Opinion by Amber Smith. Show some love. This Winter season warm up few hearts with kind words and acts of love. Show the people close to you how much you care about them. Take an opportunity this Valentine’s Day and beyond. There are a few things you can do but the simplest way to show a friend you care about them is to make an effort to be there. Whether they need you or not, a friend will always be glad to hear from you. But in challenging times, it is most important to be there. Let them know the support they have. Here are some other ideas to show friends you love them. Surprise! Surprise your friend with a thoughtful article, it will let them know what you thought about them. They will also consider this to be thoughtful. Make their favorite dish and invite them to dinner just because. They will appreciate it. Keeping each other surprised always adds a smile. In the same way, read the articles a friend sends you, perhaps they are sharing something they are interested in. It makes it for a great conversation. Share what you learned from them. Tell your friends what you have learned from them, whether it would be how to cook something, or any other skill, but it will let them know that you listen, and what they say is important. It is a great way to connect and share new things. Gift them time. Quick drink after work, or a walk in the park whatever the task, sign up and enjoy. We love it when our friends join us for any activity. It makes the time more pleasant and who doesn’t want to do things with their friends, right? We love it when our friends share their time with us. We enjoy their company too, so share more with friends, let them know their company is welcomed. Build lifelong relationships with love and care. Depending on where you live, it is possible you wear sunglasses in the winter as much as in the summer. This season try the different shade colors. Have fun with the various shade coverage levels by choosing a pair of sunglasses that doesn’t have a dark tint. Sunglasses are still one of our favorite accessories. Black History Month Black History Month is an annual observance in the United States and Canada that celebrates the achievements and contributions of black people to the history, culture, and society of those countries. It is observed in February in the United States and in October in Canada. Black History Month originated in 1926, when historian Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History announced the second week of February to be "Negro History Week." This was chosen because it coincided with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, two figures who greatly impacted the lives of black people in the United States. The week was later expanded to a month in 1976, and it has been recognized as Black History Month in the United States ever since. During Black History Month, events and educational activities are held to recognize the achievements and contributions of black people in various fields, including politics, science, art, sports, and more. It is also a time to celebrate the rich history and culture of the African displacement and to raise awareness about issues that continue to affect black communities around the world. If you already support the black communities all year long, great. Now, show others how to contribute. There are many ways that you can get involved in Black History Month and support the celebration of the achievements and contributions of black people. Here are a few ideas: Attend events and local lectures. Many communities host events and lectures during Black History Month to celebrate the contributions of black people. Look for events in your area and attend them to learn more about black history and culture. Invite a friend. Another way to support black communities is by patronizing black-owned businesses. Look for businesses in your area and make an effort to support them during not just during Black History Month but throughout the year. Order food, or support a local group. May groups can be found online, so get involved. Learn about and celebrate black history and culture by visiting museums who celebrate black art. Take the time to learn about the history and culture of black people. This can include reading books, watching documentaries, and listening to music and other forms of media that celebrate black culture. Volunteer! Consider volunteering your time to organizations that support black communities. This can include organizations that provide education, mentorship, and other resources to black people. Always donate to local communities. Consider making a donation to organizations that support black communities, such as those that provide education, housing, and other resources. Advocate for others. Use your voice and platform to advocate for issues that affect black communities, such as racial justice and equality. This can include speaking out on social media, attending protests and rallies, and contacting your elected representatives to express your views. And never, ever allow prejudice in your presents. 11

