A Brief History of Beta Phi Lambda Chapter the Alphabettes The Annual Debutante Cotillion Beta Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc was established in 1940 in Savannah Georgia The members of the chapter serve in various roles in the community The membership includes Retired Judge James Bass Mayor Van Johnson County Commission Chairman Chester Ellis Medical Doctors Gary N Harvey and Bobby Jones and Dentist Billy Jamerson III just to name a few In 1945 the chapter established the Annual Debutante Cotillion at which the finest young women of Savannah who were in their first year of college were presented to society The wives of the brothers served as matrons chaperons to these young ladies In 1958 a group of Alpha wives through the coordinated efforts of the late Mrs Richard Moore Ouida and late Brother A E Peacock President of Beta Phi Lambda Chapter met for the purpose of organizing an auxiliary to the chapter They organized and took the name The Alphabettes The wives have played an important role in support of the chapter from its beginning The most notable and by far the most pleasurable is the Annual Debutante Presentation which in 1945 presented five young ladies to the current Debutante season planning They present a program of activities designed to accentuate those qualities which exemplify the most desirable traits of refined womanhood The Lillie Jackson Ray Scholarships are awarded at the end of each Debutante Season to all the participants Since 2010 the chapter has awarded more than 40 000 in scholarships All wives and widows of the brothers are members of the Alphabettes To list the many contributions from our membership would be impossible Some of the Alphabettes currently involved include Mrs John Copeland Beverly Mrs Ramon Ray Elainor and Mrs Chester Ellis Wilmotine

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc Beta Phi Lambda Chapter Manly deeds scholarship and love for all mankind are the aims Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc Beta Phi Lambda chapter has had a rich history of upholding this rich legacy since 1940 in the Coastal Empire community and continues to move onward and upward toward furthering its services in our community Below are a few of the continued efforts and initiatives sponsored by the chapter to better our community and support local youth who aspire to achieve higher goals Scholarships to deserving high school students in the Coastal Empire area Male values and teen pregnancy workshops Guess speakers and presentations to local youth on leadership development and citizen education Promote and support historically black colleges and universities and their students Sponsor and providing opportunities for local youth and college students to network at professional events and cultural activities Promote the Fraternity s Go To High School Go To College national initiative Promote citizen empowerment civic education voter registration voting and political action in the Coastal Empire Active engagement in community and civic leadership to influence greater opportunities for local use and citizens in need

Zoe Asani Bailey Zoe Asani Bailey the daughter of Mr Mrs Howard Bailey Atzmayah is a 2020 Honor Graduate of Alfred Ely Beach High School in Savannah Georgia Her school activities included Educational Talent Search ETS Health Occupational Students Association HOSA FBLA Student Leadership Program SLP volleyball and track She was also selected as Best Dressed and Best All Around by her senior class Zoe was a 2020 Scholarship Recipient from the Grady Young Foundation Her community involvement includes being a member of Savannah Chapter of Top Teens of America Student Youth Ambassador SYA and Emerging Youth Leaders EYL She also volunteers with Save Our Youth Savannah American Cancer Society and several other local organizations She is an active member of St Benedict the Moor Catholic Church where Rev Romanus Ezeugwu is pastor Zoe currently attends Georgia Southern University where she is majoring in Biology Her plans are to earn a degree in Nursing and pursue her dreams of becoming a Nurse Practitioner
Haile Miniya Briggs Haile Miniya Briggs the daughter of Dr and Mrs Cori Briggs Candice is a 2020 graduate of Savannah Arts Academy Her school activities include Georgia 4 H State Chorus National Spanish Honors Society and National High School Scholars Society She served as the 2019 2020 Georgia 4H Southeast District Vice President and is a Master 4 Her She was a 2019 scholarship recipient from Brownsville Preparatory Institute as well as the Phi Alpha Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority s 2020 scholarship recipient Her community involvement includes over 300 hours of volunteering with organizations including Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia Helping Hands Helping Hearts Habitat for Humanity American Red Cross and United Way to name a few Haile is currently a student at Spelman College where she majors in Economics and has a minor in Management and Organization She plans to graduate with a Bachelors in Economics in the year 2024 and begin a successful career in private equity
