It s the Holiday Season The end of the year brings with it much joy and celebration maybe a bit of reflection and always dreams and plans for the year to come No matter what your family traditions are fun and festivities are likely to ensue Holiday decorating is often a big part of the celebrations and we are happy to say flowers hold a special place of honor in the d cor Flowers grace our tables and homes plants on our front door step welcome guests to a happy home We are so lucky to be a part of an industry that not only gets to work with product that instantly makes people smile all year long but we are a part of the most precious moments of holiday memory making When people gather and flowers are present it s something special something intangible that leaves a lasting emotional impression of heart and home This is a time of year we count our blessings and appreciate all the good things that have happened throughout the year It s with this sentiment we express our gratitude to our customers and friends for an incredible year It s because of your continued partnership that we celebrate another successful year providing gorgeous flowers throughout the United States We wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season and a fantastic new year filled with health and happiness Happy Holidays The Fresca Team

FARMS FRESH PICKS Ecuador Land of Novelty Flowers The equator located just north of Quito Ecuador is situated in one of the most ideal growing regions in the world The average temperatures rainfall and luminosity or hours of daylight and darkness create distinct microclimates perfect for growing vibrant healthy flowers Valleys nestled in between the picturesque Andes mountains have the good fortune of nutrient rich volcanic soil These favorable environmental conditions allow Ecuador s flower farms to thrive Ecuador produces some of the most unique and sturdiest stems available in the market today Some of the flowers we d like to feature aren t new to the market but have gained traction in recent years in the design and home d cor realm Event planners and bridal consultants have taken some of these simple flowers to the next level Cleverly showcasing their rich colors and unique textures designers have been able to show how incorporating these unique flowers can take bouquets and arrangements from ordinary to extraordinary Scabiosa At first glance you might be skeptical of scabiosa but don t let first appearances fool you This delicate flower blooms slow and steady lasting well beyond expectation The paper like florets are available in a range of colors including blackberry milky white lavender or strawberry pink Veronica Tall and wispy wildflowers Veronicas add height and accent texture Blooms open from bottom to top and usually last 5 7 days You will want to be sure to process and leave flowers to hydrate well before working with them in bouquets or arrangements Offered in a range of colors including white pink lavender and blue Ranunculus Upon arrival these flowers appear to be just a small bud but let them hydrate and WOW Watch their delicate petals slowly unfurl And by slowly we mean just that vase life of ranunculas with proper care and handling can be anywhere from 10 14 days These show stoppers come in a variety of colors such as white green pinks orange yellow red and burgundy Anenomes These flowers should arrive to you as a bud still unopened for optimum vase life Anenomes are typically sold in 35 40CM stem length but will grow and develop in water after processing Highly sensitive to ethylene you ll want to be sure to double check your dose of flower food water solution to be sure they are well fed and nourished Anenomes come in array of colors most common are white red lavender purple and blue

Tips Tricks Care Handling 1 Upon receiving flowers process immediately preferable or store in a 34 36 degree cooler with 75 relative humidity until you can process 2 Prepare a non metallic container with clean cold water and flower food solution Remember not too much and not too little The wrong dose will result in a reduced vase life Tip Buckets should be cleaned with an anti bacterial solution to prevent bacteria growth that could clog stems and prevent proper hydration 3 Remove any foliage from stems that would be below the solution level 4 Make a fresh cut at least 2 from the bottom of the stems with a clean sharp cutting utensil Tip Dip stems for a couple of seconds in hydration solution to increase the uptake of flower food This keeps the stems free flowing and guarantees maximum hydration Buying Tips 5 Place in prepared container and into the cooler immediately if not processing inside the cooler already Flowers will fully hydrate in 4 to 6 hours Keep in cold storage until ready to put out for sale at room temperature flowers will begin to bloom Ask Different flower varieties have different characteristics learning variety traits will help you select the best stems for your clients Avoid 1 Fully open blooms 2 Limp stems soft blooms 3 Damaged or diseased foliage and or stems 4 Blooms with mold or mechanical damage Tip Be sure to avoid extreme cold heat or drafts when displaying flowers What to look for Full green foliage firm stems flower blooms that are in the right cut stage
