I have experienced first-hand the amount of planning and hard work that goes in tomaking this evening exceptional. I don’t think any of us realised just how much MarkByrne contributed to our Awards and I’d like to personally thank him for everything hehas done for the FPA.Without the incredible support from our sponsors, this event wouldn’t be possible, wewould like to wholeheartedly thank them. Thanks also goes out to the esteemedindustry professionals who gave up their time to be our Award judges.Once again, we received an unprecedented number of entries, across all Awardcategories. Our members continue to innovate, and it was such a pleasure to see thepride in your accomplishments coming across in your Award submissions. Thank you allfor sharing your achievements with us and good luck to each of our finalists.Some of you will know I have started the Packaging Professional Integrated Degree andApprenticeship course at Sheffield Hallam University. I cannot recommend it highlyenough. Funded through the levies you pay, it’s an ideal opportunity for some of youremployees (whether young or old!) to gain both a degree and an apprenticeship in thisfield, while at the same time acquiring an incredible amount of industry knowledge –incorporating materials, processes, and dare I say it, some of the truth aroundsustainability …The dedication and enthusiasm of my fellow students on the course gives mereassurance that the future of our industry is in safe hands. And this became even moreevident when I had the pleasure of interviewing our Rising Star finalists, alongside AnneSutton and Martin Kersh. Clearly, not only are the companies they work for proud ofthem, but our Rising Stars are proud of their achievements too – and rightly so. I hopeyou agree we have a worthy winner.Tonight, we’re here to recognise major achievements across all our Award categories,whether by companies or individuals. But as well as celebrating success, we’re also hereto have a good time, enjoy the excellent food and wine, and share some fun andlaughter.To our Award finalists – remember, you’re all winners for making it this far. And to thosedisplaying a trophy on their table by the end of the night, enjoy every second.