Sha Kaylin Arnise Bryant Sha Kaylin Arnise Bryant the daughter of Mr Mrs Samuel Bryant Sha Von is a 2020 Honor Graduate of Woodville Tompkins Technical Career High School in Savannah Georgia Her school activities included volleyball Varsity cheerleading Medical Explorer Post and Dual Enrollment while being a member of Junior Marshal Beta club National Honors Society DECA and FBLA She also was Senior Class Secretary and earned her Nursing Assistant Certification in the medical pathway at her school She was a 2020 Scholarship Recipient from the Chantal and Tommy Bagwell School of Kennesaw State University Her community involvement includes participation in the Rock n Roll Marathon the brown bag giveaway for those in need and helping to teach elementary school students with Junior Achievement She is a member of New Generation Full Gospel Baptist Church where Bishop Norris D Darden is pastor Sha Kaylin currently attends Kennesaw State University where she will major in biology Her plans are to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology following the Pre Med track and become an OBGYN
Caleya Nicole Cutter Caleya Nicole Cutter the daughter of Mr Mark Cutter Mrs Candice Brown is a 2020 graduate from Woodville Tompkins Technical and Career Institute in Savannah Georgia Her school activities included Varsity Cheerleading junior and senior year Hosa freshman and sophomore year FBLA junior and senior year the school s healthcare program and was also a part of the Medical Explorers Post program During her high school career she took four classes under the healthcare program which allowed her to earn her Certified Nursing Assistant certification CNA The fourth class gave her an opportunity to earn a Patient Care Technician certification PCT but due to the COVID 19 outbreak causing the schools to shut down she wasn t able to continue with the class On top of being in high school maintaining good grades working and participating in extracurricular activities she took it upon herself to start her own small business In her business she went under the name of Drl minks where she got certified to do lash extensions sold lashes and lash products She then grew a passion for hair and added aspects of that into her business as well Caleya has volunteered at The Place at Pooler nursing home where she was a team leader of her classmates helping and working with the elderly As well as volunteering at many other events during high school for community service She is a member of Clifton Baptist Church where Reverend Craig Doughtry is pastor As a member of her church she sings in the adult and children s choir She has actively been involved within her church since she was able to walk and talk Caleya currently is enrolled in Georgia Southern University where she is majoring in nursing Her plans are to earn her Bachelors of Science Degree where she wants to become a nurse practitioner She also wants to go to beauty school to become licensed in hair and to become a licensed esthetician to one day open up her own salon and healthcare facility
Mariah Esther Jamilah George Mariah Esther Jamilah George the daughter of Rev and Mrs Marco George and Myrah is a 2020 Valedictorian and Superintendent s Honor Graduate of Savannah Early College Highschool in Savannah Georgia Her school activities included Captain of the Varsity Cross Country Team President of Savannah Early College Beta Club Chapter Vice President of the Senior Class Secretary of the Principal s Student Advisors Cobra Chronicles Yearbook Publication and National Honor Society She was also dual enrolled at Savannah State University for 3 years completing a World Language Pathway She was selected as Most Likely to Succeed by her Senior Class She was a 2020 Scholarship Recipient from Fisk University Provost Office Davis Putter Scholarship Fund Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc the Savannah Alumnae Chapter and the Grady Young Foundation Her community involvement includes being the Vice Chairwoman of the Chatham County Youth Commission A conglomerate of 10 12 graders in Chatham County who act as a voice for youth hosting events meant to engage her peers in her community having direct involvement in local government processes and volunteering in the community extensively and being a member of Deep Center s Block by Block a critical literacy program that uses art and culture to help high school aged youth move through grief heal participants and their communities and reclaim forgotten stories of Savannah pastor She is a member of The Historic First African Baptist Church where Reverend Thurmond N Tillman is Mariah currently attends Fisk University where she will major in Sociology Her plans are to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and become a Social Worker Child Advocate Lawyer and Court Appointed Special Advocate
