiful Golden Retrievers to their family over the years their 5 goldenboys have shared their home and hearts Griffin who is 4 years old now keeps them out walking and playing year round what a joy Taking the boat to Anna Maria Island to swim and relax and south to Captiva and other destinations is always fun They love local fishing trips where Dave believes in Catch and Cook with Dave catching and Barb cooking Happy times for Barbara are gardening and cooking Traveling to the Caribbean is always on their list and their grandchildren convinced them to travel together to the Greek Islands It was a trip of a lifetime with more to come They both enjoy the Waterlefe activities and get togethers with friends for dinners parties and trips Since Waterlefe has a spectacular Golf Club and Course they couldn t stay still for long In the last year the GOLF BUG has hit and they are out on the course and crazy about the game and looking forward to many years of exciting times together and with friends Whew When will they finally retire and have fun Submitted by Member Resident Jack Ritchie WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 PAGE 35

AQUATIC NAUTICAL ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVITIES GROUPS Boating Community News Continued THE AMERICAS BOATING COURSE was presented by Anna Maria Island Sail and Power Squadron at Waterlefe After 40 plus years of fresh water boating I found it most valuable and recommend that more Waterlefe boaters take this course Key topics included required safety equipment navigation and communication on the water and government state and local regulations A certificate of completion was awarded allowing for boat insurance discounts BOATING EXCURSION TO EGMONT KEY It was a beautiful day to take a journey Unfortunately only 2 boats made the trip my boat and a boat captained by Paul Gauthier for a total of 8 people Seeing the island for the first time I was impressed with the pristine sandy beach aqua colored water and very few people I beached my boat on the leeward side to have lunch and see more of the island Accompanying me in my boat was my wife Becky and our friends Sue and Kirk Birrell Paul decided to cruise around the Island and have lunch at Riviera Dunes restaurant on their way back Walking along the many trails we encountered a Goffer Tortoise a local habitant to the island and the state tortoise of Florida While lounging on the beach a friendly manatee cruised by sticking his head out of the water at us as if to say welcome to my waters We capped off our day by having a light meal and a cold one and other adult beverages at Riviera Dunes A good time was had by all We hope more will join us next time Learn more about Egmont Key here https www floridastateparks org learn history egmont key PAGE 38 LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB
AQUATIC NAUTICAL ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVITIES GROUPS Boating Community News Continued FUTURE OF THE WATERLEFE BOATING KAYAKING COMMUNITY GROUP As our Boating and Kayaking Community Group comes to the end of its seasonal meetings and outings and I soon head back to Michigan I couldn t help reflecting on this year s Boating Group meetings and events With the exception of our initial meeting we had a low turnout for most gatherings and I wondered if we had offered enough events and activities that were of interest to our community While we had about 35 people attend our dinner approximately half were non boaters Only one boat besides mine participated in our Egmont outing We had 14 people initially sign up for the boating course but only 5 attended As we hope to increase participation next season I am reaching out to all our Waterlefe boaters and kayakers and asking you to think about what your interests are for the Boating Community Group The group was formed to give boaters and kayakers a way to socialize and meet fellow boaters What types of events and activities would interest you most Maybe the group s main purpose is to be a resource to boaters and kayakers new boater orientation to WL river navigation aid lift and dock contractor recommendations boat yearly safety inspections boating courses kayak locations to paddle and rental locations etc Please give this some thought and let me know your ideas I would like to thank all the boaters and kayakers who participated in our events and attended our meetings A special thanks to Denny Meskill for volunteering to head up the Kayak Group I would also like to thank Bob Cameron and Dave Rogers for the time and effort they put forth Thank you for everything you do for our Boating and Kayaking Community While I am in Michigan for the summer I am available to provide information to our boaters Feel free to reach out I love helping boaters Denny can help you with kayak questions In closing I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy boating summer whatever body of water you find yourself on Jim Manning JPManning880 Gmail com WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 PAGE 39

AQUATIC NAUTICAL ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVITIES GROUPS Kayaking Community News The weather certainly cooperated for our first ever Waterlefe kayak outing on Saturday April 15 It was a beautiful morning There were 8 kayaks with 9 kayakers We launched from The Pointe at about 9 30 am The waters were calm We paddled east on the river to the Ft Hamer bridge and beyond We passed the eagles nest in a cove behind The Shores continued toward the Ft Hamer bridge paddled for another mile and then turned around to return to Waterlefe The trip lasted about 2 hours A fun time was had by all We plan to do another outing on Saturday May 13 leaving The Pointe at 9 30am No RSVP needed just show up WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 PAGE 41

ARTS CREATIVITY ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVITIES GROUPS Literary Society at Waterlefe News The Literary Society at Waterlefe LSW has adopted a new school this year In April Mr Michael Escorcia the principal came to the River Club to accept our donation from the Literacy Society Luncheon in February with Mamta Chaudhry Our gift was 1 750 00 He told us he used the money to hire an African American author Shanita Allen to speak to the students All students attending the presentation received a copy of her book Let s Go Dreaming into the Stars This school wide assembly was a success and showed many students that they could become the writers of tomorrow with a bit of practice and motivation Rogers Garden Bullock is a Title I school with 55 Hispanic students 44 African American students and 1 others Mr Escorcia s presentation to Waterlefe was inspiring because we experienced his energy and enthusiasm He told us that Rogers Garden Bullock has the lowest literacy proficiency in the entire county 24 proficiency k 2 and 15 in 3 5 He said that the students need foundational skills The primary issue at RGB is that the students come from trauma filled lives and have little support academically at home Several Waterlefe residents are volunteering in the schools to improve literacy If you want to know more about volunteer opportunities or ways to help a school with an optimistic attitude and committed educators please email Sue Birrell President of the Waterlefe Literacy Society Mr Michael Escorcia from G D Rogers Garden Bullock Elementary School accepting our donation from our annual luncheon PAGE 46 LEFE LIFE MAY 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB
