Junghans Max Bill watch is the creation of the famous architect and designer of the same name As a student of the Bauhaus Max Bill learned at the feet of the great masters of minimalism and the international style to which he would soon become an integral contributor In Dessau Max Bill learned about the ability of humankind to design for itself a higher standard of living Minimalist thought dictated that a great source of human woe is due an overabundance of noise in one s own life These humanist notions infected Max Bill s work and minimalism due to its calming and clutter free approach and the obvious benefits of living simply became the defining characteristics of his work

After finding work as both an architect and an artist Max Bill sought out to found the Hochschule f r Gestaltung Ulm HfG in 1953 the building for which was his own design This school of design was intended to be a sort of revival of some of the notions which the Bauhaus represented while at the same time was heavily concerned with not only rebuilding after the war but rebuilding through a methodology that was comprehensive and morally grounded In this climate in 1956 one year prior to Max Bill s resignation as rector of the HfG Max Bill began a partnership with Junghans The Junghans Max Bill remains on sale today with only funtional modifications to seperate it from Max Bill s original timeless masterpiece

PROXIMA NOVA LIGHT ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP QRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqr stuvwxyz 1234567890 The Junghans Max Bill watch is notable in the design world partly because of its beautiful typography The typeface present on both the watch face and the reverse however is comepletely unique to itself The numerals are closest in appearance to the typeface Junghans GmbH uses as its corporate font Eurostile The numerals however are more rounded than the demandingly squared off Eurostile characters The text however is closest in appearance to Proxima Nova Light which while not a perfect match is an established font similar in character tone and legibility to the unique typeface present on the Junghans Max Bill watch
