This year, as we mark the 10th anniversary of that milestone, we envisioned an even grander celebration. In honor of Maa Durga, also known as Dashabhuja, Sampriti has organized 10 impactful activities throughout 2024, each representing one of the goddess’s attributes. These initiatives symbolize our dedication to improving the community around us, just as Maa Durga’s 10 weapons stand for her strength to protect and uplift.

This year, we proudly celebrate the 10th anniversary of Sampriti’s Sarbojanin Durga Puja, a decade-long journey that has brought us together through faith, culture, and an unbreakable sense of community. Looking back to 2015, Sampriti’s first Durga Puja was a dream brought to life by a small group of enthusiastic families, all sharing a common desire—to offer our community a space to connect, celebrate, and preserve our rich heritage. That first event was free for all attendees, a gift to everyone who joined, filled with the promise of something more significant to come. Little did we know that this humble beginning would evolve into the grand celebration we now anticipate in 2024. The 10th anniversary of our Durga Puja is not just a milestone; it is a tribute to the unwavering dedication of our community members. Over the years, we have seen Sampriti blossom into a hub of cultural and charitable activities, organizing year-round events that have touched lives in many meaningful ways. From the heartwarming Saraswati Puja celebrations, where children and adults alike showcased their artistic talents, to the Adopt-a-Highway initiative, where Sampriti volunteers beautify our local roads, our commitment to fostering community spirit has only strengthened. This year, the celebration takes on special significance. For the first time, we will extend our Durga Puja to three full days, from October 11th to 13th, 2024, at the New Kingstown Fire Hall. The extended event includes a highly anticipated performance by Deep Chatterjee, a renowned singer whose soulful folk and Bollywood renditions have graced major Durga Puja stages along the East Coast. His music will undoubtedly be the highlight of our Friday evening celebrations, setting the tone for a weekend filled with joy and togetherness. In addition to the spiritual and cultural aspects of Durga Puja, this year also marks the 9th volume of Srijan, a multi-lingual literary magazine. Srijan will feature an array of articles, poems, stories, and artwork from our very own community members. It is more than just a publication—it is a keepsake that will allow us to reflect on our shared journey and serve as a evidence to the creativity and talent within our community. Behind the scenes, the preparation for this year’s Durga Puja has been no small feat. Organizing a three-day event, especially one of this scale, requires immense planning and resources. While our vision for this milestone year was grand, we faced financial challenges in realizing it. After careful thought, Sampriti's Executive Committee has introduced a small contribution from attendees, adjusted for inflation and the additional day of festivities. This contribution will ensure that we can offer not only the best possible experience but also cover the significant costs of hosting such a large event, which includes meals, cultural programs, and puja logistics. Sampriti’s story is one of resilience, creativity, and the unwavering support of its members. From our early days of hosting Saraswati Puja to honoring high school seniors pursuing the arts with scholarships, to our Food and Cultural Expo that brought nearly 700 people together in June, every event has been a stepping stone toward this monumental year. Our participation in the India Day Fair with a lively parade and a Bengali sweet stall, and the unforgettable Tributes to Hemant Kumar by Sagnik Sen, show the diversity and richness of what we have achieved together. This October, as we come together for the 10th Annual Durga Puja, let us celebrate not only the divine presence of Ma Durga but also the strength of the bonds we have built over the past decade. Each offering, each cultural performance, each moment of shared joy is a testament to our unity, our passion, and our shared heritage. As we look ahead, we carry forward the lessons of the past 10 years—lessons of community service, cultural preservation, and, most importantly, the belief that together we can achieve the extraordinary. We invite each and every one of you to be part of this remarkable milestone, to make this Puja celebration unforgettable, and to help pave the way for the next decade of Sampriti’s journey.

