A Message from our Superintendent Colleagues, Please accept my best wishes on your long-awaited and richly deserved retirement from the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. I applaud your years of service and achievement with our school district. I am delighted that you have completed your tenure with dedication and grace. I trust your career with us was an enriching experience as you worked with students, enjoyed time with colleagues, and strengthened families in our community. All current district employees can be inspired by your loyal service and efforts to make a positive difference in the lives of others. What I believe matters most is that your retirement ends in an era we will never see again. Reflections, Administrators David Feliciano Chief Technology Officer, Office of Technology and Business Systems David Feliciano began his career as a US Navy Data Systems Technician, transitioned into education and joined SCCPSS in 2006. Mr. Feliciano consistently seized opportunities to help the district progress. Under his leadership, SCCPSS successfully completed many initiatives, including technology upgrades, strategic waivers, technology plans, and navigated the District through COVID. He wore many hats—both literally during his lunch walks and figuratively while developing plans and leading his division. Congratulations on your retirement! Vanessa Miller-Kaigler Deputy Superintendent, Chief Operations Officer, Maintenance & Operations Vanessa Miller-Kaigler has made remarkable contributions during her tenure as Deputy Superintendent of Operations for SCCPSS. She played a pivotal role in addressing rezoning issues and developing the Long-Range Facilities Plan for the 2024-2025 school year. Despite challenges like a significant bus driver shortage, her efforts in transportation management and community engagement were commendable. With over 35 years in public administration, her dedication to improving the educational environment has left a lasting impact on the school district. Enjoy retirement! Craig Daughtry Principal, Beach High School Mr. Daughtry’s dynamic leadership style has left an indelible mark on our district. Stacey Mills Principal, Pooler Elementary Principal Mills worked hard to develop a professional working relationship with her assistant principal so operations in the building would be seamless. She built strong relationships with her business partners which afforded her several opportunities to provide experience and a school garden/learning area for the students. Principal Mills participated in the district’s attendance committee and was a mentor to new principals. She will be remembered for her dedication to student achievement! Kavonna Bostick Assistant Principal, Pooler Elementary School Mrs. Bostick was a dedicated and supportive Assistant Principal who led with compassion and consistency. Mrs. Bostick will be remembered for her calm, steady presence and her ability to build strong relationships with both staff and students, while creating a positive and nurturing school environment. Congratulations on your retirement! Kera Grant Assistant Principal, Islands High Mrs. Grant was a dedicated and extraordinary educator. Her commitment to student achievement and school culture was present every day she entered the building. Mrs. Grant was phenomenal at fostering positive relationships and encouraging students and staff to be their best. Her energy and thoughtfulness were on display every day as she went about her work. Mrs. Grant made a lasting impact on the staff and students of Islands High. Melissa Sukanek Director, Compensatory Programs Ms. Sukanek consistently demonstrated thoughtfulness and a willingness to serve her team with her colleagues. Ms. Sukanek was known for her exceptional fiscal problem-solving skills, attention to detail and in-depth knowledge of federal programs. Ms. Sukanek embodied the true spirit of a servant leader, and her contributions have left a lasting impact. We wish her all the best in retirement. Annette Wynn Executive Director of Planning & Programing, Maintenance & Operations Ms. Wynn was known as analytical, task oriented, and creative in meeting district’s goals. Her contributions to several major projects have advanced the district in becoming compliant with state expectations and advancing local long-range facilities planning. Reflections, Staff Rawland Alexander School Safety Officer, Campus Police SSO Alexander exhibited a very professional work ethic. He was well respected by staff and students. SSO Alexander’s expertise in the school camera system was instrumental in protecting students, staff and property. The department will miss SSO Alexander and his contributions. We wish him a very joyful retirement! Linda Alletto Paraprofessional, Hesse Elementary Linda Alletto’s presence has been a part of the fabric of our workplace. She has shown a great passion for students. Every individual contributes to the broader picture in their own way, and she will leave behind a legacy of her time spent here at Hesse. We wish Ms. Alletto all the best as she moves into this next phase of life. May retirement bring rest, new adventures, and the chance to enjoy what matters most to her. Debra Amerson Secretary, Windsor Forest High Ms. Amerson was a beloved member of the WFHS family who always greeted visitors with a smile. Ms. Amerson was dependent upon ensuring our school ran smoothly. She was instrumental in ensuring all classes were covered and provided support to everyone in need. Ms. Amerson, the Windsor Forest High School family wish you the best retirement ever! Kristen Arnott Special Education Teacher, Groves High Ms. Kristen Arnott was a devoted educator of 32 years who gave selflessly to support her students. Her energy and compassion are truly inspiring and the many students she has impacted on are forever changed for the better. We thank Ms. Arnott for her service and wish her well in retirement. Rhonda Barlow SNP Health and Wellness Coordinator, School Food Services Ms. Rhonda Barlow was an integral part of the School Nutrition Program. During her tenure as Coordinator, she was responsible for the direction and supervision of a select group of School Nutrition Program Café sites as well as department initiatives. As Health & Wellness Coordinator, she oversaw the District Wellness Policy and worked intimately with Principals regarding compliance. Ms. Barlow also assisted with the development of numerous school gardens.
