The History of DSSN started way back between 1974-1979. Then called Stridsskyting (Combat Shooting). With the suiting name of Combat shooting league (stridsskytterligaen) IPSC was founded, as we all know in 1976 at the Colombia-conference in Missouri. And because of that, the Norwegian Practical shooting federation was established in 1979. In 2013 it was decided to change the name to Dynamic sport shooting Norway (DSSN) This was done to more legitimize our sport towards the government and the public. In 1992 the NROI was established and put under the control of the DSSN. In Norway we shoot all available disciplines (Sorry DK) Handgun Rifle Shotgun PCC As of 2022 we are 68 IPSC clubs and approx. 3600 members. We normally run about 5-6 lv3 handgun matches every year. - Editor Norway Ingebjørn Solheim Photo: Joakim Olufsen
Hemne pistolclub. In the middle part of Norway, in Trøndelag County to be exact, you can find a small place called Heim Municipality. (former Hemne municipality) It is here Hemne PK has its main charter, but the cluvb also has charters in Frøya and Aure. We are a small club, with only 55 active members, with what you can call a very different level of activity. In both DSSN (Dynamisk sportsskyting Norge) and NSF (Norges Skytterforbund) Hemne pistol club was founded in 1973, then they were at first linked to the Norwegian Shooting Association (NSF) and the Norwegian Sports Association (NIF). From 1973 until 2012, the club mainly operated with percussion/black powder, field shooting and various programs through NSF. It was in 2011 (Best gun ever) that the application process towards NFPS was started, but only in 2012 was the club linked up with NFPS, now known as DSSN. Then there was a higher focus towards dynamic sport shooting. And today, most of the activities take place in dynamic sport shooting. The club is fairly active thru the year, and over the years we have been lucky enough to work with Ola Skårlid. And started the project "River Meeting” in 2012, 2013 og 2014. After we had done the river Meeting for 3 years, The club needed a b break from doing big rifle matches, so we handed over the match to Agdenes pistolclub 50TH ANNIVERSARY FIFTY YEARS OF SHOOTING 1973 - 2023
Photo: Picture from award ceremony The River Meeting 2013 But we have been very active doing a lot of smaller rifle, PCC and handgun matches over the years. We decided in 2019 to try to have a big match again, and in 2020 we very awarded with NM i Classic, Production, Production Optics and Production Optics Light. And then as we all know, Covid came, and we had to postpone the match until 2021. we the match, with 17 stages. Award ceremony from NM Stamnesdalen 2021 Andreas Venås from Hemne PK been Norwegian Champion POL THE RIVER MEETING 2012- NM TWOGUN 12Stager 2013-Nordic Rifle Championship 12Stager 2014-NM TWOGUN/NM RIFLE 24Stages I 2014 This was a cooperation with Agdenes .
As we in 2023 have our big 50th anniversary, we are doing four big lv2s, 8 stages, and up to 60 competitors. The dates are: Rifle: 7. May PCC: 28. May Handgun 4.June Steel Challenge: 30.July. The club has a small but good group of shooters/RO's who are a little more active than others, these shooters/RO's think that in addition to the competition part of our sport,it is very social and enjoyable both together with members in their own club, and definatly getting to meet so many friendly shooters, RO, and Crew all around. Medals for the Anniversary matches. From DOR i 2022 4 out of 5 shooters represented the National team MAO: Andreas Venås, Arne Dalhøi, Jan Terje Jørgensen SAO-Lady: Solvor Haugnes with the support of the club chairman: Asbjørn Sagøy The members travel a lot, and participate in both national and international Matches. Both as shooters but also travel around and work as Ros. Some of the shooters have on several occasions represented Brownells and national teams within Handgun/Rifle and hold medals from several major matches. This is of course something that we are very proud of and it helps to give a good impression of the club. On top the old patch that was used in the period 1973-2016 In 2016 it was decided that we needed a new and updated patch, more true to the dynamic part of