Does she get remunerated? Why are the women so crazy to be the mothers? Are they not aware of the ordeal of motherhood? Why does a man choose the job of a soldier? Is he not aware that he may be killed at any moment? Is compensation of any amount enough for a life? Why out of two brothers one is ambitious, hard working, runs after money and fame and the other one is easy going, happy with what he has? Why is a village folk-singer so indifferent to his way of life? He enjoys by composing melodious songs, singing and entertaining passers by without caring for the money he gets as donation from some of them. Answer to all these questions is very simple Each man or woman has his or her own way of getting satisfied. This is the inherent property of the individual, called SWADHAR-MA. Animals, birds and insects are guided by their swadharma such that, together they contribute to the serenity of nature. Similarly variety in swadharma. of individual human beings produces men of various occupations—carpenters, sweepers, gardeners, farmers, teachers, doctors, pleaders, barbers etc. such that, to-gether they contribute to the equilibrium of the social structure. What is the secret behind this mechanism? The secret is divulged by Lord Krishna in Srimadbhagabatgita- “  ।  ।। “Oh Arjuna, God, sitting on the soul of each living be-ing, assigns task through his inscrutable power of Ma-ya, builds up an impulse in him to behave obediently like a spring operated doll.” Sometimes people holding high position in the society looks down upon those having inherent shortcomings. This is called ego, a foolish pride. The fool does not know that we are all characters of a drama, directed by the Lord. Behind each character, lies the same divine soul, faithfully obeying the role, assigned by the director. Who knows tomorrow the director may choose to reverse the roles. Do we not know that, in a real life drama people playing the role of a dreadful killer and a foolish victim are both great actors? Just as the ecological balance is maintained by a variety of plants and animals, so also the balance of human society is maintained by a variety in nature and tastes of man so that the society remains enriched by people willing to provide services of all types. Whenever an activity is born out of the noble command of the soul and meant for service to self or any other living being, it is called swadharma. If the authority of choosing a job would have been left to the individuals, no body would have chosen the job of a soldier, no body would have gone to the high sea, endangering his life. Too many people would have rushed for a few jobs and there would have been tremendous shortage of numerous service providers there by throwing the society into chaos. WHY DOES THE CHOICE OF JOB VARIES SO WIDELY Someone is bent upon becoming a pilot, someone as-pires to be an astronomer, someone tries to be a musician. These choices are inherent in a man and are meant for fulfilling the task for which he is born. God, the supreme commander of the universe, sends the soldiers duly armed with right attitude for the right job. None can change the attitude by counselling or training. This is how the choice of the individual is controlled by the almighty. That is why God says in Srimadbhagabatgita,— “   । ।। “The entire universe originates from me. It is I who allocate task to everyone. These are named as “satta, Roja, Toma”. Out of these three whichever is predominant in a man, mesmerizes him so much so that he feels as if it is his own choice, but the fool takes pride as if he is the decision maker. “   ।  ।। Blessed are those in whom ‘ satta’ Guna plays a predominant role, because (1) They can clearly understand what is virtue and what is vice, what task is avoidable and what is unavoidable, what is freedom and what is bondage , what is fearlessness and what is to be afraid of—such judg-mental power is called SATTICKI buddhi “। ।। (2) They are free from all expectations, full of compassion, free from ego with extremely high level of tolerance. They are enthusiastic but indifferent to success or failure. Such performers are known as sattick karta “  :।  :    ।। 26/18” Restless are those in whom ‘Roja’ Guna plays a predominant role. (1) Driven by Rajasic intellect, they fail to recognize what is just and what is unjust, what is obligatory and what is not so important. “     ।   :   ।।”31/18 (2)Ego overpowers their wisdom. Expectation at each step makes them restless. Such acts are known as Rajos karma. “  । ।। Unfortunate are those in whom Tamas destabilizes the mental status. (1) Tamas intellect makes him view everything opposite to what it is, untruth as truth , virtue as vice right as wrong “  ।  ।। (2) Tamas intellect makes a man get involved in emo-tion-driven activities, called Tamas Karma. His approach is whimsical. Takes abrupt steps without ascer-taining available resources, far reaching consequences, loss of life, loss of property “।  ।। Man has no other option but to faithfully obey the command of the GUNA in him, and to pretend as if it is his own choice. Every individual has been provided with Guna that creates the right attitude for performing the task for which he is born. God smiles when we superimpose our ambition on our chil-dren and expect them to choose a job of our choice. Situation sometimes compels a man to choose a job, not befitting to his nature, but this nature finally overpowers emotion, (related to the situation) and reverts to the job of his choice. That is why, when Arjuna, the unconquerable hero of Mahabharata, laid down his arms in the battlefield of Kurukshetra out of emotion and decided not to fight, The Lord said, “ Arjuna, You will have no other option but to pay heed to your own self, brush aside the emotion, and fight the battle. “ ।  ।। Is it therefore the destiny of man to helplessly toss like a tiny boat in a stormy sea? Is it not possible to rescue the man from the adverse effects of Rojo and Tomo Gunas? God advises, ”Have faith in you. I am in your heart. Bless-ings are showered on a man, who is devoted to his own task, irrespective of whether it is good, bad or indifferent.” “  । ‘“Your loyalty should be undivided, beyond all doubts” “  ।  । PRINCIPLES OF A HEALTHY WORK PRACTICE (1) “   ।  ।। “Keep yourself engaged relentlessly in a job. It is better to do any work whatsoever rather than to remain idle. They are God in disguise. Working for any other purpose is the cause of our bondage. (3) “ ।    । You have full right to work but never to the consequences. You should neither work for achieving narrow goals nor abandon the job on any ground what-soever. (4) “  ।  ।। In whatever job you are engaged in a natural way or in whatever job you are comfortable , it is your swadharma. You should never abandon it on any ground whatsoever. (5) “ ।  ।। He who quits a job on the ground of physical hardship, never gains in the long run. Abandoning a job on such ground is never advisable. (6) “ ।  ।। A job in which you are otherwise comfortable, should never be abandoned on emotional ground. As you can-not think of fire without smoke so also there cannot be any work without shortcomings. CAREER —SELECTION Money, fame, glamour—none of them makes a man happy in the long run. It is only the fulfilment of the task for which he is born that makes him happy. In or-der to find out your favorite job, “Look at the animal choose jobs suitable to their own nature. It is therefore logical to choose a job, which you will enjoy,” “  ।  ।। You should always go for a job of your choice in spite of its drawbacks in preference to a strange job where you may have to work hard. Man never repents by choosing a job befitting to his own nature “  ।   ।। Even if the traditional family business suffers from mi-nor deficiencies still it is better than a strange job, which may not suit your temperament in spite of hard labor. It is better to die while performing duties of choice rather than to toil hard for a strange job. Does a soldier ever repent for choosing his profession knowing fully well that he may be killed at any moment . “ ।   ।। In brief, “Your career should never be a burden on you. On the contrary it should be a source of pleasure.” THREATS AND REMEDIES (1) Passion, anger and temptation often stand as the real threat to the smooth passage of a career. They are like wide open doors to hell. They are the real causes for the ruination of a man. Remember, the relevant document or the rules, already in vogue are to be considered as authentic. “।    ।। (4) Non compliance with the provisions of the relevant rules as stated above might be counter productive and stand as a real threat. He who works with utter disre-gard for the established provisions and works as per his own whims can neither succeed nor be happy. “ । ।। CONCLUSION The intense desire arising out of the impulse, felt at the heart of an individual for a particular type of work is nothing but God’s command and should be pursued religiously. Because devotion to one’s own professional duties without passion, temptation, or anger is devotion to God. “” । Secrets of Variety of Occupations ... "I shout over the deafening noise as the crowd screams for a red card. It’s funny how one moment can make you remember a part of your life clearly. It had pain in it’s cruelest form, happiness in it’s most jubilant form. This is what hap-pened at that day that single handedly changed the course of my life. I was dribbling down the center of the field, sweat pouring down my face and drenching my jersey, as I dribbled every defender that tried to steal the ball. Okay, I thought, this is a routine every game. But this time was different. A defender, probably mad for getting beat. sprinted and slide-tackled my right leg. As soon as his foot made contact with mine, a searing pain shot up my leg like a snake. I fell to the ground like a ragdoll and howled in pain. The ref approached the scene and gave the player a straight red card. Everyone watched, breathless as my parents carried me away. ”Ooh, that looks bad, let’s take him to the hospital. When we got to the hospital, the doctor told me what I feared ,” I’m sorry Liam, but you broke your ankle and you will not be able to play soccer for