Happy Summer Waterlefe GENERAL MANAGEMENT Just like last year the next two issues of Lefe Life will combine two months June July and August September You will notice that despite being in slow season we are still just as jammed full of events as ever Come visit Dom Leah Miranda Jessica and Stephanie along with Chad and Dan for an awesome summer dining line up Waterlefe has a pet leash policy in that pets must be on a leash at all times including while at the Pointe You will notice in the coming weeks additional signage and the addition of a camera focused on the children s playground Pets are not allowed in the playground area at any time Don t forget to remember Dad on Father s Day with his own paver on the Walk of Fame commemorating his favorite team sport branch of service or a special memory Construction begins on the River Club s Bistro Bar renovation in the first week of June There are two design boards in the lobby showcasing the colors furnishings lighting and flooring for you to get an idea of the scheme of the next generation River Club During construction enjoy the new lounging area at the pool complete with a firepit misting fans and other poolside surprises I heard Thursday just might be Thirsty Thursday Check it out The existing Bistro and Bar furnishings have been moved out Watch for other items to go on sale in late July Waterlefe Travels had a great time as part of the Activities Committee as we watched the Rays win at Tropicana Upcoming ideas for more excursions include a Sunset Cruise a trip to see the Buccaneers and a trip to the Florida State Rodeo If you have ideas for upcoming adventures call or send me an email to gm waterlefelfl com Susan Greene MPOA General Manager COO WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE JUNE JULY 2023 PAGE 3

MPOA UPDATES Financial Report Hello everyone As of April 30 2023 the MPOA Year to Date Surplus is 136 667 before depreciation The renovation project is ready to begin Please refer to the website and the weekly Lefe Lite emails on Mondays for information on the progress and for the restaurant hours There has been an increase in Members needing their access cards replaced Some of the original little gray fobs have begun to stop working as it is on a radio frequency idenitification chip and can only pick up a certain number of frequencies in its lifetime Since we are no longer using those gray fobs the replacement is now a white card with a magnetic strip on the back with information that is tied to your Member account and your name is printed on the front If you need to replace the gray fob only for the pool area there is no charge for the new white access card If the replacement for the gray fob is for the Fitness Center and the Pool area then there is a 25 00 charge which is billed to your Member account Any Member purchasing a new white card for just the Fitness Center must also sign a waiver form and the card will say FITNESS CENTER on it instead of your name Please treat these new access cards as you would your credit card Do not punch a hole in the card to put on a key ring as this destroys the integrity of the card and will deactivate it The cost to replace it will be another 25 00 Again if you have any suggestions on a topic or you would like more information please feel free to contact me at comptroller waterlefefl com Summertime is upon us which means traveling to summer homes or going on vacation Wherever you go we wish you safe journeys and don t forget the sunscreen Valerie Funk Comptroller Valerie Funk Comptroller CFO PAGE 16 LEFE LIFE JUNE JULY 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB
MPOA UPDATES CAM Report Looking forward to June Showers After the very dry May we had please take a good look at your landscaping and determine if you will need extra hand watering as Manatee County only allows automatic watering to be scheduled twice a week June should start the daily showers which will make a big difference but sometimes it doesn t start until the second week in June so keep on the lookout Also as a friendly reminder if there are any bare patches or dead plants in your mulch beds please schedule to have new plants added to keep your property in top form Please keep in mind that any major plantings or changes will require a Design Review Board application to be submitted before you do the work If you are simply replacing two or three plants then you will not need an application Please give the property management office a call if you have any questions 941 747 6898 Any outside changes do require you to fill out a DRB application and get approval BEFORE you start doing the work This goes for if you are cutting down any trees or planting new ones replacing grass with sod painting your house putting in new light fixtures or repainting them as well as new house numbers Let s Talk Trash As the Waterlefe Governing Documents advise recycle containers trash cans and yard waste may be put out as early as the evening prior to pick up Your containers must be put away by the same evening of pick up Trash containers may not be stored in the driveway or walkways Containers must be stored out of view from the street or neighbors If you are away please make arrangements with a friend relative or neighbor to put your trash containers out of view Yard waste is also to be put out the evening prior to pick up presently Wednesday is pick up day so you can put it out Tuesday evening at the earliest Yard waste must be tied up and if longer than 4 feet in length must be cut into smaller sections If you have an extremely large mountain of yard waste and it is not properly tied most likely they won t pick it up You will have to call Manatee County to schedule a pick up date Please let the management office know of the expected pick up date The DRB and Property Management offices are here to help you with any and all concerns you may have Just give us a call Thank you for helping to keep Waterlefe beautiful MaryAnn Burchell Community Association Manager LCAM WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE JUNE JULY 2023 PAGE 17
MPOA UPDATES CERT Update The Waterlefe Community Emergency Response Team wants to remind you to be prepared during this coming HURRICANE SEASON You might wonder What is CERT CERT members are your neighbors who have volunteered to assist residents until 9 1 1 emergency responders can get to Waterlefe CERT volunteers will perform LIGHT rescue work in the neighborhood and provide BASIC first aid as needed IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to prepare you your family and your home in the event of a hurricane or tropical storm Be proactive and be prepared Are you ready Think about these items issues in advance 1 Will you stay or evacuate Where will you go Think about a route or location in advance 2 If you are staying do you have a generator Do you want a generator If so purchase BEFORE there is a hurricane on the horizon Learn how to use it and test it periodically Keep a copy of the manual in your emergency kit 3 Prepare an emergency supply kit in advance https www mymanatee org departments public_ safety emergency_management build_a_disaster_kit 4 Prepare a list of the important financial insurance and other records you will take with you Better yet make duplicates in advance and put them in your emergency kit 5 Do you have hurricane shutters Do you have all supplies for quick installation Do you have a list of vendors who can help you with installation 6 Do you have a plan for your pets Visit the Manatee County Emergency Services web page for MUCH MORE information and to download a copy of the Disaster Planning Guide Put this web address in your browser http www mymanatee org home government departments public safety emergencymanagement html OR www waterlefemembers com and click on the CERT Tab Valerie Funk Comptroller PAGE 18 LEFE LIFE JUNE JULY 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB

