2023-24 Annual ReportFor 17 years, Dallas Afterschool has championed the critical role of high-quality Out-of-School-Time programming in shaping the futures of aspiring youth and supporting working parents. Thisyear, our reach expanded to 270 programs, positively impacting 19,000 children in ourcommunity. We were deeply honored to receive national recognition for this vital cause with a$1,000,000 gift from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving Open Call. This generous contribution bothshines a spotlight on the importance of quality programming and propels our agency towardgreater programmatic growth.Yet, challenges persist. For every child enrolled in a program, three are waiting for a spot. Manyprograms face staffing shortages that limit their ability to serve children, while high turnoverrates hinder the quality of programming. Without access to reliable, high-quality programs, parents are forced to make difficult choices that affect their ability to stay in the workforce. We believe we can meet these challenges together. This report showcases the many waysDallas Afterschool has strengthened the Out-of-School-Time sector, providing essential trainingfor educators, resources for youth, and assessments for programs. As the only organizationbuilding capacity for programs on a systems level, we are committed to ensuring all childrenhave access to life-changing opportunities. We hope this report inspires you to continueinvesting in a brighter future for families across Dallas County.John HillBoard ChairMarjorie MuratCEOLETTER FROM OUR CEO & BOARD CHAIRMARJORIE MURATCEOJOHN HILLBoard Chair

2023-24 Annual Report Workforce | Page 6At Dallas Afterschool, our unique train-the-trainer model equips afterschoolprofessionals with vital skills through expert coaching, classroom training, and programquality assessments across a network of 270 afterschool and summer programs—impacting over 19,000 children. In the past year, 350 educators participated in our trainings, with each educatorattending an average of three sessions. These trainings, covering more than 40 topicslike academic interventions, youth and family engagement, CPR training, andrecognizing signs of child abuse, provide critical career development that equipeducators to close the opportunity gap for students.A milestone for us was the launch of fellowships for afterschool professionals dedicatedto continuous quality improvement. Fellows received training stipends, college tuitionsupport, and retention bonuses. When coupled with our Early Childhood and Out ofSchool Time Workforce Development Program, or ECOST, we were able to offer theseand other benefits to over 100 afterschool and early childhood educators, reducingannual turnover from as high as 70% for the sector to a mere 10% for the ECOST staffand fellows. Remarkably, four educators became first-generation college graduatesthrough this initiative. Highly trained educators such as our ECOST fellows give parents confidence that theyare leaving their children in safe, enriching environments, which in turn allows them tofinish the workday and maintain full-time employment. High quality programs not onlysupport working families but also contribute to the broader economic development ofour community.“ECOST has significantly improved my workefficiency and time management skills. The traininghas been excellent, the facilitators are outstanding, and I couldn’t ask for a more supportive team” - Keira, ECOST Fellow and Literacy TutorDRIVING PROGRAM QUALITY BYINVESTING IN THE WORKFORCE