the rest of your next 5 weeks.” “What, you can’t just do that.!!”I yelled “It’s this or never play soccer again your entire life.” the doctor explained calmly “Okay, I’ll not play soccer for 5 weeks,” I said, trying hard not to sound surly. Mom comforts me,” It’s okay, you’ll be able to play after 5 weeks.” “I know that, but I won’t be as good as I used to be,” I whined The doctor interjected and said,” We have to start the operation.”When they started it, I thought it would nev-er end, but finally, when I woke up, there was a heavy cast on my right leg. I screamed because it felt like the muscles were trying to break out of the cast. My mouth and my body felt groggy after the taste of the anesthe-sia they used to put me to sleep. I cried myself to sleep that night because of the pain. I wake up to the rousing sound of my teammates in my room. When they see the first sight of movement from me, they all crowd me and ask” When can you play? How do you feel? Are you okay?” Then one voice rises out of the din and says,” Give him some space to wake up.”I smile, because I know who this is, my friend, Ben, who plays with me at left forward. ”Hiya, friend how’s your leg, and when can you play again?. because we need to for our team. ”Then a booming voice rolls over us like thunder,” Come on, kids time for practice. ”Ben says,” Well, I have to go but see you after practice and get better soon, buddy.” “I will, buddy. And I’ll make that team rue the day they face me when I get back.” “That’s the spirit!” Ben claps my shoulder,” Well, see you later!” He exits jogging out of my room. I sat daydreaming, when a voice jarred me out of my trance,” Liam, someone is here to meet you. ”I woke up unsteadily, unsure of how to walk with a cast unbalancing my weight. ”Come on I’ll help you get the door. My father helps me get the door. When I opened the door I gasped in surprise. It was my aunt Molly. She never came to visit us because she was too busy with work. “Hello, how is my nephew doing with his broken an-kle?.” she said sweetly. “Uh, I’m doing fine.” I stammer out “Well, I just came to check on you to see if you were alright. Bye,” she says while walking away, her voice fading as she gets into her red Maserati sports car. “Bye,” I say as I close the door. I go to my room, and take a nap, with the pain fading away as I enter the world of dreams. I wake up to the sound of my mom calling me for dinner. ”Honey, it’s dinnertime.” “Okay, I’m coming,” I reply As soon as I step downstairs into my living room, everybody greets me with a big smile on their face. When I go to my parents, they are holding a big blue box in their hands. “What’s this? "I ask. “It’s a present for you. The next day I woke up and played my new foosball table in our dark basement. I was loving this table when a person rang my doorbell. It was the doctor. He said,” I will let Liam pick a design for his cast. Oh, I thought that would look cool. “Liam, come upstairs.” my mom hollered. “Okay, I’m coming. "I hollered back. As soon as I came upstairs the doctor said,” Liam, this is a time of celebration, you have 1 week left before your cast can come off.” “Really!!”I felt the excitement build in my chest, waiting to pop like a balloon. “Yes,” the doctor said. After I picked out my cast and the doctor left, My dad said,” If your cast is coming off in 7 days, we should be prepared for your next season. After a minor shopping spree, we were ready for my next season. When I first stepped on the field a week later, I felt better than I felt ever before. But my shots weren't shooting, my dribbles weren't dribbling, my sprints weren't sprinting, and my passes weren't passing. I heard my friends saying that I got lucky having so much speed and I wasn’t any good for my team. And Ben was saying,” I agree with y’all” I felt tears seeping into my eyes, here my best friend was talking trash about me. I vowed there and then that I would make him take those words back. I ran straight to my room and cried myself to sleep. The next morning I woke up in my cold room with a fiery determination burning in my heart. I ran to the gym in my basement and began running on the full-speed treadmill and lifting weights as the thoughts of my buddy talking bad about me. This has pushed me to go even faster on my weights. The next morning I came to the training ground refreshed and energized “Well, look who it is, our striker who is abso-lutely trash,,”says Johnny, who is my arch nem-esis, he plays center back and always has been jealous of me.,”Coach says I could play striker. How do you feel about that, huh.” “I’ll change Coach’s mind before he even lets you” I retorted Johnny said nothing and walked away laughing with his buddies. The next morning I woke up even earlier and trained even harder. I arrived at the training pitch and saw improvement in my shots. I used this as a reason to train even harder the next day. Our coach called us for a meeting at practice, he