Greetings from your South GHATS Representatives   Dennis Fyke ATC, LAT; Bryant Spencer ATC, LAT

The year 2020 has been one of constant change and challenges.   Athletic Trainers have been on highlights in the news and in the newspapers for our successes during this pandemic.  Thank you to all for your positive efforts in all work settings.  This is creating a positive image of the Athletic Training profession from a local to a national level.   As athletics enters our final sports of the school year we will continue to be observed and highlighted this year.  As a professional we will continue to serve our athletes the best way we know how with the resources available.  Continue to share your ideas with your colleagues as GHATS has done in Zoom meetings this year.  It was good to see all around the state we are doing similar things on our campus to make participating in athletics with safety being our highest priority. 

This past year the NATA and SWATA, and our local Sports Medicine Updates (Bob Marley), Texas Children’s, GHATS Student Workshop all stepped up big to provide CEU opportunities for free to low cost in a new Zoom format.  I would like to thank Paetow High School Rudy Lazars and Katy ISD continuing the Tradition of the workshop annual.  I applaud your outstanding achievement.  It was greAT to learn and share with each other.  I know we all would like to return to in person sessions.

I challenge everyone to reach out to your neighbors and colleagues to be actively engaged in GHATS. We have many events that have been postponed this past year, such as the Robert French Social cornhole tournament, the awards banquet.  It is time to celebrate our fellow AT accomplishments and friendships by attending GHATS events.   We are looking forward to seeing you at the Honors and Awards and Cornhole tournament.   If you have any questions or comments, please reach out to your GHATS South Representatives or any member of the Board.

Hello from Your Northside Representatives 

Mass physicals are returning this year. Klein, Tomball, and Cy Fair ISDs are partnering with Houston Methodist to facilitate mass physicals. In order to observe covid guidelines and practice social distancing, pre-physical screenings will not be conducted on site the day of physicals. Athletic trainers are working with coaches and activity sponsors to schedule pre-physical screenings during athletic periods or after school to ensure the safety of all student-athletes.

Spotlight of the Day - Process Share

To be selected for the Spotlight of the Day for the NATM posts, every single GHATS member’s name, that is in good standing, was put into an automatic Random Raffle Generator. We have only 163 members at that time.  Prior to selection, it was predetermined that only 35 names would be chosen and any GHATS Members that have held an office in the past 4 years would be removed due to non-eligibility.  The generator provide the names at random. 

The GHATS Members that were chosen were contacted and asked them to email our president their bio and a picture of themselves.  Out of the 35 names, only have 28 responded.  Reminders were sent out and the 28 that responded were posted over the month.
