A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
In 2024, Baptist Health Foundation stepped forward in many ways- to boldly champion a New Generation of Nurses, to embrace a new partnership with Baptist Health that allows us to align our values and bring a new day in healthcare, and to grow our financial support to healthcare in our community.Baptist Health Foundation lives on the front lines of healthcare. In 2024 the Foundation identified Central Alabama’s nursing shortage as the most urgent crisis in the patient care continuum and determined that we would use our resources to double match scholarship donations to remove financial barriers for students desiring to pursue the call to Nursing. This year also brought an exciting new partner in healthcare delivery. For over 55 years, Baptist Health Foundation has worked alongside multiple partners in healthcare delivery while remaining true to our core values and beliefs. Our newest partner, Orlando Health, who has since renamed the hospital system to Baptist Health, has demonstrated their long-standing success as a not-for-profit health care system dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of the individuals and communities they serve, was a perfect marriage with Baptist Health Foundation’s commitment to furthering the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Alison Decker ScottExecutive DirectorFinally, 2024 offered Baptist Health Foundation a chance to expand not only our funds, but also our ability to delve deeper into partnerships with our Community Support Fund grantees. We continue to feel led to support the many organizations who, like us, are seeking to make quality healthcare attainable and available to all our brothers and sisters. We recognize for Baptist Health Foundation, tremendous growth happens when we remain rooted in the fundamentals of why we were founded. THANK YOU for being our partner in this ever-growing mission and ministry. BAPTIST HEALTH FOUNDATION

In October 2024, Orlando Health, a private, not-for-profit healthcare organization, purchased Tenet Healthcare’s majority ownership interest in Brookwood Baptist Health. Founded more than 100 years ago, Orlando Health has a long history of caring for its many and varied communities, and today has $12 billion of assets under management. A NEW DAY IN HEALTHCAREServing the southeastern United States and Puerto Rico, the 5,450+ bed healthcare system includes 58 hospitals and emergency departments. Over 5,000 physicians in 100+ subspecialties have privileges across the Orlando Health system. This partnership with Orlando Health incorporates the five formerly Brookwood Baptist Health hospitals.
INTRODUCINGTo honor a legacy of faith-based care in Central Alabama, the new healthcare system was named Baptist Health. Baptist Health System and the Baptist Health Foundation were founded to provide a Christian environment for clinician education and practice and in which patients could be ministered to both physically and spiritually. We look forward to a bright future continuing this ministry with our new partner and under the new Baptist Health banner.“OUR FAITH HAS ALWAYS BEEN AT THE HEART OF ALL THAT WE DO, AND WE SEE THE CONTINUATION OF THAT REFLECTED IN THIS NEW PARTNERSHIP AND OUR NEW BAPTIST HEALTH FOUNDATION LOGO. ” AMY ALLEN, CEO BAPTIST HEALTH SYSTEMBAPTIST HEALTH FOUNDATION
Baptist Health Foundation believes that true healing comes from caring for the whole person, not just their physical needs. Our Pastoral Care Team members serve in all five Baptist Health hospitals meeting with patients, families, and team members to provide spiritual care and share the ministry of God’s healing love. Trained chaplains provide regular worship opportunities in hospital chapels, provide special worship observances as requested, make rounds, and are on-call throughout the week for patients and families as needed. HELPING OTHERS FIND GOD’S HEALING LOVEThe Baptist Health Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program is nationally recognized for providing post graduate education and training to individuals who have been called to the chaplain ministry. The CPE program is dedicated to teaching and ministering to pastoral care residents and students so that they can provide spiritual support to others as chaplains.A HEALING MINISTRYBAPTIST HEALTH PASTORAL CARE TEAMSCHAPLAIN RESIDENCYThe Pastoral Care team also offers special services and programs throughout the year for Baptist Health team members in their units such as the Blessing of the Hands service and Imposition of Ashes for Ash Wednesday.

In a 2023 survey, The Alabama Board of Nursing found the state is currently short by more than 7,000 nurses, and based on current trends, the shortage will double to 14,000 in the next three years. That survey predicts 39,000 Alabama nurses are likely to retire or leave the profession by 2028. The question that must be asked is , who will fill their shoes? Who will become the new generation of nurses?MEDICAL EDUCATION The Baptist Health Foundation lives on the front lines of healthcare. With a wide view on the entire landscape, we are in a unique position to identify and address the most pressing needs across the field. In pursuit of our mission, the Foundation has identified Central Alabama’s nursing shortage as the most urgent crisis in the patient care continuum.NURSING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
$779,573 Dollars donated + $ 1,559,147 Double match provided by Baptist Health Foundation & Baptist Health System$2,338,720 Invested in new nurses who want to practice in Central Alabama by the end of 2024The Foundation believes the solution begins in nursing school. Universities and colleges across Alabama have accepted students who drop out or never start a degree program due to costs. To break down this financial barrier and inspire a New Generation of Nurses, the Baptist Health Foundation, in partnership with Baptist Health System established the New Generation of Nurses (NGN) Fund. Because the nursing shortage is the most critical challenge in Alabama Healthcare today, the Baptist Health Foundation and Baptist Health System each committed to matching donations in 2024. In just a few months the fund had already exceeded its initial goal of $1.5 million and currently has over $2 million invested in nurses in Central Alabama.BAPTIST HEALTH FOUNDATION
