Greetings Family!Welcome to the 22nd Annual South Carolina Black Lawyers (“SCBLA”) Conference! Ipray that you are healthy and prospering in this practice of law! As we approach thetime for our Annual Conference, I have been reflecting on the importance ofSCBLA in our legal community. For me, SCBLA has served as a vibrant reminder ofthe contributions that black attorneys, past and present, have made to the legalprofession in South Carolina. SCBLA is the embodiment of the many things (intellect, ingenuity, compassion) that make me proud to be a part of this profession! As the current president of SCBLA, I am honored to continue the work of mypredecessors. I am excited about the signature events for which our organization hasbecome known. The Holiday Affair, the Legislative Fish Fry and, of course, ourAnnual Conference, are staples of SCBLA. The Holiday Affair (Friday, December 13,2024) is a time for SBLA members to celebrate the holidays, while highlighting thelegacy of excellence in our legal committee by honoring a trailblazing attorney withthe Ernest J. Finney Award. We also award law school students with scholarships, atthe Holiday Affair. Our Legislative Fish Fry (date TBD) provides us with anopportunity to interact with SC Black Caucus members and to discuss issues thataffect our community and profession with legislators. The Fish Fry also provides anopportunity for members interested in seeking judicial appointments to engagelegislators. Finally, our Annual Conference (Fall of each year) has proven to be a sourceof good information and renewal for members in every area of practice. Yoursupport is essential to the success of each of our signature events. We lookforward to seeing you at the Holiday Affair, Legislative Fish Fry and AnnualConference (2025)!Thank you for allowing me to serve as your SCBLA president!
