THE VIEW | WINTER 20246CEO/GM REPORTDear Members, Each day, as I walk up from the lower parking lot, I pause to observe the progress of construction. Today, I was thrilled to see windows installed on Level 2, the future home of our new restaurant. This milestone brings us closer to fully enclosing the building, which means we’ll soon shift our focus to preparing the interior spaces. This January will mark one year since the start of Renew ’22 Phase 2 construction, and with our new facilities set to open in June 2025, we’re Members' patience and understanding as we navigate construction challenges—thank you for your continued support! For a complete update on Renew ’22, see the full report on page 12 or follow @renew22hcc on Instagram. Consistency is often the theme underlying member feedback and is essential to achieve higher levels of satisfaction and elevation of the dining experience.

THE VIEW | WINTER 20247Achieving this requires dedicating substantial time to developing comprehensive Standards of Service, which will guide training programs for both front-of-house and back-of-house teams. During these darker, wet months, we encourage everyone to drive carefully, avoid distractions, and take things slow. The main Member Lot and Fitness Parking Lot are in high demand due to their proximity to key areas (especially during construction!). THE VIEW | WINTER 20248Thank you all for your continued patience and support as we successfully navigate the second phase of Renew’22. I am thrilled to report that we remain both on time and on budget, a feat that wouldn’t have been possible without everyone involved. This milestone is a collective will be pleased with the results. Renew’22 stands as an example of a large-scale capital investment — one that, due to its magnitude, required special approval from Members. Collectively, our Club’s 225,000 square foot facility contains about $55 million in assets, to which Renew '22 Phase 2 contributed approximately $11 million towards replacement Renew’22 has and will contribute to a space we can all enjoy for many years to come. But the gains we have made with Renew’22 are not enough to sustain the Club into the future. The Board is not planning another large, singular project at this time. Instead, we are focusing on a multi-year strategic plan that addresses the nearly Plan as being in critical condition and a further almost $3 million as poor. These assets are vital to the Club's future and need to be maintained or replaced. While some of these items, like the replacement of air handlers, might go unnoticed, others, like corridor refreshes, are highly visible. All are impactful to our shared Member experience. it’s crucial to its longevity. This is a long-term investment, not only in the physical infrastructure but also in the community we cherish. The choices and contributions we make today — through our actions, respect, and care — will sustain and enhance this Club for both current Members and future generations. Let’s all take pride in this shared space, our shared community, and our shared future. Together, we can continue to build a Club that we are proud to call our own — for today, tomorrow, and the generations to come. Diane Kennedy Board ChairBOARD CHAIRMESSAGE

THE VIEW | WINTER 202410YOU SPEAK, WE LISTENMember: The live Music on Wednesday Nights in the Bar & Grill is excellent! Member: “There are very few available courts in the Hub on the weekends and currently a lesson has been booked from 9 to 10 on one of the two courts that are always booked Sunday mornings. I think it would be better that court 3 be booked for lessons as there is a drape separating the lessons from the two playing courts on 1 and 2 or the lessons take place in the gym.”Management: Thank you for getting in touch this morning with this court suggestion. I believe that it is a sensible compromise, and especially helps take into account Members like yourself booking the courts after the 10am timeslot. We will make the adjustment in the schedule.Member: “The hot tub renovation was a success as the quality and clarity of water is vastly improved. The lighting and water temperature is better. However, I have often found Members are leaving towels and other garbage nearby and needs to be checked on more often”. Management: Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention. Never Leave Children UnsupervisedSupervision is the most critical factor in preventing accidents around water. Always keep a close eye on your child whenever they are near a pool, even if they are not swimming. It only takes seconds for a child to fall into the water or encounter danger. Be within arm’s reach of toddlers and stay actively engaged, avoiding distractions like phones, books, or conversations. If you need to leave the pool area for any reason, take your child with you. Teach Children How to Swim EarlyAlthough very young children should not rely solely on their swimming abilities, teaching basic water safety and swimming skills is a good for children as young as six months. Teaching independently provides them with valuable survival skills. However, remember that lessons do not replace constant adult supervision. Install Barriers Around Your PoolIf you have a pool at home, ensure it is enclosed with a secure barrier. A four-sided fence with a self-latching gate that is at least four feet high is one of access to the pool. Pool covers, door alarms, and pool alarms can add extra layers of security. Additionally, keep any furniture or equipment away from the fence to prevent kids from climbing over.Use Appropriate Floatation DevicesChildren who are not yet strong swimmers should wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket when as they are not designed for safety. A proper life jacket helps keep your child’s head above water and provides support if they become tired or accidentally fall into the pool. Establish Clear Pool RulesSetting and enforcing safety rules is essential for maintaining a safe pool environment. Teach your children that running around the pool, pushing others, or diving in shallow areas is dangerous. Make sure they know never to swim without an adult present, and discourage rough play in or around the water. Consistent enforcement of these rules helps children understand the importance of pool safety. Patrick Rea Aquatic Coordinator