Althea Barre Lead Data Analyst, Office of Technology & Business Information Systems Althea Barre played a pivotal role within the Business Information Systems department. Her ability to pivot as needed when working with legacy systems or the upgraded ERP system was a talent not possessed by many. Her role as a Lead Data Analyst was appreciated and will be greatly missed. Congratulations and enjoy your retirement! Veronica Bertos Special Education Teacher, New Hampstead High School Ms. Bertos has been an exemplary special education inclusion teacher. She provided support to the students as well as the regular education content teachers. She built positive relationships with all and will be deeply missed. Llona Bonds Administrative Secretary, Southwest Middle School Llona Bonds was a dedicated employee with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System for many years. The district appreciates Llona’s dedication to our students. Llona was a pleasure to work with and will be missed by coworkers and supervisors. Andrea Boyd Clerk, Business Information Systems Ms. Boyd was dedicated, hardworking, and a thoughtful employee. She did not take on her responsibilities lightly. Melissa Burns Spanish Teacher, Savannah-Chatham E-Learning Academy Melissa Burns taught both French and Spanish at the E-learning Academy. During her tenure, she was always a team player and was instrumental with assisting students with language acquisition. Ms. Burns also worked hard to ensure non-English speaking families were a part of the educational process for their student. We appreciate her contributions and wish her well in retirement.
Christina Chancey School Nurse, White Bluff Elementary Nurse Chancey was the nurse that other nurses consulted for guidance and support. Her unwavering commitment to excellence was evident in every aspect of her practice. Her positive attitude, infectious laughter, and willingness to go above and beyond left a lasting footprint on everyone. Our team is better for having served under Nurse Chancey’s leadership. We will miss Nurse Chancey and wish her a happy and well-deserved retirement! Patricia Clancy Elementary Teacher, Coastal Empire Montessori Ms. Clancy was a dedicated employee with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System for many years. Mrs. Colby was Project Director of the Teaching American History grant, Principal at Bloomingdale and Southwest Elementary, and worked in Compensatory Programs. She was a hard worker who worked well with all involved stakeholders. She was passionate about her work, and we will miss her contributions to the district. Delia Cooper Student Information Specialist, Beach High Ms. Cooper’s experience as an information specialist has served the Beach High community well. She ensured all data and information was correct. Mrs. Cooper was a diligent and dedicated employee who supported the vision and mission of Beach High School. Brenda Daniels-Freeman Mathematics Teacher, Southwest Middle Ms. Daniels-Freeman was a dedicated educator. She placed the needs of her students first and worked hard to ensure their success. Natasha Grant Business Teacher, Johnson High Mrs. Natasha Grant was a dedicated educator who led the Financial Literacy Pathway with structure, passion, and purpose. Known for greeting students at her door each day, she created a welcoming yet focused classroom environment. Through real-world learning opportunities and her loving but firm approach, she prepared students not just for exams, but for life. Her presence and impact will be deeply missed by the SCJ family. Karen Grashel Science Teacher, Rice Creek School Ms. Grashel was an outstanding educator who nurtured the confidence, curiosity, and kindness in every student she met. Linda Green Paraprofessional, Ellis School Ms. Green worked for SCCPSS for 33 years. She severed as an upper elementary Paraprofessional at Charles Ellis Montessori K-8 the last 6 years. Ms. Linda was voted Instructional Support Person of the Year twice during her career. In 2015 Ms. Linda was honored for her dedicated services at Juliette Low Elementary. Happy retirement! Wanda Hamilton SNP Assistant, Butler Elementary Ms. Hamilton was a dedicated worker who provided delicious and nutritious meals to students and staff. The students took great pleasure in engaging Ms. Hamilton as they came through the cafeteria. Mrs. Hamilton will be remembered for her pleasant attitude toward others and her helpful demeanor. Beth Jones Mathematics Teacher, New Hampstead High Beth Jones was one of those special teachers who made a meaningful and lasting connection with all her students. Whether teaching eager freshmen or mature seniors, Beth Jones provided real world connections and motivated her students to be successful. Ms. Jones love for Mathematics encouraged her students to work hard. We wish her well in retirement. Cheri Kramer Preschool Intervention Teacher, Isle of Hope The staff at Isle of Hope school celebrates the retirement of Cheri Kramer, a dedicated Preschool Intervention Teacher whose positive impact on students, families, and colleagues has been profound. Cheri consistently excelled in supporting students with disabilities, using her skill and patience to help them achieve crucial milestones. We thank Ms. Kramer for her invaluable service and wish her a joyful and fulfilling