Deja Jordan Gillans Deja Jordan Gillans the daughter of Mr and Mrs Donovan Gillans Selina is a 2020 Honor Graduate of Herschel Victoria Jenkins High School in Savannah Georgia Her school activities included servings as President and Vice President of Student Council and she served as a district representative of Georgia Association of Student Council during the 2016 2018 school years Deja also participated in the Medical Explorer Post and the Communications and Media Explorer Post Programs Her other extracurricular activities included being a member of the varsity cheer leading squad and performing in the band on the Crimson Delights dance line Deja was also a participant in the African Methodist Episcopal Church s Masters and Debutante program She is a member of St Philip Monumental African Methodist Episcopal Church where Reverend Dr Bernard Clarke is pastor Deja has served as a Sunday teacher for the cradle roll a member of the Kids n Praise choir and the junior usher board She has also held the office of histographer statistician and First Vice President in the Old Georgia Conference for the Sixth Episcopal District Deja currently attends Georgia Southern University in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program with plans to become a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse Practitioner She is a fall 2022 new initiate of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc the fundraising chair for the Black Student Nurses Association vice president of the National Council of Negro Women Initiate advisor for Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and a general body member of Leading Women of Tomorrow and the service organization Restoring the Breech She is actively involved in the community through her work in each of these organizations Deja has successfully remained on the Dean s List during her matriculation at Georgia Southern University and also holds down two part time jobs
Ja Niyah Ashanti Griffin Ja Niyah Ashanti Griffin is the daughter of Mr Michael King Ms LaToya Elam along with my influential fathers Thurnell Griffin Jr and Joel Elam Sr Biologically and by marriage I have six siblings Jaylen Griffin Miracle King Keyuhn Washington Jada Elam Joel Elam Jr and Jacobe Elam I attended New Hampstead High School in Bloomingdale Georgia from 10th to 12th grade While there I participated in Blazing Brigade Marching Band as a member of the Color Guard team I previously attended grade school at Sutton Middle School Lovejoy Middle School and Fayette County High School while living in the Atlanta Metro Areas I proudly participated in dance and cheer teams along with some gymnastics I attend Overcoming by Faith Church located in Savannah Georgia being a member of this church has helped me grow in my faith and as a person giving me high moral standards I am currently working on my career in modeling Modeling has always been a passion for me after winning several pageants and having numerous photo shoots in Atlanta Savannah and New York I am confident that my portfolio will get me signed to a well established agency and hopefully the cover of Vogue Magazine in the future She understands the importance of education and will be attending Savannah Technical College with a major in Early Childhood Care in January 2021
Kayla Le Shay Hall Kayla Le Shay Hall the daughter of Mr Tavares T Brown and Ms Deanna L Hall is a 2020 graduate of Woodville Tompkins Technical and Career High School in Savannah GA completing the early childhood education pathway While attending Woodville Tompkins Kayla played varsity volleyball and was the Lady Wolverines Basketball Manager Kayla enjoys working with and advocating for children of various backgrounds She attends Liberty City Church of Christ where she s been involved with the Youth Enrichment Program YEP She has worked as a preschool intervention paraprofessional and is currently working with the social services unit with the Department of Family and Children Services During her spare time she enjoys reading watching movies and spending time with family Kayla currently attends Coastal Pines Technical College majoring in early childhood education Kayla s plan is to transfer to Valdosta State University to obtain a Bachelor of Science in elementary education Kayla s goal is to become an elementary school educator as well as an applied behavior analyst She has a passion for working with
Brianna Victoria Harris Brianna Victoria Harris the daughter of Alpha Brother Dr George Harris III Cathy Kennedy 1987 Debutante is a 2020 Honor Graduate of St Pius X Catholic High School in Atlanta Georgia Her high school activities included National Honor Society National Latin Honor Society Governor s Honor Program Semifinalist for Foreign Language Robotics team Music Tech team Advanced Guitar Ensemble Section Leader Model United Nations Executive Board SACS Southern Association of Colleges and Schools student accreditation representative and Lion Leader In her senior year Brianna was honored with the Advanced Guitar Director s Award by her peers in recognition of her effective leadership skills and exceptional talent Brianna is a multi instrumentalist having both formal guitar and piano training As junior she and two of her guitar ensemble members formed an all female band They have written produced performed and globally distributed their music across multiple streaming platforms As a pianist Brianna has been featured at many venues having the opportunity to perform the works of Mozart Tchaikovsky Chopin Miles Davis and OutKast to name a few Brianna s community involvement includes working with the 2020 Georgia Democratic Party 2018 Stacy Abrams Gubernatorial campaign collaborating with the community as a member of Southern Truth and Reconciliation providing grocery delivery for the sick and shut in and volunteering to distribute free meals to the homeless Brianna is an active parishioner of St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Atlanta Georgia where Reverend Father Victor Galier is the pastor As a service focused member of St Anthony she has been a lector altar server choir musician and held leadership positions at the parish and district level with Junior Daughters of the Ladies Auxiliary Knights of Peter Claver Brianna currently attends Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana She is the inaugural recipient of the Justice Sonia Sotomayor Social Justice Merit Scholarship Brianna an Honor College student is a double major in Political Science Pre Law track and Sociology with a minor in Music As a social justice champion her ten 10 year plan includes graduating from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts degree attending law school successfully passing the Georgia bar exam and servicing her community as a civil rights attorney
