ABOUT TEACH STUDENTS MONEY EXPO Teach Students Money Expo is an experiential learning program for grades 7 12 students that combines high energy interactive sessions to educate students on realworld financial life skills Through this Real World simulation students move to a new city EightVille and assume the role of 28 year olds in Central Florida who are provided a credit score and monthly salary for their chosen education and career and family scenario Students must visit each storefront and make decisions concerning their standard of living e g a one bedroom apartment versus a three bedroom home and prioritize needs versus wants to adapt to life s complications without permanent consequences The simulation represents actual businesses in the community and a host of volunteers that operates 20 storefronts Students spend their salaries on items typically found in a monthly budget by visiting the appropriate storefront including housing utilities groceries insurance childcare and transportation Like all adults students must keep track of their finances throughout the timed activity and attempt to complete the simulation with a positive balance Students sit down with a financial counselor during the post simulation lesson to reflect on their experience and review their financial decisions 8 CENTS IN A JAR 2022 TEACH STUDENTS MONEY EXPO RESULTS 02

TOP EXPO ENTREPRENEURS For the second year in a row the Orlando MBDA Business Center and newest partner 3D Strategetic Management Inc mentored students interested in entrepreneurship as a career As an entrepreneur in EightVille student residents developed a business pitched their ideas to investors sold their products and services and used their net profit to make a living in EightVille From the 62 students that selected entrepreneurs as a career track the Orlando MBDA Business Center selected the top five students with the best overall business idea market innovation and creativity in creating a new business The top winners were recognized by all attendees and received the opportunity to continue developing their businesses and make their entrepreneurial dreams a reality Of the five finalists the grand prize winner Neha Jain a senior at Dr Phillips High School received a six week internship with the U S Department of Commerce and a 600 summer stipend Students quickly realized that money does not magically appear as an entrepreneur and grit is required if you want to sustain self employment Our survey results concluded 72 81 of entrepreneurs asked for part time jobs citing their income was unstable of entrepreneurs will consider self employment as a viable career path 8 CENTS IN A JAR 2022 TEACH STUDENTS MONEY EXPO RESULTS 05

EXPO HIGHLIGHTS STUDENT RESULTS 99 of students learned a new financial life skill 91 of students set new financial goals at the expo 75 of students want to start money conversations with their parents after the expo PARENT RESULTS 89 of parents want to come back to next year s expo 44 of parents attended parent workshops while 52 remained with their students in EightVille 57 of parents were proud yet surprised by their student s financial knowledge and decisions COMMUNITY RESULTS 91 of vendors and volunteers want to come back and participate in next year s expo 83 of vendors and volunteers want more interactions with students and parents 80 of all attendees wanted a bigger space TAKEAWAYS FOR THE HOST COMMITTEE I want to invite my entire school next time and don t know if we will fit into the space After the game began I realized I needed more information about the other areas For example it would be great to have a map of Eightville The lines were long at the career center and banking centers Can we have more time with the banks and colleges I left the expo wanting to know more and open accounts But I did not know how to do that 8 CENTS IN A JAR 2022 TEACH STUDENTS MONEY EXPO RESULTS 07
