5Proud to be a long-standing member of the community Founded in 1877, Union Mills has been manufacturing and selling feed for farm animals, for six generations. Union Mills is a feed store that pro-vides freshly made horse, chicken, hog, livestock, and small animal feeds. They have a retail store that sells pet food, pet supplies, bird feed, gifts, hay, bedding, stove pellets, and more. Seven generations of the same family have been running Union Mills since 1877 with some of the original buildings still standing. Gabriel Trul-linger came over on the Oregon Trail and set up Union Mills in Mulino, Oregon, with his family. Union Mills is now owned by Bob Friedrich, 5th generation grandson. It is managed by Connie Friedrich, 6th generation granddaughter. Connie’s sisters, Heather Mann and Sherree Friedrich, also work at the mill in production and administration. They are one of a few original mills that still make their own feed. Union Mills caters to local families and farmers who want fresh feed made to their specications. Union Mills continues to grow and support the local community and farms as well. “Union Mills has been part of this community since it began. We pride ourselves on serving the people and farms in our area and outside the Molalla community. We work hard to serve our patrons by having a variety of events and items for sale, and we strive to make a top quality feed product. We also love to participate in community events and give back what we have been blessed with,” says Connie. So visit Union Mills today! They are located at 14822 S. Union Mills Road in Mulino. 16LEARN #MOLALLAGETTING TO KNOW USGETTING TO KNOW USMOLALLA AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY The Molalla Area Historical Society supports and operates an interactive adventure into the lives and times of Oregon pioneers, and those who came after. Rather than a virtual glimpse into how these pioneering families lived, it offers an authentic look with artifacts from the period. Along with fascinating exhibits, the society also sponsors the Quilt Show in the spring and the Apple Festival in the fall. The museum complex is open Friday and Saturday afternoons from April through October; special tours can be arranged. Member-ship in the society is open to all. Visit dibbhouse.org for more infor-mation about the Molalla Museum Complex. 620 South Molalla Avenue, 503.765.6432.CITY OF MOLALLA LIBRARY The library is a special place for so many residents. Adventures await the very young to the senior population. Those who work in libraries seem to have a welcoming way that encourages library use. Although the library is some-what different than it was in yesteryear, driven by technology and our “wired” age, it is still the place to nd, use and relish information and entertainment. As a member of the Clackamas County LINCC system, the Molalla Library reaches far beyond it’s borders, making all manner of books and digital media available in pretty short order. Do use and support the library; it’s a wonderful resource in so many ways. 201 East 5th Street, 503.829.2593, cityofmolalla.com/library.MOLALLA ADULT COMMUNITY CENTER Aging has its challenges, and for those of us who live long enough, no one is immune. That’s just one of the reasons that the Molalla Adult Community Center is such a vital resource to seniors in Molalla and the surrounding areas. In addition to serving lunch Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for a nominal fee, the calendar on their website shows how much goes on at the center. In simple terms, we take big rocks and turn them into little rocks – and then use them for construction or as components of asphalt or ready-mix concrete. On average, each American uses about 10 tons of aggregates (sand and rock) per year. To meet those needs, their team locates good sources of rock and sand, processes those ma-terials to exact specications and then delivers the product to our customers. They also use their aggregates to pro-duce asphalt and ready-mix concrete, which each require their own skilled quality-control and production teams. In Molalla, their team of 13 people pro-duces and delivers ready-mix concrete from our plant on South Molalla Forest Road. They also provide recycled concrete, crushed quarry rock, round rock and sand from the Molalla loca-tion. These products go into the local infrastructure, whether it’s a highway or a driveway. Knife River believes in building strong communities, and the only way to do that is hands-on. Whether it’s providing construction materials to build safe roads, bridges and building foundations, or getting involved in civic organizations and causes, their goal is to build strong communities by being directly involved in their betterment. Molalla is a beautiful area with good people and a bright future, near to where they’ve had operations for many years. When the opportunity came for us to move into town, we jumped at it. Bottom line: We believe in the future here and are excited to be part of it. Our Molalla team members live here and work here, and are invested in the success of the community. Oregon has chosen to invest in improving its infrastructure, and we are excited to see what the next several years have to bring! We are located at 13050 S. Molalla Forest Road in Molalla. Call us at 503-829-5555 or visit our website at www.kniferiver.com. One vision and one superior line of products Woodcraft Industries was founded by German furniture builder, The-odore Ritshce. 22NEIGHBORS #MOLALLAIT’S A WAY OF LIFEIT’S A WAY OF LIFE There is so much adventure in and around Molalla. Don’t let the lovely pastoral small-town feel mislead you for a minute. Here, there’s a way of life that makes it a wonderful place to live, work, make friends, raise a family, relish mountain views, marvel at the sunrise and the sunset and to take a breath of fresh country air. At the same time, there’s a hard-work-ing culture of commerce and profes-sional services offering much of what residents need and want. Going into the “big city” is a trip, while simply going into “town” so often just feels best. In 1913, the rst train arrived in Molalla. It had one passenger car attached and brought tourists to Molalla. A celebration for the rst train was held and that become the rst rodeo. A tradition that is still celebrated every year by the Molalla Buckeroo Rodeo. Later that same year Molalla became incorporated. Knowing that growth will happen, Molalla is looking ahead and making positive plans to accommodate the development and the people it will bring to the community. Local residents are encouraged to get involved with the planning process and be part of building an economically strong community that still keeps the warmth and friendliness of our hometown. Wherever you go, watch for the numer-ous gardens to visit and you might spy a winery. Tourism abounds in the greater Molalla area. It’s an environment that outdoor enthusiasts love, a chance to bike, hike, kayak, raft, swim and more. The chamber of commerce ofce is your resource for information about Molalla and the surrounding area. It is located at 109 East Main Street. While Molalla may be an anchor, smaller surrounding areas contribute their own special amenities and attrac-tions. Two of those communities are Mulino and Colton. In the heart of Mulino you’ll nd the general aviation Mulino State Airport and Ranch Hills Golf Course, a nine-hole public course with Milk Creek winding through it. Colton is an unincorporated area between Molalla and Estacada. It is a vista of Christmas trees and farming. Colton also operates its own school district serving kindergarten through 12th grade.