Style Lab Stepping up your game in the new year? Make sure that suits fit properly. Suits are still a must-have for men. Whether you need something casual, or formal, there are many things to consider. Fit is fundamental. The quickest way to ruin a suit is always a bad fit. Personal tailor is not something we all can afford, but simple adjustments can be done where you purchase the suit, and it makes a big difference. Work Mode Traditional suit is great for everyday business. If you do not know what color to choose, go with gray. This color is very flexible, and goes well with stripped tie, and dotted shirt. Black shoes would be the most basic, but if you’d like to step up a little, try light brown lace up pair. Casual Friday. Ditch the tie or spice up the color. Modern Style suit calls for bolder colors for any event. Create a contrast with different color shoes and add a colorful shirt. Don’t forget the pocket square. Off the Clock. To complete any look, we must finish with a proper accessory. Ensure the shoes are clean and polished but add a fun and colorful pair of sucks to turn it relaxed and casual. White shirt sleeves should be long enough to stick out of the cuffs, an inch from the sleeve’s end. A watch is a great accessory, and it achieves the desired appearance. 19 41 Of course, you should always seek medical help when dealing with any skin condition, and we would always recommend it when starting a new routine, but common winter skin is all too familiar to us. Dry indoor heat, and cold winds with low humidity can strip your skin of moisture. Itchy skin, red spots, and dry, rough texture are the common symptoms of dry winter skin. Let’s talk about few tips which can help keep your skin looking soft and smooth all winter. Moisturize after washing. When you wash your hands, face, or body, you take off the skin’s natural oils. The oils help lock in the moisture in your skin. It is always important to moisturize right after washing your skin to keep the moisture locked in. Use sunscreen daily. Even in the winter the sun can do damage. Harmful UV light can still stress your skin. Applying sunscreen will help maintain hydration. Overnight creams. In the winter we recommend heavier creams to replenish the moisture and improve texture. While overnight treatments vary from creams, serums, and oils, whatever your preference, give it time to absorb. Give yourself a full night’s sleep, as the heavier creams take longer to absorb. Update your skin care habits. If your skin is already irritated and itchy, consider changing your skin care routine. Products that normally feel good on the skin, may prove to be harsh or irritating. Stick with simpler routine using only sunscreen and moisturizer during the day, and gentle wash and moisturizer at night. Skip the scrubs and exfoliants. As your skin heals, you can introduce your product back into the daily routine. Keep healthy. Help hydrate your skin from the inside. Drinking water in the winter helps the skin to keep a healthy glow and prevents the skin from being susceptible to drying out.

We all have been uniquely challenged the last two years, and it has affected every aspect of our lives. From work, to how we shop, and how we spend time otherwise. Our approach to clothing and fashion has drastically changed. However now some of us are going back to the office, and while some of us work from home, both groups are back out in the real world. I think at this point everyone is ready to come out of the pandemic sweats and update our wardrobes. The start of the year is a perfect time to do this. Let’s decide what we will keep and what needs to be handed down, and what needs to be donated. It is time to evaluate and declutter. Declutter. Let’s begin with a simple assessment. Our straightforward way of doing this is to look at the clothes and take stock of things we have not worn in the last two years. Minus the gowns that only see the light of day once a year anyway. But shirts or paints we have not taken out for a year need to go. Still, for the past two years, we really have not had the opportunity to show off our looks while in quarantine or working from home. So, we decided to keep what fits. It is best not to hold on to items that do not fit, this is one of the worst mistakes we all make when cleaning out our closets. Being realistic and honest is the best policy, if we don’t feel comfortable wearing it, we should not keep it. Don’t be fooled. There is always a chance we will rediscover old items and make them new again. Sometimes that skirt gets lost between the old items and we forget all about it. Now that we have a new skirt on our hands, we feel inclined to get a top to flatter our new find. Just do not fall for the sale. Just because something is on sale, it does not mean we have to buy it. Unless we need that piece to complete an ensemble, buying something we are not going to wear is a complete waste of money. Do not fall for the voice in your head. Sometimes we debate the smaller size because of the bargain, however wearing clothes that suit us well is important. When something doesn’t fit properly, we lose our confidence and wear it once. Just because our friend looks great in it, doesn’t mean we will. Don’t fall for it. Wear what suits you best. We know ourselves best, and we know which cut, or style of clothing suits us best. We know what flatters our figure and curves the best. We should stick with it. We should not be afraid to buy items that seem similar to something we already have. The most stylish people in the world create a look, or a uniform, which is always flattering. We should use the same formula. Whether we choose different textures, fabric, or color, the cut may be the same to flatter our best features. That will make us feel confident, and we will wear that item again. Have Fun. Lastly, we always remember to have fun. Styling should make us feel good. So we mix old with the new, create new looks and give ourlselves fashion freedom. We wear what feels good not just trendy, and we always allow ourselves to try to new things. Opinion 43

Fashion as I see it, is art displayed on the human form. That being said, as with art, it varies in style and technique, as with art and the artist. For example, the designs of some haute couture fashions resemble the works of the abstract artist. Culture Bold colors, very imaginative and captivating when done by a true artist, one with an eye for details. As with any art form there also variations within those disciplines, which is determined Now I’m sure by now in your mind you have started to examine different styles of fashion and categorize them in their various influences. That’s good, because the purpose of this piece, is get you think beyond the current shapes, hues, lines and overall structure of a thing and create your own. Now this is not limited to fashion, but I’ve used this example, to show how these art forms tend to cross over and overlap in many ways. In your examination of this, don’t forget that the creatively playful art as a role also. For instance, the works of Walt Disney and Hanna and Barbera, can also influence fashion. Beautiful works of the playful. Be bold, be playful and be creative. 45 by the artist and how he or she is poured out unto the canvas.