said. “We are playing a Division 1 team and if we win we get promoted to Division 1, so you better play harder than ever before. "He locked eyes with me and said,” Liam, I am playing you as a striker so we have a chance to win. So play your best.” I took this as a challenge. I trained as hard as I could until the day of the match. That day I took a break. I wanted to be ready. The match started boring until the opponent made a breakaway and scored. They held that position and blocked every shot we had. Halftime came. The second half was the same as the first one until a breakthrough was made by our left wing . A de-fender got careless and stepped out of the line. I yelled,” Cross!!”Our left wing messed up the cross and gave it a little behind the wall but still in my reach. Thoughts race through my mind like a film, my promise, my training, my family, my injury. I leaped behind me, hit the ball and fell with a jarring Thud! I heard the Swish of the ball sailing into the net. I leaped up and celebrated my victory over my injury. I hurt my back but everyone was too happy I didn’t care. After the match, I told Ben I completed my promise. He had a perplexed look on his face. I said,” Remember when I said I would make that team rue the day they played us.” “Yeah,” he said. “Well I think that’s what happened” We both silently did our secret handshake and went our ways. The mo-ment I woke up today morning, I saw that my room was fully decorated. There were pink, white and purple balloons above my bed and there were con-fetti everywhere! There was a sign that said ‘Happy 10th birthday, SOPHIE!’. I couldn’t believe that it has been 10 years since I was born! I rushed down-stairs and found my parents waiting for me to give me a big hug. So, I rushed and gave them a tight hug and said “Thank you so much! I love how my room looks!”. My parents told me that they also planned a pool party and invited all my friends! This day couldn’t get any better! I had a great time with my friends and since I love swimming a lot, I was in the pool almost for 2 hours! After a while, it was finally time to cut the cake! The cake was pink and it had golden edges and edible white and pink flowers on it and there was a cake topper that said ‘Happy Birthday!’, there were also 10 pink and white candles on the cake because I turned 10! The cake was delicious, we had some snacks with it like chips, donuts and candies. I had a great time!!! I had Mac n’ cheese for dinner because it is my favorite food! It was al-most 9:00pm and it was time to go to bed. I looked at myself in the mirror and thought that time flies so fast! 10 years ago, I came into this amazing, beauti-ful world. My parents tucked me in my bed and kissed me goodnight. I fell asleep in the thought of how it felt when I was first born. Was I happy? Or nervous? Or frustrated? Suddenly, there was a burst of light coming through my window, I thought it was the sun but when I looked at the clock on the wall it said it was 3:00 am! I looked out the window and saw a big, black train! I wondered why there was a train in front of our house, and how it was moving because we did not have train tracks in our front yard! But when I looked down, I saw it was floating! It didn’t need any train tracks to move. I was very curious where it would go to and why it stopped at our house. I noticed that there was a tsign which said 10th year journey. I had so many questions, and the biggest one was “What does that mean?”. I really wanted to hop on but I couldn’t just leave the house like that! So, I took my phone and shoved it in my pocket because I could call someone for help when I was in trouble. My hands were trembling and my legs were shaking. I took a glance at the train once more and noticed that there wasn’t an engineman! It was a magi-cal train! All of a sudden, I didn’t feel nervous anymore, I felt warm and comfy inside because it was magical and beautiful, and because of magic, the train was transforming colors! And after a minute or two, the train transformed from a black train to a whole rainbow-colored train! So, I slowly opened the door and creeped downstairs so I don’t wake my parents up. Then I opened the main door and there it was, the prettiest train I’ve ever seen! I went closer to it and the train door opened, I hopped on and they closed the door. There was a voice of a lady who said “Don’t worry Sophie, this is a ride through your past, you will see everything in the past like your old self, friends and moments, this ride will end once it reaches the last station when you first opened your eyes.” I thought that I would see how I felt when I was born! I was so nervous and excited! Few minutes later, we stopped at one station and the sign said “Sophie’s 9th birthday”. Then came my 8th birthday, then 7th, after that was 6th and it went on and on till at one station, I saw me and my old best friend playing together when we both were 5. I moved away from