No one can predict the future, but we know that it is the youth who represent the future, and we want to invest in them. That is why as a club we have purchased many club weapons, such as 9mm pistols, 22LR pistols and PCC. That beginners and juniors can use without this costing anything more than membership and ammunition. In addition, Juniors get to shoot most of our matches for free. As of today, we do not have our own range, but rent from the shooting clubs around us. Which gives us some restrictions on activity, but we hope in the long term that we can get our own range so that we can expand both the activity and our membership. We have no immediate plans to organize any more large events such as Level 3 due to the fact that we are a small club with currently varying activity, but we will probably be seen at many matches domestically and abroad for many years to come, both as RO /CREW and Shooters. Photo: Worldshoot2022 It is no secret that the WS has been moved for two years now, so we had great expectation to the match in 2022. As the Danish editor I followed the shooters everyday even with a time difference on 6 hours. Denmark had 6 shooters in Thailand competing at the WS2022 and most of them in different categories. Selcuk Kahraman and Lars Hagemann in PDO, Sissal Skaale in STD, Gert Hansen in CLASSIC and Ayram Shine and Martin K Mortensen in PD division. WORLD SHOOT IN THAILAND 2022
Photo: Worldshoot2022 Photo: Worldshoot2022 Lars Hagemann did a great job in the Senior Category in PDO division and with an awesome score of 467A-65C-6D and 1NS that gives Lars Hagemann the biggest A% on the Danish team, an amazing 86,80% Alpha hits through out 30 stages in different weather and rain. That is why experienced cant be bought in IPSC Sissal Skaale did a great job, and the drama was big when she got to the chrono and the ammo didn´t hit 170 FPS on the match. A lot of speculations has been made about the flight, handling, temperatures etc. but bottom line was that she was moved to standard minor instead of major. Sissal Skaale was not happy about it of course, but she was fully focused and gave it all she got an ended op with a score of amazing 429A-97C-9D-3M and 1 NS which gives her an A% of 79,74 and of course she missed out on 97 Charlie points when she was moved from major to minor But the European champion is not a quitter…
Photo: Worldshoot2022 Photo: Worldshoot2022 Gert Hansen had some problems in the beginning of the match, but he manages to compensate for the 15 mikes he had on the first 15 stages out of 30 stages. Weather conditions was a real game changer for Gert Hansen, but in the storm, he manage to score an awesome result in classic division 437A-75C-11D-15M and 0 NS which gives him the second-best Danish A% of 81,23 and finished 5th in the SS category… The Bossman strikes again. Ayram Shine is currently the Danish Champion in PD Lady category and she haven´t had so many years in IPSC yet, and therefore the lack of experience on the bigger matches comes to show when we are talking level 5 matches, experience is the key to keeping your head high in the difficult situations, none the less she manages to get the score of 400A-109C-17D-12M and 2 NS which gives her the A% of 74,35. Ayram Shine finished 12th in PD lady category. We are hoping to see more of her at the European Championship in Greece in 2023.
Photo: Worldshoot2022 Martin K. Mortensen is currently the 2nd in the Danish national championship overall category, and he has been battling with his knee for quite some time now. He was preforming great but a bit slow and had difficulty staying focused the last day or two. So, he lost some points to that, at a level 5 match they don’t show mercy, so that cost him some points, none the less he got the score of 409A-105C-17D-7M and 1 NS which gives him the A% of 76,02 and finished 93 overall in PD Division. We are also hoping to see more of him at the European Championship in Greece in 2023.
Photo: Worldshoot2022 Sissal Skaale did what no one expected after she had been moved from major to minor and finished in 3rd place in STD LADY Category. Big congratulations from us at the Areyouready Magazine. Great job Sissal Skaale.

Photo: Martin K Mortensen Diary from Thailand By Martin K. Mortensen Arrival: First impression of Thailand is the greetings of one guy following us all together from each plane to the customs area. Everything went smoothly with a delegate from IROA helping us and the police with our permits and checking everything is all right. We went straight to the shooting range for gun check and match ammo pickup. Got our entree passes and visitors pass for our supporters. The next day’s went with acclimatizing to the hot humid environment and see some parts of the city Pattaya. In the meantime, we dryfired in the hotel room to be ready maintain our abilities before the real action starts. The day before opening ceremony we went to another range to zero our gun but for 15 min you don’t get much other practice than making sure the match gun runs good with the match ammo.
