Advent is a time of preparation and anticipa-tion. The word Advent comes from a Latin word that simply means “coming” or “arrival.” It could be the arrival of anything, but for Christians it is the word that describes the season that prepares us for the arrival of Christ. The arrival of Christ has two dimensions – the First Advent when Christ was born into the world and the Second Advent when Christ will come again. It is BOTH of these arrivals that are celebrated on the Sundays prior to Christmas each year. This Advent, we will journey through the nativity story by listening to four messengers - Joseph, Mary, the wise men, and the shepherds. Each receives a message that changes their lives, and each one responds in a way that helps carry the message forward. Their witness reminds us that the message of Christ still moves through people willing to hear, trust, and go. Their stories invite us to consider how God is using us to carry the message of Christ through our own lives and actions.
