Hamworthy Recreaon Football Club was formed in 1948 as Hamworthy Engineering FC and played on the Sports Ground opposite the factory at Fleetsbridge in Poole (where the Tesco supermarket now stands). When the site at Fleetsbridge was sold to Tesco in the late 1980’s the football, along with the Sports & Social Club, moved to its current home at Magna Road, Canford Magna. At that me ‘Hamworthy Engineering FC’ were playing in the Bournemouth League (Division 1). The Club won the Bournemouth Senior Cup in the 1988-89 season, and aer winning the Division One Championship in 1991-92 ‘The Rec’ successfully applied to join the Dorset Combinaon League for season 92/93 when they nished 3rd. Success soon followed when the Club won a harick of Combinaon League Championships in 1993-94, 1994-95 and 1995-96. 'The Rec’ have lied the League Championship Trophy on another nine occasions, 2000/01, 2001/02, 2004/05, 2009/10, 2010/11, 2014/15, 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2021/2022 The Club have won the League Cup on six occasions - 2000/01,2006/07, 2007/08, 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2021/22. ’The Rec’ consider that their greatest achievement was in 1995, when not only did they win the League Championship, they also won the Dorset Senior Cup, defeang Weymouth Football Club from the Southern League by 3 goals to nil at Magna Road in the Semi-Final, and Poole Town FC, another Southern League team, 4 - 1 in the Final. The 2001-02 season saw the Club change its name to Hamworthy Recreaon FC to reect the name of their current headquarters. Our proud boast – we’ve never nished below 6th since Hamworthy Engineering joined the Combinaon in 1992/93. Aer football leagues were curtained for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 Seasons through the Coronavirus pandemic our First Team connued its good form in the DPL for the 2021/2022 season by winning both the League and Cup Compeons. During 2022 with funding support from the Football Foundaon and local sponsors we managed to get the ground upgraded to have oodlights and a 50 Seat Stand and so have progressed to the Wessex League Division 1. In our rst Season in Wessex League Division 1 we had a slow start but managed to nish fourth. In the play o for a Premier League place we lost in the semi-nal. Our Development Team also had a successful season by winning the Hampshire Combinaon and Development League (West) to progress to the HCDFL Premier Division for 2023/2024.

VERWOOD TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB HISTORY - Established 1905! Originally believing the club to be formed in the 1920’s , we now have informaon to show that it was formed earlier than this in 1905 and aliated to the Dorset County FA that same year. Despite the early on-eld results, the club ourished and aer an inial move to the recreaon ground, connued to play home games there unl 1986 when it moved to Poerne Park. According to long established club members and ex-players, traveling in and around Dorset by steam train and changing behind well layed hedge rows proved conducive to good team spirit and oered a dierent slant to country life. During the war years matches were organised against army teams. De-mob saw ex-players reunited re-establishing it's winning ways bringing minor and junior trophies to the village. Returning also were local hoslies, parcularly the annual bale against Cranborne. Memories recall one parcular game when police were called from Wimborne to control the crowd and restrain the reverend Williams from striking the referee with his walking sck. Fortunately we don't get that sort of trouble anymore. Moving from Dorset FA to Bournemouth FA gave us a chance to broaden our horizons. The early 1960's saw some of the club ocials involved with the villages youth side Rossgarth YFC. These links connued with an increasing number of players (and management) coming through the ranks of local youth football. In 2017 the two clubs merged, cemenng their close es. An ambious move to Poerne Park in 1986 and a strong willing commiee brought the club in 1989 to Hampshire League football. High league posions achieved and promoon to Hampshire League Division One in 1993. It was during this period that with the growth of the village into a town our new name Verwood Town Football Club was established. In 2004/5 the Wessex League amalgamated with the Hampshire League and formed three new leagues. Verwood Town joined the new Sydenhams Wessex League Division Three. Two seasons and a great deal of eort o the pitch, erecng dugouts, hard standing and stands were rewarded with a third, place nish and promoon to the newly renamed Sydenhams League (Wessex) Division One.

Match Report by Mike Pomeroy (John Hutchings’s Temporary Understudy) Hamworthy Recreaon v Folland Sports – 28th March 2024 Immediately on kick o heavy rain blew across the pitch from behind the main stand jusfying the move of this xture from the BJM Stadium at Magna Road to the 3G Pitch at the County Ground to guarantee the game. Within a minute of the kick o Folland Sports had two quick corners, scoring from the second aer a scramble in front of goal. One minute in and it was 1-0 to the visitors. And then on four minutes a Folland Sports forward beat our defence high line to go one on one with our keeper, May Fredericks, to score their second. Four minutes aer kick o and for the rst me this season Ham Rec were 2-0 down. And we can’t blame the rain it was just that Follands got into the game from the start with intenon of beang the top of the table team. The Green Army knew what they had to do and on 15 minutes from an assist from our longest serving player, Ash Boyt, Brian Foulger beat the keeper for the score to be 2-1 to the visitors. From a free kick from Ben Cooper, Ash Boyt then got his own goal on 30 minutes via a deecon to beat their keeper to make the scores level at 2-2. And so it stayed unl half me. There was not much to report on from the rst 28 minutes of the second half except that it stopped raining. But then, in the 73rd minute a perfect lobbing pass from Louis McWilliams found Ben Cooper who calmly sloed the ball home to make it 3-2 to Ham Rec. The Folland Sports keeper, Kian Stearman, kept coming a long way towards the half way line to take free kicks and to encourage his forwards. In the 89th minute of the game George Deem watched the keeper do this again and from 40 yards out George kicked the ball high in the air towards their goal and as soon as it le his foot you knew that it was going in. The nal score was 4-2 to Hamworthy Recreaon to keep us top of the table on 81 points, 5 points ahead of nearest rivals, Millbrook and Downton, with four and two games in hand respecvely. With thanks to Folland Sports for agreeing to the move to County Ground and an entertaining game, to Hamworthy Utd for hospitality and moving their U18 training and to DFCA for the pitch arrangements.

Match Report by John Hutchings 23.3.24. Frimley Green 0 Hamworthy Rec 3 In the end this was a comfortable win for Rec, but until they claimed their second goal on 69m there was always a chance Frimley could have upset the odds. Louis McWilliams was the Rec hero, notching two fine goals and completing his hat-trick with a late penalty. But it was another good performance from Rec and could have been even better with more accurate finishing. Rec went in front after just 5m, when McWILLIAMS ran on to a pass, held off a challenge and finished in style, from outside the area, to put the visitors in front. It was nearly two, soon after, when Ash Boyt played in Chris Long, only for his right foot shot to fly wide. Frimley’s first chance saw Fred Jones curl his shot into the side netting. Rec were delivering dangerous crosses into the box, but home keeper McKelvie was confidently dealing with them and then turned away Tyler Rudd’s shot. HT 0-1. Rec needed a second goal to confirm their dominance, but George Deem sliced a chance wide after good work by McWILLIAMS and for Frimley, Smith had a half-chance also sliced wide. Brad Hill was catching the eye for Rec and his delicious cross into the box saw McKelvie deny Long. But on 69m Rec notched the much needed second goal. Aaron Roberts crossed from the left and McWILLIAMS was on hand to drill the loose ball to the keepers left and put Rec firmly in control. The third came on 81m when Roberts was needlessly brought down in the area and McWILLIAMS thumped the penalty high to McKelvie’s left. In the closing seconds Frimley were reduced to 10 men, when the impressive McKelvie was unluckily sent off for handling outside the area. FT 0-3.
