The BEK Beacon is a bimonthly newsletter published by BEK Communications, © 2024. It is distributed without charge to all customers.BEK COMMUNICATIONS COOPERATIVEwas founded in 1952 as a local telecommunications cooperative serving Burleigh, Emmons and Kidder Counties. Since then, we’ve invested in state-of-the-art infrastructure, developed new products and services, and expanded to also serve Morton, Oliver, McLean, Logan, McIntosh, Barnes, Griggs, Cass, and Steele counties. BEK has changed quite a bit in 72 years, but we’re still a small-town cooperative at heart. This institution is an equal opportunity employer.BEK COMMUNICATIONS COOPERATIVE 888-475-2361P.O. That’s why we’ve invested in Fiber-to-the-Home internet technology. While 5G Internet services are making headlines, we believe it’s essential for our members to understand why fiber remains the gold standard in internet service.A Protected ConnectionFiber is the backbone of our internet services because of its durability. Fiber-optic cables are protected from the environment, meaning your connection is not aected by the challenges that can impact 5G. 5G signals are susceptible to blockages from buildings, walls, and vegetation, and they can be significantly aected by weather conditions like rain, snow, and ice. In contrast, our fiber network is securely buried underground, shielded from these environmental factors, which helps ensure your connection remains dependable, no matter the weather.Speed and StabilityFiber delivers the fastest speeds to your home. In fact, even 5G towers rely on fiber to function because fiber’s reliability and speed are unparalleled. 5G connections are shared among users, which can lead to congestion and slower speeds during peak usage times. With fiber, you have a dedicated connection directly to the world, giving you consistent speeds, day and night.Long-Term Investment in Your Home’s ValueChoosing fiber isn’t just about what’s best for today; it’s an investment in the future. Fiber-optic internet can add value to your home, as buyers recognize the importance of a dependable and high-speed connection. Unlike 5G, which often requires external antennas and can detract from the appearance of your home, fiber remains out of sight and out of mind, while delivering unmatched performance.Future-Proof TechnologyAnother critical advantage of fiber is its ability to handle future growth. 5G spectrum is limited, and as more people connect to 5G, congestion becomes inevitable. In contrast, fiber networks are built to accommodate growing demand without degrading service. This means you can continue to enjoy seamless Message from the CEOWhy Fiber is the Gold Standard for Your Internet ConnectionDERRICKBULAWA...our fiber network is securely buried underground, shielded from these environmental factors, which helps ensure your connection remains dependable, no matter the weather.

That’s why our fiber network is rigorously performance-tested every quarter, with the results submitted to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This ensures that our network meets or exceeds quality standards. Unlike 5G networks, which have no such testing obligations, our commitment to delivering the best service to you never waivers. While 5G has its place, it simply cannot compete with the quality, reliability, and long-term benefits of a fiber connection. At BEK Communications, we are committed to serving our members with the best technology available, and that’s why we’ve chosen fiber.
