ASSO CI ATES S CHOL A RS The Associates Programme identifies ballet students from Yr 9 at secondary school and contemporary dance students from Yr 10 at secondary school who have potential for a career in dance performance The Scholars Programme provides training for classical ballet students from the age of 10 Yr 6 at primary school Classes are kept deliberately small and training is supported by allied subjects such as body conditioning This programme enables students to meet and work with like minded dancers of a similar age whether in classical ballet or contemporary dance Classical male students are given the opportunity to work on their specific vocabulary Students from North Cape to the Bluff are able to audition for the Associates Programme at the New Zealand School of Dance A tiered structure sees students progressing through the programme as Junior Intermediate and Senior Associates Additionally Associates can attend masterclasses in their region hosted by the Royal New Zealand Ballet and once a year Senior Associates join the full time NZSD students for an immersion week at the School Our Young Dancer Programmes YDP include Summer Intensive Enhance and Winter School held annually and Contemporary Intensive Programme held throughout the year Associates and Scholars are also part of the YDP These students are chosen ensuring those with aptitude can take class with similarly talented dancers Classes complement the student s current dance training while providing first hand experience of the School s teachers training style and facilities Auditions for Associates are held annually in Auckland Wellington and Christchurch Places are strictly limited to ensure that each student is given individual attention There is an administrative charge once accepted onto the programme however any travel and accommodation costs are to be covered by the student This programme focusses on the principles of movement incorporating the definitions of technique while embracing musicality and artistry The level of technique and frequency of classes increase annually to the age of 16 in preparation for the School s full time programme Auditions for Scholars are held annually in Wellington Student achievement is assessed each year and progression beyond Level 2 is at the discretion of the School From Level 4 students participate in the four weekends of the Associates Programme in addition to their regular Scholars classes While the programme principally focusses on dancers from the Lower North Island talented students from other regions may audition as National Scholars This programme incurs tuition fees HEAD OF ASSOCIATES CHRISTINE GUNN HEAD OF SCHOLARS SUE NICHOLLS Dip RBS TTC ARAD RTS President s Award 2004 B Phil Hons Dip PDTD RAD LON 04 381 9223 04 381 9252 christine gunn nzschoolofdance ac nz sue nicholls nzschoolofdance ac nz