here which made me sad for so many years, the thought of her makes me sad till this day. But seeing us so happy together put a grin on my face. Her light, brown hair was shining in the sun. She had a dress on which had many daisies on it. Her black eyes shining with joy and happiness. I saw that my friendship bracelet my best friend gave me fell out of my young self’s pocket, I remembered that’s the day I lost my friendship bracelet, so I quickly hopped of the train, ran out, and picked the bracelet up. I gently put it in my pocket. After minutes past, I saw the last station, me as a baby. I looked so adorable, my eyes were squinting and I was looking all around the place, then, I started crying. The world was too bright and cold for me when I first came out of my mom’s tummy. I saw the door close and the same lady’s voice appeared again and she said “Great job Sophie, the ride is now finished, but, as you are growing up, the longer the train ride be-comes!”. Suddenly, I heard someone’s voice calling my name, it was a familiar voice, it was my mom waking me up! “This was all a dream after all?” I thought to myself. But I enjoyed that ride so much that it felt like it was all happening in real life! But the thing is, it was real! Because when I turned to my side, I saw the friendship bracelet on the bed that I lost many years ago and which I put in my pocket on the train ride!!! Sharodiya Annual Magazine Vol 9, 2024  Sampriti—Cultural Society of Central Pennsylvania सृजन Srijan Jagadish Chandra Bose, a polymath, was the first Indi-an scientist to examine plats scientifically. He was born on November 30, 1858, Mymensingh Bengal, India (Now in Bangladesh). Jagadish Chandra Bose was a botanist, scientist, physicist, biologist, and a science fiction writer. Young Jagadish studied in a Bengali school since his father, a Deputy Magistrate under the British, wanted to strengthen his roots so he would not forget Bengali cul-ture. His first friends played an enormous influence in his life since they were the sons of farmers, fishermen, and tradesmen; and had taught him some life skills that made him love nature. Along with this, he was also bul-lied when he was younger but did not let his bullies get to him and moved forward to become who he became to be. After schooling in a Bengali Middle school, Jagadish entered St. Xavier’s college and received a Bachelor of Arts degree. This was not easy for him because of nu-merous drawbacks: discrimination, lack of access to laboratory equipment, being paid less because of his background, and he also worked without pay for three years. He still persevered and after college he wanted to know more about medicine, but unfortunately quit due to some health issues. Since Jagadish got a scholarship to the University of Cambridge, he instead did some research there with Nobel Laureate Lord Rayleigh. P a g e 13 Jagadish Chandra Bose Tanisi Biswas, Mechanicsburg, PA During the years 1894-1900, Jagadish performed pio-neering research on radio waves and grew an interest in them. He had constructed equipment for generating, transmitting, and receiving radio waves to display the waves’ properties. The properties include: reflection, total reflection, refraction, double refraction, and polari-zation. He also was the first person to use semiconductor junctions to detect radio signals in 1894 and the first person to demonstrate wireless communi-cation in 1895. After the 1900’s Jagadish pursued another interest of his, plant and animal physiology. He spent his time pio-neering and made some miraculous tools. They consist of the crystal detector, the crescograph, and the wireless communication. The crystal detector was an early version of what is now a radio receiver. It consists of a metal contact held against a piece of silicon in a particular crystalline state. Jagadish sadly retired in 1915 and returned back to India. After he returned back to India, he was a professor of physics for the Presidency College of the University of Calcutta the next 30 years of his life. Along with this, he was a good professor that engaged his students’ interests by his scientific demonstrations. Even though he discovered and did many wonderful things, he was not recognized until much later. Some other scientists like Guglielmo Marconi stole his work and did not give him any credit. Therefore Marconi re-ceived the Nobel prize for the radio instead of Jagadish. On the other hand, even a crater on the moon was named after Jagadish. He also first discovered that the plants around us have life inside of them. Unfortunately, Jagadish Chandra Bose died on November 23, 1937 from a heart attack at 78 years old. All in all, Jagadish was an amazing scientist that made many discoveries.