CDD GOLF UPDATES Committee News LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE The project on the Winding Stream Way berm by the back gate has been completed The goal of this project was to enhance the view of drivers entering and exiting through the back gate while maintaining a green barrier for the residents The roundabout at Fish Hook Cove Winding Stream and Waterlefe Blvd has also been enhanced to include the addition of crinum lilies and liriope See below for pictures of the recent enhancements The current spring annuals are growing in nicely even as we are starting to warm up for summer The next annual rotation which will be a similar summer mix is scheduled to be installed mid July so be sure to enjoy the beautiful spring mix while you can WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE JUNE JULY 2023 PAGE 27
CDD GOLF UPDATES Committee News Continued SAFETY COMMITTEE The Safety Committee has determined a location on Foggy Morn to place the radar sign and staff is currently working to reach out to any residents affected and to get the sign moved Radar data shows that there was a decrease in speeding from when the radar sign was first put up to now on Portside Terrace The committee is hoping with the relocation of the sign to Foggy Morn to be able to determine the extent of speeding on the roadway and hope to see a similar decrease once the sign has been up for a couple of months The safety committee also reviewed gate passes for resident golf carts and has decided at this time to make no changes to the current policy As a resident if you would like to get a gate pass for your golf cart it will need to be licensed and insured as a slow moving vehicle GOLF COMMITTEE The Golf Committee is working with staff as they begin reviewing the budget for the upcoming fiscal year The on course renovations have been going smoothly thus far and photos and videos are being uploaded onto the website as it progresses To see the most up to date photos please CLICK HERE https www waterlefegolfandriverclub com sites courses template asp id 1022 page 127764 The golf committee has also been discussing the current reciprocal summer program for members PAGE 28 LEFE LIFE JUNE JULY 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB
CDD GOLF UPDATES Safety Committee Tip of the Month GOLF CART PROTOCOL Being in a golf course community you see a lot of golf carts on the roadways but how well do you know golf cart rules You may know that golf carts are to be driven on the roadways not on sidewalks and must obey the same rules of the road as vehicles This includes properly stopping at all stop signs What you may not know is Florida recently passed a new bill stating you must be 15 years of age with a permit to drive a golf cart vehicle Make sure when driving around the community to always be cautious and stay safe WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE JUNE JULY 2023 PAGE 29

AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD In the Spotlight Featuring Your Neighbors CARLA PHIL MILLER Unlike most other Waterlefers Carlotta Carla and Phil were born and raised in southern Arizona You know that s where it s not scorching hot because it is only a dry heat Speaking of pretty hot Carla and Phil were high school sweethearts and got married 40 years ago right after high school They ve since raised two children and two grandchildren But the real way Carla and Phil distinguish themselves is their decades of service to our country While still in college Phil spent two years in the Arizona Army National Guard After graduation he went on active duty and served a few years in Air Defense Artillery then transferred to Military Intelligence for the remaining 17 years Of the seven duty stations the Republic of Panama was the most interesting In 2006 Phil retired from the Army and started a second career with the Defense Intelligence Agency then retired again in 2022 His final position was the Program Manager for Supply Chain Risk Management Carla served as an energetic and engaged Army wife earning numerous accolades to include Volunteer of the Year for the U S Army South in Panama Later she began her own career with the Defense Information Systems Agency DISA She rose from GS 7 to GS 15 in under eight years and retired in 2022 after 20 years Her final position was the Deputy Chief of Cyberspace Operations When asked about their most impressive accomplishment they both agree it s maintaining a happy 40 year marriage despite marrying young having children young and military careers that kept the family on the move PAGE 32 LEFE LIFE JUNE JULY 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB
AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD In the Spotlight Carla Phil Miller Continued Other notable accomplishments include Carla earning the Magna Cum Laude designation upon graduation from the University of Maryland at College Park and Carla being awarded the Exceptional Civilian Service Award upon retirement from DISA For Phil it was earning a Second Lieutenant commission at the age of 19 and ultimately receiving the Legion of Merit Bronze Star and Defense Intelligence Career Service Award Their most significant professional accomplishments remain US Government secrets Carla and Phil moved into Waterlefe in late Spring of 2022 and quickly appreciated the River Club s dinners events and comradery They are also impressed with the neat clean appearance of Waterlefe plus the wonderful new friends they ve met In their newly acquired retirement time Carla is fully engaged with her passion for quilting while Phil enjoys spending time at the shooting range They both enjoy the Waterlefe Watering Hole Mexican Train dominoes British murder mysteries and cruises When we asked other residents to describe Carla and Phil they often say We are so happy to have the Millers as our neighbors Phil and Carla are so interesting and have shared great stories Submitted by Member Resident Jack Ritchie WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE JUNE JULY 2023 PAGE 33