As the building block of the body, protein’s amino acids help repair and rebuild muscles after workouts, promoting recovery and growth. Without adequate protein, your progress may stall, and the risk of injury can increase. Why Protein is Key in Fitness 1. Muscle Repair & Growth: Protein is vital for repairing and growing muscles after resistance training. Without enough protein, muscle growth is limited, no matter how much you train.2. Fat Loss & Muscle Preservation: During weight loss, protein preserves muscle and ensures fat loss. It also helps you feel fuller, making it easier to stick to your diet.3. Performance & Endurance: Protein aids recovery after intense workouts, enhancing performance and endurance. It also supports immune function, which can be weakened by strenuous activity. How Much Protein Do You Need? The amount of protein you need depends on your general guideline is: • For muscle building, consume 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight (e.g., 120–165g for a 165-pound person). • For fat loss, maintain a high protein intake (0.8 to 1.1g per pound) to preserve muscle. • pound to support recovery and energy. Animal-Based Proteins: • Chicken breast: A lean source of protein that’s versatile in many dishes. • Turkey: Lower in fat than red meat but high in protein.• Fish: Salmon, tuna, and cod not only provide protein but are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. • Eggs: A complete protein that contains all nine essential amino acids. • Lean beef: Great for building muscle due to its protein and iron content. Plant-Based Proteins: • • Quinoa: A complete plant-based protein that works well in salads, sides, and main dishes. • Tofu and tempeh: Both are soy-based and high in protein, ideal for stir-fries or grilling. • Peas and pea protein: Rich in protein and often found in protein powders. For dairy free diets, options like plant-based protein powders, lean meats, and legumes will ensure you still get plenty of quality protein.

His presence was nothing short of inspiring, making karate engaging and enjoyable. Despite the language barrier, Sensei Furuhashi masterfully bridged the gap between Japanese and English through movement and expression, demonstrating how martial arts could exceed words. His lifelong dedication to karate, honed through years of global experience, shone through in every lesson. We learned what it was like to train in a traditional Japanese dojo and experienced the intensity of world-class instruction. Sensei Furuhashi extended an open invitation to his dojo in Japan for anyone eager to pursue karate, and the opportunity to train at the highest level. We were reminded of how fortunate we were when stepping into the dojo with Sensei Peter and his associates. Regardless of age or skill level, karate challenged each of us in unique and personal ways. THE VIEW | WINTER 202436SKATINGWinter Paradise Winter in Vancouver is so special... here at the Club, we celebrate so many Winter sports and experiences. The lifetime strength of being able to perform when it counts is priceless! Teamwork & DreamworkNo ‘Show’ comes together without a team of people. In a sport that’s typically so focused on the individual, the opportunity to create a show gives the participants the value of building something together. The abilities to communicate, to share, and to count on one another are all key. The dreamwork part comes in when show day hits. Individuals come together to create magic they could never do alone. Audience ExperienceSkating is for sharing. It’s a performance sport. Just like fashion, it isn’t meant to stay on the shelf and never be worn. It’s very important to bring others along with the beauty, creativity, and fun of skating. The audience gets to pause from their problems, lift out of their lives, and witness something being hits everyone in the heart. Coach CollaborationOne of the best parts of performances is the chance for colleagues to collaborate. Skating can be overly competitive, and coaches often feel protective of their territory and athletes. Real collaboration is rare, but at our Club, it’s truly valued. The Show is a perfect opportunity to come together and create something epic Enjoyment for allFamilies, friends, & even fans all love a skating show. It’s that idea of ‘Winter Paradise’ and the fantasy of skating that delights people no matter how much they know (or don’t) about skating.... and you’re invited!! Jadene Shannon Head of Skating

The ball may strike the side or back walls at any time, as long as it hits below the out line. A ball that lands on the out line, or the line along the top of the tin, is considered to be out. THE VIEW | WINTER 202440The Hollyburn High-Performance (HP) tennis program is focused on delivering a holistic program that develops high-valued, resilient court in tennis and life. Our commitment to developing and maintaining a strong team culture is at the program’s core. Tennis can be a lonely sport, and we work extremely hard to provide players and parents of the program with the opportunity to feel a part of something bigger than themselves. This team culture can be felt through opportunities like representing Team Hollyburn at the U10 and U12 Western Canada Team Championships. We travelled to the world junior ranking tournaments on the ITF Tour and to Seattle to learn about and experience NCAA college tennis. We watched and met the players on the University of Washington tennis team. The team culture is also evident at Tennis BC tournaments across the province. The HP program is well-represented by our players, and the Team Hollyburn culture shines through players, parents, and coaches wearing the now-famous blue Team Hollyburn sweatshirt. The program’s coaches fully support our players and parents at the tournaments. They ensure that players assist parents if needed, and help the players and coaches gain valuable information and learn lessons to aid their continued development. The team culture does not stop with the players and the tournaments. The Club has graciously launched the Long-Term Support Program for Parents (LSPP) for HP parents. This program allows parents to meet weekly with our mental performance coach, Dr. Saul Shrom, to discuss their child’s development and understand how they can best support their children in their tennis journeys. LSPP is an invaluable resource that ensures parents are reassured and individual sport like tennis. The program has been privileged to host visits from professional players like Rebecca Marino, Stacey Fung, Brayden Schnur, and Sasha Vagramov, who have dropped into HP training sessions to inspire guidance, and sharing their perspectives on what it takes to reach the highest level of the sport. In recent months, we have had players win provincial championships, qualify for indoor and outdoor Canadian National Championships, and earn NCAA college tennis scholarships. Additionally, we have witnessed growth in our program, with more players joining the HP program and many players committing to training both before and after school. Finally, we are proud to have adult Members hit in with HP junior programs and juniors hit in with adult programs and leagues.