Kyra Janae Elaine Harris Kyra Janae Elaine Harris the daughter of Mr Marvin B Harris and Ms Janice Dandy Harris is a 2020 Honor Graduate of New Hampstead High School in Savannah Georgia Her school activities included National Honor Society Future Business Leaders of America Rotary Interact Club Marching Band former Saxophone Section Leader and Woodwind Captain Honors Marching Band Junior Achievement Student Government Association the Communication and Marketing Explorer Post Program and the Secretary of State Student Ambassadors Program She was the March 2020 Superintendent Student of the month for the Savannah Chatham County Public School System and was selected as Most likely to be President by her senior class She was a 2020 Scholarship Recipient from the Fort Valley State University Alumni Association Savannah Chapter Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church GA Hope and FVSU 1890 Scholarships Her community involvement includes being a member of Youth Empowerment Series through the Georgia Department of Human Services Chatham County Youth Commission Savannah Chapter of Top Teens of America a national co educational program which includes cultural academic and civic activities volunteers projects and other worthwhile endeavors She is a member of Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church where Reverend Quentin J Morris Sr is pastor Kyra currently attends Fort Valley State University where she will major in Agricultural Economics Her plans are to earn a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics and become an Agricultural Economists
Madison Nicole Lambert Madison Nicole Lambert the daughter of Mr Tharon Lambert and Ms Karen Lambert is a 2020 graduate of Savannah Early College High School in Savannah Georgia Her school activities included National Honor Society Spanish Club and Beta Club She was featured at her school as an Outstanding Senior Her community involvement included participating in Savannah State University s journalism and multimedia program volunteering with the Savannah Striders Running Club and volunteering with St Joseph s Candler Hospital s Youth Volunteer Program Madison currently attends Mercer University in Macon Georgia where she will major in Biology Her plans are to earn a Bachelor of Science degree and become an anesthesiologist
Maria Janese Lotson Maria Janese Lotson the daughter of Mr and Mrs Marcus K Lotson MarRonde Lumpkin Lotson 1988 Debutante was a 2020 graduate of Saint Vincent s Academy in Savanah GA She is the eldest of two daughters Maria is a highly engaging intelligent and purpose driven young lady Throughout her school career she involved herself in a cross section of activities that fostered the development of strong leadership skills that will serve her well in the future She was a member of the Savannah Youth Council and continued her civic engagement as a three year member of the Chatham County Youth Commission She was elected freshman class representative to the SVA student council She served president of the Spirit Club and was a member of the Spanish Club Maria also served as team manager of the SVA Track Team where she lettered She has given her time and service on numerous other ad hoc school committees Maria was a member the Delta GEMS and was elected President of the Savannah Teen Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc Maria understands service to the community giving more than 500 hours in service and earning the United States Presidential Volunteer Service Award recognition She enjoys working with kids as she has been a camp counselor for 4 years with Camp Savannah at Jewish Educational Alliance JEA She has enjoyed the arts as well having danced for more than 10 years with Maxine Patterson School of Dance winning several awards and recognitions as a member of the dance company s competition team She participated in the performance band and played the flute until she entered high school Maria is a member of Resurrection of our Lord Catholic Church where Father Robert E Chaney is the pastor Maria presently attends Clark Atlanta University where she majors in Psychology Her career goal is to be in private practice as a psychologist