Photo: Martin K Mortensen Photo: Martin K Mortensen Unfortunately, we also realized that some of the shooter using a dual based gunpowder lacked power factor, due to the high pressure and cold, from the flight, that makes the powder fibers crack and decreases in burn rate. We talked to some ammo companies and got told that they had experienced it before, and that single based gunpowder is less affected by this problem. Due to this issue, some could not use their own ammo, and had to by match ammo. While some went from major to minor. We arrived at Nong Nooch garden ready for the opening ceremony. We basically just waited around and hang out with the others until somebody told us were to go and wait the presentation of countries. They had quite a big setup with music, dancers, elephants, the royal naval guard and Maui Thai fighters. The royal naval guard presented us for a spectacular form off precision and timing in there tato exercise form. The Maui Thai fighters gave a presentation of all the ways to fight in the martial arts system. All in all, a very big and special experience.
Photo: Martin K Mortensen Day 1 Shooting in the afternoon made it a bit hotter than expected, but thankfully i was not affected as much as I thought I would. We teamed up with some really good guys and shooters as well and had a great time on the squad during the first day it was mainly short courses, and it was clearly a exciting day for all. Some kept their cool while others started of if minor mistakes due to nerves. In general, we had all sets of skills on the squad which made it a learning environment for some of us “new” shooters and made the motivation bigger to keep up with some and stay in front of others on every level. Day 2 Off day… Wearing my team Shield hawaii shirt, relaxing in the company of my girlfriend and met shortly with the others guys to go have dinner. And of course had a thai massage as well to be fully prepared for the coming days. Day 3 Shooting in the afternoon again and tried to stay hydrated was the main priority. I still kept it going on a good steady base with no errors but spending more time to stay within my personal goal.
Day 4 Shooting morning was way more humid than expected. Luckely it didn’t rain…. But it was still hot. We started of again woth a good compination of short and medium courses. It was still a bit tough starting of at 0630 in the morning after shooting afternoon the day before. But its all equal for everybody. Day 5 shooting afternoon It was easy to feel that the intensity in shooting was rising during the last days. The eyes got a bit more unfocused on the long distance targets and the plan an fast explosion in and out of position got challenged a bit more. I guess eaiting for so long at shoot so little during every day takes a bit of physics to overcome. Compared to a L3 match which is more intens but only for 2 days. On this day i started making mistakes. Unfortunently for us the most points where on the to last days. So it slowly got worse and worse for my performance. Day 6 shooting morning Last day of shooting it was wierd to realize that body and mind was tired from the last couple of days but still remain the same level of skills. On the hard targets like spwcial monkey swingers there were allways to hits. But then i lost the respect for the easy targets and messed up some stages woth some mikes on too easy targets.
Shooting for 5 of 6 days is a bit more tough that I expected. The experience was good all though I had to explain a lot of RO’s how to use overlays and especially gagecheckers. But beside that it was a nice experience spending a week with shooters way above my own level. Se their solutions to different stages. Talking pros and cons for everything. And building a good friendship over such a short time. I have got so many different perspectives and it’s so nice to share a cool sport across so many different countries. Going to Nong Nooch park for the closing ceremony, gave me a feeling of being a part of something big. Seeing all the people across countries and friends meeting each other far from home is really inspiring how the sport unites us all. We can all be friendly and competitors at the same time. Some better than others of course. Since i was from a small country with very few people we had one table all together. Some of the bigger countries had of course way more. The organization made sure we had enough food of various kinds and drinks enough to get full. During the dinner it was basically a steady flow for all the medalists to receive their medals and cheers from all of us. Some countries had everyone from the team to sing the national anthem. Regardless of their vocal finesse it was heartwarming to see them all singing and partying together to celebrate their buddies’ medals. Of course we as well cheered for our standard lady 3 place medalist, who worked a bit harder to stay in the top as she was set to standard minor after the chrono. She did a great job coming back from the chrono and shoot a lot more alfas on her way to the podium. After some hours in good company with the Danes and the guys from my own squad we finished of exchanging shirts, badges, and pins, and of course contact info to get more opportunities to come around the world to get more great experiences. And I will come back in 3 years in south Africa and do it all over again just a bit better.
