THE CENTER OF SOUTH FLORIDA TUNNEL TOP PLAZA As part of the rehabilitation of the Henry E Kinney Tunnel the construction of Tunnel Top Plaza will create a new pedestrian plaza on the north side of Las Olas Boulevard over Federal Highway and enhance Laura Ward Plaza on the east end of the Riverwalk connecting to the new river ARTSPARK ArtsPark is approved to use city owned land in Flagler Village to create a European style food hall and cultural center with a new publicly accessible greenspace 15

32 DOWNTOWNFTL 2022 DDA PRIORITIES GROW Downtown Fort Lauderdale is growing with major investments in real estate infrastructure and transportation The DDA continues to advocate for commuter rail service on the FEC corridor and supports a tunnel as the locally preferred alternative for the New River Crossing The DDA supports complementary investments through the County s transportation surtax to improve mobility within our region The DDA is advocating for opportunities to build workforce and affordable housing in the urban core and sustain a strong pipeline of downtown housing units The DDA advocated for the development of the new Federal Courthouse on the banks of the Tarpon River Scheduled to open in 2026 the new Federal Courthouse represents a major commitment by the public sector for the future of Downtown Fort Lauderdale CONNECT Downtown Fort Lauderdale is a welcoming environment where everyone comes together to celebrate community The DDA cultivates partnerships with local government not for profits businesses and neighborhoods to build a strong sense of community in Downtown Fort Lauderdale Annual reports produced by the DDA promote the value of Downtown Fort Lauderdale Key metrics related to the economics livability and sustainability of the urban core as well as comparisons with peer cities are continually monitored and reported to key stakeholders The DDA forges opportunities for the community to come together from art walks to rooftop bars to corporate meeting rooms IMPROVE Downtown Fort Lauderdale provides a safe and attractive environment for everyone to enjoy The DDA is in the process of reimagining Huizenga Park as part of a strategic approach to improve the DowntownFTL public space network The newly designed and constructed Huizenga Park set to reopen in 2024 will be our signature downtown open space for all to experience and enjoy The Tunnel Top Plaza project will introduce a new pedestrian plaza on top of the Henry E Kinney tunnel that better connects Las Olas Boulevard to the New River Opening by the end of 2022 the iconic public plaza will provide a seamless connection between the Las Olas and the central business district while also highlighting the special history of the tunnel The SW 2nd Avenue revival project provided an improved connection between the Brightline Station and A E Himmarshee District while urban acupuncture projects like murals plantings and new signage improve the public realm