Chloe Krishonn Screen Chloe Screen is the daughter of Mr Christopher Screen Sr Ms Ilov Addison She is an honor graduate of Savannah Early College High School She was a dual enrolled student at Savannah State University where she earned 35 college credits and her school activities included National Honor Society Beta Club and the Student Leadership Program She has received the Honor Graduate Award Student Leadership Program Award and the CTAE Award Her community involvements included being the Corresponding Secretary of Top Teens of America and completing over 100 hours of community service She is a 2020 scholarship recipient for Savannah Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta and Swing Phi Swing Sorority She is a member of St John Baptist Church where Reverend Dr George P Lee III is pastor She was also a member of G E M S Girls Evolving Into A Mature Society a member of the P U R I T Y praise dance ministry and is currently a junior deaconess Chloe currently attends Valdosta State University majoring in Mass Media and minoring in American Sign Language While in the Mass Media program at Valdosta State University I hope to learn skills that will help me further my knowledge in the field of Mass Media such as editing producing directing screenwriting and hope to improve her knowledge of American Sign Language Her future plans are to become a film director and to own her own film production company in order to give other young directors actors and producers a chance to shine learn and improve their skills She hopes that with her company she can create mass media jobs for students who are just starting their careers Her favorite scripture is Psalm 139 14 I will praise thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made marvelous are thy works and that my soul knoweth right
Nyssa Imani Sims Nyssa Imani Sims is the daughter of Mr Quincy D Sims Ms LaToya C Sims She is also the granddaughter of Mr Earl and Mrs Betty Miller Ms Corethia W Sims and Mr Jimmy and Mrs Mischel Sims Nyssa is a 2020 graduate of Parkview High School located in Lilburn Georgia As she matriculated at Parkview Nyssa was a member of the MCJROTC the Black Student Union and Chorus She is a member of St John Baptist Church The Mighty Fortress She is a H O P E Scholarship Recipient and is currently a 1st year college student at Augusta University located in Augusta Georgia where she is a Biology major As she matriculates at Augusta University her long term goal is to become a veterinarian In her spare time Nyssa enjoys cooking reading and coloring
Amira JaKii Toure McCall Amira JaKii Toure McCall the daughter of Alpha Brother Dr Amir Jamal Toure Ms Kiisha Versuan McCall is a 2020 National Honor Society graduate of South Effingham Highschool in Guyton Georgia Her school activities included HOSA Health Occupations Students of America National Honors Society and Math Society She was also dual enrolled at Point University while in high school Her community involvement includes DEEP writing organization and a reigning princess for Tea N Tiaras Amira is a volunteer with Dominique s World and volunteers as the Youth Summer Activities coordinator for Day Clean Journeys Amira has participated in the Savannah Summer 500 with the City of Savannah She was a member of the City of Savannah Youth Ambassadors Amira is also active with the Audio and Visual Ministries at Grace Full Gospel Church Amira has a passion for Gerontology and Pediatrics she assists in taking care of her elderly Grandmothers as well as maintains their medicine management She volunteers with the Armed Forces Family Care Unit helping with childcare and tutoring Amira is member of The Cathedral St John the Baptist as well as Grace Full Gospel Church were Bishop Steve O Bulloch is pastor Amira currently attends Clark Atlanta University dual majoring in Biology and Psychology on a premedical track Her plans are to become a Pediatric Cardiologist She is a champion for racial and gender equality She strives to eradicate the glass ceiling for black women in healthcare Amira believes in giving a voice to the voiceless Amira s philosophy Paradise lies at the feet of the Mother When women are elevated our society will be elevated Amira is the materialization of the dreams of her ancestors she understands her obligations of success are not for herself but for the benefit of others Amira means Ruler Princess Leader she understands her role to humankind She seeks to be the vanguard of the vanguard she knowns her purpose and is a leader for the journey
Larkyn Nicole Tremble Larkyn Nicole Tremble the daughter of Mr Phillip Tremble and Dr Gayle Tremble is a 2020 Honor Graduate of Woodville Tompkins Technical and Career High School in Savannah Georgia Her school activities include being a member of BETA Club member of the National Society of High School Scholars Treasurer and member of Woodville International Students of Excellence Vice President of Family Career and Community Leaders of America dual enrollment student and member of the National Spanish Honor Society graduating as one of three students who received the 2020 International Skills Diploma Seal Her community involvement includes being a summer youth volunteer for three years at Hilton Head Regional Healthcare and St Joseph s Candler Hospital volunteering over 200 hours in areas of the hospital to include Infusion Services Mother Baby Area and Gift Shops She is a member of Mt Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church She is scholarship recipient of the 2020 Megagenesis Beta Phi Lambda Foundation Inc and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc scholarship She has also been awarded the Pooler Lions Club College Scholarship and the Hilton Head Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Larkyn currently attends Georgia Southern University where she will major in Health Sciences with a minor in Spanish Her plans are to earn a bachelor s degree and eventually become a registered nurse