I got up to see what it was and I saw a lot of worker bees I’m going to go in my pupa for 7 days. See you later. Now I’m a worker honey-bee and I help the queen by taking care of the baby honeybees and other stuff. ‘‘Isabella, it’s time for work, come quick!’’ I have to work bye for now. Now since I’m done with all my work I’m going off to find some delicious nectar which will be in beau-tiful flowers. Some are red some pink and even or-ange, yellow, and blue. I chose a pretty red flower. After that I did the wiggle waggle dance. The End Of The Cycle …. On Tuesday, March 25, 2024, I went to the famous Magic Kingdom in Disney World, which is in Florida. First, when Mommy, Daddy, and I arrived, we went to the bathroom, wait, what? We needed to go! After go-ing to the bathroom, we went on a train. On the train we saw a view of Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Main Street, USA - which was our stop. When we got off the train, we headed towards Disney’s Magic Castle. In the front, there was a stage. There were people dressed up as Disney characters, who put on a grand show of song and dance! After the show, we were sud-denly very hungry! So, we got chips and started eat-ing. Then we went to Fantasyland and looked around. We also went to Tom Sawyer’s Island and went inside a cave. The cave was very scary. I scared Mommy by yelling, “Snake, Snake!” We headed back to Frontierland on a tiny boat after we got out of the cave. We were hungry again, so we ate at a restaurant. After we ate, we went to Ariel’s Secret Grotto. It was a ride that had a really long line. Inside the ride it felt like we were underwater inside the Little Mermaid story! After that, we went to the Haunted Mansion. It was like an escape room that had another ride at the bottom. It was the perfect time to use my ‘witch laughter’ and scare the other people in line, so I did! I think it was so scary that some people around really got scared! We also went to Mickey’s PhilharMagic, a 3D animat-ed show that used real props and special effects on the audience that made it feel very real! It was so good that I wanted to go again! We went to Tomorrowland from there and got on a ride called People Mover. It was so good that we went 3 times on it! We got vanilla and chocolate swirl ice cream right after that. Another ride we went on was the Laugh Floor, which was a comedy show made with jokes sent in by many kids from all over the world. We went to the famous Pirates of the Caribbean ride, Daddy said he liked it when they splashed water I us! Can you believe that? The last thing we did was go to a baseball themed restau-rant from where we were able to get a great view of the fireworks that were coming from the castle. And that is all I did in Magic Kingdom! Art conveys a message more impactful than speech, placing its viewers in the mind of the artist; it teaches empathy, understanding, and can work to empower a certain audience. A mural celebrating an important figure who has passed on, or one that speaks out about global issues: environmental, racial, etc., can have significantly more reach than an article on The New York Times. A dance spreading awareness on assault holds the ability to move an entire audience with each perfected turn, or inspire someone who is struggling to step forward, while a speech attempting the same may not have that power to connect with its listeners. Art brings people together who could have otherwise been torn apart by their differences; it gives them something to have in common, serving as its own universal language, and unifying mass amounts of culturally diverse individuals. It bonds them, curating a nurturing and supportive community where all can feel welcome. The arts also have significant benefits on a person's mental health. It gives them an expressive outlet and encourages creativity, free thinking, and connection. Art can make the most difference in helping an individual find meaning and fulfillment where they would have otherwise lived a life without something to find passion and genuine belonging in. Not only does the process of creating art benefit the wellbeing of an individual, the viewership can be just as Impactful. The intake of art can help someone who feels isolated finally feel understood. Additionally, it helps them find even more likeminded individuals. The adoration and admiration among a collective group of people can ignite everlasting relationships, connecting with one another in their shared community. P a g e 15 Visual arts are seen daily in communities through billboards, murals, sculptures, etc. Every form of art has a meaning behind it or an emotion that is trying to be expressed. The most common types of visual arts include sculpting, photography, and painting. Still, no matter what form it is, visual arts impact the community through the use of emotion and perspective. The use of emotion in art is important because it helps make the viewer relate to the art in some way, resulting in vulnerability. The use of emotions in visual art has the potential for multiple people in the community to relate to the artwork somehow. This means that commu-nity members can