retirement. Denise Larkin Spanish Teacher, Groves High Ms. Denise Larkin was a wonderful and caring teacher who always put her students first. Her genuine compassion and unwavering support made a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Whether helping a student in need, assisting a fellow teacher, or being the Cheerleading Coach, she was always present with a kind heart and a helping hand. Edith Larry SNP Lead Assistant, West Chatham Middle Mrs. Larry was an extremely dedicated and hardworking person who truly cared for students and their well-being. She was a vital part of the positive culture at West Chatham Middle School and came to work daily with a smile and loving demeanor. Constance McCollum Teacher, Heard Elementary Ms. Constance McCollum joined the Gator Nation in SY24-25 and quickly became a shining light in our community, leaving a lasting impression on her students, colleagues, and families alike. Though her time with us was brief, her wisdom, warmth, and dedication to teaching made a profound impact that will be remembered for years to come. We wish her well as she embarks on this well-earned journey into retirement. Kimberly McDermott Student Information Specialist, Windsor Forest High School Ms. McDermott was the second Information Specialist in Windsor Forest High School history. The first was her mother. Ms. McDermott began working for SCCPSS in October of 1983, almost 42 years ago. She transferred to WFHS in 1985 and has been here ever since. Ms. McDermott executed everything through the book and took pride in disseminating clean and correct data. She is a castle staple and will truly be missed. Kristine Morris Media Specialist, Godley Station School Ms. Morris worked diligently to support and enhance instruction for students and helped the school to progress academically. Her dedication to the staff and students will never be forgotten. Congratulations on your retirement. You have worked so hard to earn this milestone. Meri New Teacher, Ellis School Ms. New was an extremely hard-working teacher who gave her all to her colleagues, students and parents. She went above and beyond the call of duty to provide guidance, assist with references and assist with creating documents and completing assignments. The Charles Ellis Montessori family will miss Ms. New and wish her a happy and joyful retirement. Carleen Odom Mathematics Teacher, DeRenne Middle Carleen Odom changed the world because she touched so many lives. Ms. Odom was truly a great teacher who will be impossible to forget. Mrs. Odom’s ability to maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment created a safe space for students to engage and learn. For her outstanding devotion and hard work, she has both earned and deserves the best retirement ever. Elizabet Parsons Teacher, May Howard Ms. Parsons was an elementary teacher for almost 30 years, most of those years at May Howard. Ms. Parsons was dedicated to teaching second grade, but more recently moved to an EIP teaching position where she impacted so many students by improving their reading and math abilities. She has also played an instrumental role in the MTSS process and was relied upon to ensure that everything was done properly. Ms. Parsons left her mark on May Howard and will be missed by all!
Wanda Paul Library Media and Technology Specialist, Butler Elementary Mrs. Paul was a warm and welcoming presence who always greeted everyone with a smile. She ensured that both students and staff felt supported and cared for when visiting the media center by creating a positive and inclusive environment. Her 32 years of service to SCCPSS are greatly appreciated. Carolyn Perry CTAE-Technology Education, Jenkins High Dr. Perry is an innovative teacher who loves to work with students to ensure that they achieve academic and personal success. Her love for this profession made her special. Dr. Perry with be remembered for her smile and her willingness to put her best foot forward and deliver high level instruction to her students daily. Jamal Piankhi Social Worker, Student Services Jamal Piankhi was a dedicated employee with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System for many years. Valentina Quarterman Instructional Coach, Beach High Mrs. Quarterman consistently served as the Professional Learning Liaison and the Site Based Induction Person for Beach High. Mrs. Quarterman was an exceptional teacher, academic coach and advocate for students. Mrs. Quarterman was willing to do whatever was necessary to impact student achievement. Linda Rahimitabar Occupational Therapist, Exceptional Children Ms. Rahimitabar was a seasoned Occupational Therapist. She was very instrumental in serving as mentor to new Occupational Therapists hired by the district. Ms. Rahimitabar exhibited such compassion for her students and always looked for ways to creatively connect with them. The department deemed it an honor and a pleasure to work with Ms. Rahimitabar and we wish her a happy retirement! John Reynolds Teacher, Gould Elementary School John Reynolds was a dedicated employee with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System for many years. She served in Charles Ellis Montessori K-8 school's cafeteria as the Lead Cafeteria Assistant for the past 5 years. Prior to serving as CEMA, Ms. Thorpe worked at Ise of Hope K-8 for 25 years.
