Friends On behalf of our board of directors it is my honor to welcome you to the 2017 Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame Induction Awards Ceremony presented by SCORE International Mr Gaughan and the South Point Hotel Casino and Spa are wonderful hosts and we thank them for hosting our event at their property again this year Tonight we will honor four outstanding individuals for their accomplishments We are pleased to welcome the Class of 2017 Dave Ekins Cliff Flannery Bill Savage and my long time competitor and friend Bob Gordon to the Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame There are now eighty seven members of this exclusive group Visit www ormhof org to learn more about them This evening we will announce the recipients of the 2017 Impact Awards presented by Glen Helen Raceway the ORMHOF Volunteer Award and honor an individual with the Louis Unser Never Give Up Award We will also be making a donation on behalf of our partners to a land use organization I would personally like to thank the ORMHOF board of directors business partners and individual members of the Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame for your support These are the companies and individuals who help us stay alive financially and there is room for more I am asking all of you in the off road industry to support the Hall of Fame with a three year financial commitment as an industry partner I encourage all to have fun bidding on the live auction items that will be presented throughout the evening The silent and live auction is our largest fundraiser of the year Thanks to those of you who are already helping we can continue our work to fulfill our mission of recognizing and honoring those individuals and organizations whose lifelong contributions to off road motorsports have set a standard for others to follow We are pleased to announce that we have successfully moved the Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame display of vintage vehicles to Jean Nevada inside the Gold Strike Casino thanks to the Herbst family and Nick Tsunis I look forward to a memorable evening the 50th running of the BAJA 1000 and a great 2018 God Bless America and Baja Enjoy your evening Mark McMillin Chairman of the Board Contact directors ormhof org

M ission The Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame has been established to recognize and honor those individuals and organizations whose lifelong contributions to off road motorsports set a standard for others to follow All of the nominees must have had at least fifteen years experience and involvement in off road motorsports The nominees must have built designed driven maintained owned prepared piloted promoted ridden or supported an off road vehicle They are characterized by their desire to win the mastery of their field and their courage to innovate H istory Off road racing has a rich history and so does the Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame In 1967 Ed Pearlman formed the first recognized sanctioning body dedicated exclusively to off road racing The National Off Road Racing Association NORRA The inaugural event produced by NORRA was the Mexican 1000 soon to become the legendary Baja 1000 After Pearlman stepped back from the role of off road racing promotion he dedicated his energy to recognizing and honoring those who had greatly contributed to the sport In January 1978 at the annual Off Road Equipment Association OREA banquet he inducted the first 16 members which included Parnelli Jones Steve McQueen James Garner and Don Francisco Pearlman introduced a second group of five inductees in 1980 Despite Pearlman s noble attempts to properly honor the sport and its inductees he was unsuccessful in finding a credible permanent home for ORMHOF Enter Rod Hall In 1995 racing legend Rod Hall acquired the remaining assets and name rights of NORRA Sifting through the boxes containing Pearlman s records and the memorabilia accumulated over the nearly thirty years since NORRA was formed he came across the remnants of Pearlman s efforts to establish an Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame Hall intrigued by the historical significance of such a find set out to bring Pearlman s vision to reality Rod brought together a strong board of directors and advisors with a clear mission to promote the sport of off road through the preservation of its rich history and traditions Each of the inductees has made a significant contribution to off road motorsports in at least one of the following aspects Business Engineering History Prestige of the Sport Design Growth of the Sport COMPETITION CATEGORY Includes Motorcycles and ATV s Off Road Racing Rally Rock Sports and Sand Sports RECREATION CATEGORY Includes Four Wheeling Motorcycles and ATV s PIONEER CATEGORY Includes Advocate Industry and Journalism NOMINATIONS The Board of Directors and Voting Committee encourage off road enthusiasts to nominate individuals for induction into the Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame There are many dedicated and accomplished people who deserve to be nominated Nomination packets are available starting February 1 2018 Completed packets are due by April 30 2018 For more information visit ormhof org or email nominate ormhof org

Off Road Innovator College student Bill Savage opened TMAG welding in 1972 After spectating the Baja 1000 in 1974 Bill was hooked It took him several years between finishing college and managing his busy shop before his first car was ready to race Bill entered the 1979 Baja 1000 winning his class It was then that NASA came calling inviting Bill to attend a meeting with NASA engineers They wanted Bill s help in designing and building a new Lunar Rover Bill jumped at the chance SPD built three Lunar Rovers and helped with testing NASA wasn t done with Bill yet next it was a Mars Rover they were wanting SPD went on to build two Mars Rovers for NASA and have since been involved with several more NASA projects TMAG has designed and built a wide variety of innovative off road parts and vehicles including VW production parts off road shocks steering systems and one of the first all tube space frame trucks ever built Among his many business ventures Bill partnered with Todd Clement and started Wide Open Baja a tour company that would give non racers the Baja 1000 experience The prototype cars were built at TMAG with another 42 cars being built at Todd s Horsepower Ranch in Baja In subsequent years Bill relocated his company and changed the name from TMAG to SPD Products Speed and Performance by Design SPD built off road trucks that went on to win many races including the Baja 500 and Baja 1000 Throughout his career as an off road innovator Bill has always circled back to his interest in keeping the racers safe He has written the rule books for countless major off road association for the past 37 years Bill has spent countless hours organizing teams to manage pre and post tech race inspections a thankless and controversial job to say the least Bill continues his quest to keep the racers safe in his current position as Technical Director for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series 14