be brought closer together through similar experiences and feelings. Social interactions with different people in the community can help build new relationships and connections due to the emotion being expressed through the art. The use of perspective in visual art helps the viewers understand where the artist is com-ing from and helps the viewers understand the meaning behind the artist's work. Perspective forces the viewers to look at either the art, the artist, or the story being displayed differently. Perspective in visual arts allows for the representation of different stories, circumstances, and meanings artists weave into one's work. The use of perspective in visual arts impacts the community by people better understand one another. Perspective helps people in the community relate to each other which can lead to relationships forming. The use of emotion and perspective in visual arts strongly impacts the community. Emotion and perspective in visual arts unite the community through representation and similar experiences and stories. With these different things being expressed, community members can better understand and relate to one another. No matter what form of visual art is displayed, it strongly impacts the community positively and opens doors for relation-ships to be formed. Saraswati Puja – February 10th: The celebration featured enchanting group musical performances by both children and adults, with an engaging Antakshari competition that captivated everyone. This year, mesmerizing dances by participants of all ages wowed the audience. A dedicated group of Sampriti well-wishers handled the decoration, creating an eye-catching display of paintings, drawings, and photographs, engaging the entire community. 2. Adopt-a-Highway – April 7th: As members of this community, Sampriti believes in giving back. Twice a year, a dedicated group of Sampriti volunteers including School Students takes responsibility for beautifying the stretch of road between Good Hope Road and Wertzville Road: Cumberland Technology Parkway. 3. Award Ceremony at Cumberland Valley High School – May 24th: Sampriti proudly awarded two high school seniors pursuing careers in Performing and Visual Arts with $1,000 scholarships each, recognizing their talent and passion. 4. Dance Concert – June 8th: Sampriti was proud to host Pausahly Sau, an accomplished Bharat Natyam dancer, whose captivating performance left the audience spellbound. Her flawless execution of Bharat Natyam, paired with Rabindra Nritya, was a true highlight for all attendees. 5. Food and Cultural Expo – June 29th: Originally started as an alternative to Boishakhi in 2023, the 2024 expo grew even larger, drawing a huge crowd and featuring 15 vendors in an indoor/outdoor setup. The event was filled with delicious food, great vibes, and an overwhelming sense of community spirit. 6. Parade and Bengali Sweet Stall at India Day Fair – August 10th: Sampriti was honored to participate in the India Day Fair with a vibrant parade of children and adults. The highlight included a live dance performance by children on stage. Once again, Sampriti’s sweet stall, offering a variety of Bengali sweets, savory items, and unique soft drinks, drew large crowds. 7.(a) Tribute to Hemant Kumar: Hindi Songs by Sagnik Sen – August 29th: A magical evening at Penn State Auditorium as Sagnik Sen paid tribute to the legendary Hemant Kumar through nostalgic Hindi songs. His soulful voice and the beautiful backdrop made the evening feel all too short. 7. (b) Tribute to Hemant Kumar: Bengali Songs by Sagnik Sen – August 31st: An intimate gathering of true Hemant Kumar fans enjoyed a memorable evening, listening to Sagnik Sen’s heartfelt renditions of classic Bengali songs. His performance left the audience deeply moved. 8. Summer Picnic – September 14th: Sampriti is thrilled by the incredible participation from our patrons. The turnout, especially with so many children, made it an activity-packed day. It was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy nostalgic desi food and build a sense of camaraderie. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our amazing volunteers Participants: 90 9. Care for Those in Need – October 4th: Sampriti extended its care to the 100 homeless, focusing on providing food and cloth to those in need. This initiative exemplified our commitment to the community welfare. 10. 10th Year Celebration of Durga Puja – October 11th –13th: This major milestone marks Sampriti’s first three-day Durga Puja celebration. The event will feature a special performance by SaReGaMa’s renowned Deep Chatterjee, along with cultural performances by local talents. Guests can enjoy a grand feast with dinner, lunch, and bhog throughout the event. Our dedicated volunteers will handle all logistics, cooking, and decorations to welcome Ma Durga. Additionally, a special highlight of the event will be the debut of Srijan, a literary multi-lingual magazine.
